  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 2004 1.5dci Not starting 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I own a 54 reg Renault Clio 1.5dci with 79,000 miles on the clock and it just wont start. It's had new glow plugs, new air filter, fuel filter but still wont start. Timing has been checked, all ok. It was stiff starting, sometimes taking up to half an hour but would eventually start, but sometimes on starting it didn't have any throttle response.
  • Renault Kangoo Combi (1999 - 2004) - 01 1.9 dti smoking and loss of power 22 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The last 3 weeks I've had restricted power periodically, mainly when put under pressure, up hills or trying to pull away quickly. It's been smoking well upon starting, but smoking eases up when it's warmed up. Fuel consumption is down. It's done 128k. Then today I had complete loss of power. Drivng along the A12 at 70mph, went to overtake, and nothing. Still starts and moves with lots of black smoke. It sounds ok when idleing, but sounds like a tank when you move it.
  • Be careful if thinking about suing a trader. 16 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Buyer found a fault, garage fixed fault and also carried out a timing belt change FOC as a goodwill gesture and paid for a tank of fuel. Buyer demanded money back. Garage refused as they had fixed the fault and this is all they are required to do. Buyer sued, garage defended the action. Buyer lost and was presented with a bill for £17,000 in legal fees, buyer now bankrupt.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 2.0 hdi very very poor mpg 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The other day i had it diagnosed by an electrician with a modis first it showed ecu error he then cleared it and told me that the egr is not working shows no othr fault codes apart from a break in the glow plug circuit which is strange as it starts fine. I have had the fuel rail changed a couple of months ago as it developed a leak other than this no other parts or sensors have been changed. Any ideas?
  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - Focus 1.6 TDCi or 1.8 TDCi 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Ford Direct seem to have mostly Titanium 1.8 TDCi's and 2.0 petrols, few 1.6 diesels or petrols. I quite like the thought of the diesel due to much better fuel economy and cheaper tax. Any thoughts, experience or advice welcome. Except my local plod use them and..............
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 won't start 14 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Checked the plugs were firing, checked cambelt was still ok, checked all fuses all ok, put a gallon of petrol in as the guage was showing a quarter full (just in case fuel guage was faulty!) I've had the car for nearly 5 years and it has been regularly serviced and belts and pulleys changed. It has been running great, has 92K on the clock. Any ideas greatly appreciated!
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 2007 1.6TDi CMAX 27k miles. Buying advice please 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
With a child on the way the little Matiz just cannot cope any longer and we have short listed a CMAX to take its place. We ideally want a nearly new TDI and a 1.6 because of the good fuel economy - but they are not cheap. We have found a good deal on a 12 month old car, but its done 27k miles. I would welcome peoples views on whether I should worry about the high mileage and what things to look out for - any common faults?
  • What does one replace a Focus with? 16 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Good ride comfort and space for four adults plus luggage. 3. Sharp handling 4. Slick gearchange. 5. Good build quality 6. Reasonable fuel consumption (>30MPG) and servicing / parts costs 7. No diesels. Any advice much appreciated. TMS
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.3 Electrical buzzing noise when engine runs 14 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Anyway seperate issue sometimes when i am driving the engine makes a buzzing sound and when I turn the engine off it you can still hear it for a seconds till it fades to silent. I can't hear where it is coming from but it round the injection area. Could this be a dodgy fuel pump? Is it something I can forget about till it gets worse? Engine is running fine.

hi , we have a pegeout 307 hdi turbo 110 on the 03 plate, every now and again the unblock diesel filter light comes on , then on the dash the orange light comes on , it stays on for only a little while , we have had the fuel filters changed , the drain plug cleaned, the link to the computer reset lasted about a week but came on again last night only for about a min or 2 , we have read the book and it says it could be because of town driving and to try to build up a constent speed of 35 and above for 5 mins , have you any ideas what could be causing this thanks cabbie_mick.....
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 01 1.9 Lumpy Engine 3 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The engine is less smooth generally and when cold sitting at traffic lights there is a 'lump' every 3 seconds. The engine also sounds coarser or throatier and seems to be working harder to get up to speed. Fuel economy is worse and acceleration is less impressive. In second gear sometimes there is a really long turbo lag. The car is most problematic at low revs but mid range the car is operating as good as ever.
  • Peugeot Partner Combi (2001 - 2004) - 01 2.0 hdi rev problems 30 Oct 2008 (Forum)

  • BMW 5-Series E28 (1982 - 1987) - Am I being rose tinted or am I mad or just naive ? 18 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I've checked out the insurance for myself driver only & for someone who is in their 20's TPF&T isn't bad, nearly the same as an MG ZR. What're they like to own? What is the 520i like for fuel consumption? although I only do about 6k miles per annum, as I hardly drive during the week, I do ocasionally go on longer trips away.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2004 2.0TDCi engine noises 29 Sep 2008 (Forum)
He felt there was an internal defect and would not consider taking the engine up to max revs in case the engine suffered severe internal damage. To my ear the engine is chattering, there is a puff of blue smoke on startup but fuel and oil consumption are very good. It also runs smoothly at 70mph. Can anyone offer advice on what it might be, I assume it could range from a big end up to a loose chain. Many thanks. Peter
  • Super-minis on motorways - more of them? 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
With more people apparently opting for smaller more fuel efficient cars I wonder if we are going to begin to see more super-minis type cars - Jazzs, Micras, Yaris, the small Citroens, etc - on our motorways doing the commute? I haven't travelled on motorways for over a year so, perhaps, you guys are already seeing this?
  • Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - 2007 1.9TDI loss of engine power 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Have driven VAG turbodiesels for many yearts. This is different from normal turbolag. Use normal forecourt diesel. Problem with fuel or air intake? Have heard that Passat TDIs can have this problem. All suggestions appreciated.
