Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 01 1.3 car pulling to the right 6 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi, can anyone help me with this problem? My car is pulling to the right, only on acceleration. Braking and at constant speed it is fine. I took it the the garage and they said the front bushes need replacing. The car is still pulling to the right after these were replaced. Today, the back right suspesion snaped when i was driving it. -
Pictorial quiz, rust, grease and not bothered.... 12 Aug 2009 (Forum)
. ;-) Cars two and three have had the same subframe treatment - how long before car three looks like car two? (apart from the brake lines) http://www.oilrag.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/rusty2.jpg Regards (tyres degreased) -
Average speed cameras. good or bad? 11 Aug 2009 (Forum)
i have noticed a lot of motorway roadworks now have the temporary speed limits. i prefer these to the single fixed point camera as they seem to slow down the traffic for a greater distance and you don't get the person stamping on their brakes because they have seen a 'gatso'. what i want to ask is are they a legal limit? i'm repeatedly overtaken by people doing atleast 10 mph more than my callibrated spedo shows. do you know anyone who has got a ticket from an average speed camera? -
Mazda 626 (2000 - 2002) - 00 2.0 How does my handbrake work??? 11 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I can see the usual cable pulls a short lever in an arc. Does this then operate a cam onto a reversed hydraulic piston which pushes the brake fluid trapped by a valve and forces the slave piston out? Or is there a physical metal link between the two? It has the wind-in piston return if that is relevant. -
B/Hol quiz - `Virtual motoring tour` 25 May 2009 (Forum)
A descriptive motoring tour then. Anyone who names it outright steps on a snake and goes to grease Rattles brake pipes. As that would ruin the `virtual motoring tour` http://www.oilrag.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/sglass.jpg Pic up for a week or so.. regards -

Handbrakes 15 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I'm having a discussion at the moment, I'll be honest it's one of my pet hates people sat for long periods, say in standing traffic on a motorway with brake lights on. The general concensus seems to be, it's ok why worry about it? I have on occasions thought, after say 10 mins, of this to tap on the window and say 'You do know the handbrake is free?' -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8d constant squealing noise and poor starting 25 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 52 reg 1.8 Focus TDCI 100, had number of problems including new brakes new turbo etc in last few months, however recently the engine makes a constant squealing noise. This lasts the entire journey no matter of length and is very noticeable. I don't know whether it is tied in but it very poor starting in the morning the engine turns over for a period of time before kicking in. -
Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 02 1.25 Rear Wheel Noise 1 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi, my Fiesta has recently started making a creaking type noise that seems to be coming from the rear wheels when braking. The noise only happens when stopping from low speeds (eg pulling up on the drive) or when stationary. When the handbrake is applied no noise is made. A couple of weeks previous I changed the front disks and pads. -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1998 2.0 abs unit 28 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Please help! My car ford mondeo won't pass the MOT, because the ABS anti braking light doesn't work. According to the mechanics, the cables were cut (I bought this car in May of this year), they said they tried reconnecting the cables, and then changing the light bulb, but it still doesn't work. -
Stopping at Giveways 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
We now have a culture whereby drivers are actually in such a hurry that they do not stop at giveways unless they really have to by braking at the last minute. Why? Do they always anticipate there is no traffic in the road they are turning into? This is so bad that I now have to anticipate a car always nudging out when I pass a junction. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.3 needs new clutch cylinder 15 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I have just been told the cause of a severe brake fluid leak is the clutch master cylinder. I have been quoted £100 labour plus parts and possibly a new clutch to repair. However the MOT is also due soon, my machanic reckons we should take it for the MOT and see what happens. -
Daewoo Lanos (1997 - 2002 ) - 97 1.4 clutch wear in general 27 May 2008 (Forum)
pedal travel (bite) or is it just luck taking into factors like how many miles the car has done , would 70k be about normal for a medium car ? i once saw a car program that suggested putting the car in 4th or 5th gear with the hand brake on and dropping the clutch with a bit of welly and if the engine died the clutch was ok.... sounds a bit drastic when the potential seller is watching you?.. thanks -
"Black boxes" in vehicles. 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
In the event of a crash, it freezes and stores the information at the point of impact, giving the car's speed, engine speed, the angle of the brake and accelerator pedals and what gear the car was in. As it detects impact, it shuts off the fuel tanks, helping to prevent an explosion." Full version: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml? -
Audi A8 (1994 - 2003) - 96 4.2 quatt rattling front pads/caliper carriers 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Front pads or callipers are rattling when going over badly surfaced roads. Pads are new and feel snug enough, presume callipers are old, but brakes all work OK. Is the only cure to replace the whole calliper or can I do the carriers separately? New callipers are a whopping £370 + VAT!! Thanks for any help. Year engine etc etc etc etc tc etc. -

Do these units keep ok if removed and say boxed up & placed on a shelf? I'm concerned about internal corrosion due to the nature of brake fluid Any advice would be welcome Thanks MM -

Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - '05 TDCi (130 bhp) Replacing pads - open nipple? 15 Feb 2008 (Forum)
. - Open bleed nipple, or not? Haynes manual says open bleed nipple when pushing / winding back piston in brake caliper, to avoid damaging seals elsewhere in the system (master cylinder, I think). Front and rear pad change on MkIII Mondeo in this month's Car Mechanics makes no mention of loosening of bleed nipple.
