• MINI Cooper + Cooper S - coolant level dropping quickly 19 Dec 2010 (Forum)
  I have a mini cooper 06 which has done about 27K miles.  Last month the coolant started leaking and recently BMW found the thermostat + thermostat housing was at fault. This was replaced by BMW and the coolant level on the day was topped up to max. It has only been a week since all this and already the coolant level has dropped to minimum!

  My 2002 Focus Diesel 1.8 Tddi had a water pump fitted at 50k miles and now seems to be using a small amount of coolant again (two years and 27k miles later). Is it normal for some coolant to be used? I always thought the coolant was there for 'life' until it needed changing or you actually had a leak. I can't see a leak anywhere but the usage is only about 1 litre in the last couple of months.

  I want to refill my 2001 mondy td with fresh coolant. Would someone be kind enough to explain the procedure to me? For instance where is the engine block drain plug? Has the rad got a drainplug? And recommended make/type of coolant? Thanks in advance!

  I'm trying to disconnect a heater hose from the quick-release coolant stub located at the right rear inlet manifold corner.  The purpose is to access the engine coolant temperature sensor located beneath the coolant stub. I have tried using pliers to depress the two plastic tabs on the stub connection but to no avail.

  Hi Am looking to change coolant on recently aquired 1998 glx 1.9 dt Haynes mentions removing the cylinder block coolant drain plug when draining out old coolant It says its on the rear of cylinder block Can anybody be a bit more specific or is it pretty obvious?????

  I have a vauxhall zafira dti, i have bought the correct coolant and amount , i have all the tools to complete the job, the question i have is, do i let the engine get up to temperature with the interior heater fans on then drain and replace with coolant or do i replace the coolant when cold and flush using cold water.

  My coolant light comes on when the Air Con is operating and the engine is warm. It will then stay lit for several miles even when Air is switched off. While coolant light is on, switching the heated seats on causes the seat switch to flash.

  I was going to add some coolant to my car but when I unscrewed the coolant cap the centre piece stayed in the tank, what would be the easiest way to remove it and is the car safe to drive until I replace it.  Assistance appreciated.

  Coolant disappears although garage can find no sign of leak when pressure tested,and no sign of oil in coolant or vice versa.Cooling fan does not appear to kick in even in recent very hot weather. Suggestions please.

  I haven't taken much notice before now about this. Secondly, as far as I know the coolant has never been completely renewed since the car was new, although I have always kept the concentration of the coolant mixture correct and it has a FSH. When I look at the coolant in the reservoir I notice that it has a small amount of "debris" - would a certain amount be normal ?

  My 2004 fiesta has done 7000 miles, and when doing the routine checks i noted that the oil and coolant level were approaching min. I can understand oil levels going down on a new car since it is being run in, and hence i have topped this up. But a low coolant level concerns me slightly. Should i take the car back to ford to have the system pressure checked for leaks, or is it normal for a car to use some coolant (none of my last cars have ever had a drop in coolant level which is why i am asking).

  Yesterday again the engine would not start and shook the car when it was tried. We suspect that the coolant has found its way into a cylinder filled it over night and when it was started tried to compress the coolant in the cylinder. What damage could be expected if this was what happened? Cheers Al

  Now it's back there is white smoke, and the water pump is shot. They took it to a garage that said the head gasket had failed as the dipped the coolant and the was exhaust gas in there. There are no other symptoms of the head gasket it not running badly, not over heating while the there is coolant in it and it's not over pressuring the coolant.  The only other place the exhaust gas can mix with the coolant is the egr valve but will this give the white smoke?

  [endif]--> I had an alternator changed last week. Two days later I received a "STOP" coolant warning so I got my car recovered to the garage. The coolant was completely empty and we found that the coolant hose at the bottom of the engine was disconnected, not sure for how long. Garage filled the coolant up and run a carbon mono-oxide test on the coolant tank.

  For many years fresh coolant always seemed to be royal blue.  Recently all the coolant I have noticed - including the bulk supply my indy uses - is orange.  This forum mentions all sorts of colours - is there a standard?

  Can someone give me the correct procedure for flushing and refilling the coolant on said car? I intend to refill with long life coolant(red stuff) so want to make sure the current blue coolant is completely gone from system.....also is there a drain plug on the engine block.....or is it done through rad drain cock?

  I want to replace the coolant in my Polo (1996). The stuff that's in there at the moment is blue and the expansion tank says it is G10. I got a new bottle of coolant from my local VW agent and the stuff they gave me is pink and is labelled as G12.

  My 1998 1.4 106's coolant temperature warning light is coming on after 2 or 3 miles but there is no evidence of overheating. The coolant level is ok and when I let the car tickover for 10 mins or so the coolant warning light came on well before the cooling fans did suggesting that the car is not getting too hot.

  Help!! My VR6 Golf is leaking coolant from the engine coolant housing but the housing seems to pretty well concealed under all sorts of pipes and things. Can anyone tell me what special procedure/tools i need or can provide any help that will make thibgs a bit easier..for me to sort out (I have a new engine coolant housing and a seal but thats about it) Thanks in advance
