  Then, usually, flooring it cures the problem, but lifting off and reapplying the gas again can cause a backfire. Spark plugs look OK, fuel filter recently changed, fuel pump is a bit noisy but seems fine. A light spray of WD40 over the electrics sometimes improves things. Could it just be needing a new distributor cap, or something more serious?

  once warm it starts ok - it drives as normal with good mpg - it's had injectors checked/cleaned then re programed, heater plugs checked, new starter, new sensors, tappets set, fuel tank cleaned (seems to start slightly better with more fuel in tank), dmf seems quiet.
