C2 for daughter's first car ? 29 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My daughter's driving has been coming along, albeit slowly (and expensively.) Although she has failed one test already, I was out with her in a dual control car the other day and even I could see that she's made a lot of progress and to most intents and purposes can actually drive now. -

Bargain big saloon advice please 24 May 2005 (Forum)
Hello all, I'm planning on selling my '92 Scirocco and getting something a bit (read: lot) more comfortable. I only drive around 5k miles a year, mostly on the motorway but with the odd jaunt to Wales, Scotland or the Lakes. My budget is only £500 to £1,000 and I want something comfortable, reliable and pleasant to drive. -
Laguna DCi 130 v Golf 105 v A3 2.0 tdi? 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I am about to get a lease car via my employer and have sort of settled on one of the above (without yet driving any of them!). They are all Euro IV compliant but which is the better car to drive and own? I am leaning toward to the 140ps A3 (in standard trim level) because of the torquey engine (I currently have an ageing 405 TD estate so anything will seem quick!). -

Mondeo TDCI Automatic ?? 12 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Any thoughts about its life expentancy? Is it smooth and also is it smooth at 50K miles? The recent FMC drive days that I've been on, have had Mondeo's by the volume both diesel and petrol but no autos. Are they trying to tell me something? The Focus CMax TDCI auto (CVT) which I did drive is really well matched and smooth at 1500 miles but at 50,000?? -
Some advice please 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
t=21225&m=213458&v=e Just a recent update and we who like some advice please. On Monday my mother was using the Proton, and whist driving it, the car cut out on her (The same fault or similar problem as the pug's 207s) the total loss of engine power - so no brakes, etc... RAC has said that the car is now unfit and unsafe to drive, so it has been towed to another Proton Dealer in Notts this time to find the fault. -

The Mobile Phone thread, volume III 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I'm a new user of this board, so apologise if this topic has already been discussed and done to death... I am seeing more and more people driving around with their phones glued to their ears. They are happily looking around, laughing and gesticulating - in fact doing everything except concentrating on driving. Yesterday I saw the guy behind me texting... -

a little smart car. 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Now i'm a petrolhead and I tried hard to like this car but what's the attraction? Owners just love 'em. Just can't see it myself. It advances the art of driving pleasure not one bit. (Mods: not an anti-car rant just at a loss to understand this vehicle) Any Smartheads out there want to comment? -
Getting on with LHD. 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
A quite rare experience for me last couple of days, had to take a LHD French registered Renault Laguna back to France that a errant punter had brought over here when she shouldn't have. Now I get along with left handed cars just fine in the past, I enjoy driving something a little different and in some ways I prefer driving on the 'wrong side'. I never have that problem of trying to change gear with the door handle or anything like that, no the only problem I seem to have is when I get in or out of the vehichle. -
bad time to buy a 3 series? 19 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hence residuals adversely affected. It's just that I test drove the 320d today, and I love the performance and drive plus the idea of 50 mpg (but does it really return that in the real world?). Don't really like the look of the imminent new A4, would never have another Merc, like Lexus but uneconomical petrol engines only, new Passat next year might be worth waiting for, Saab,Volvo,Honda etc don't appeal (car snobbery maybe, but residuals also, and not as good to drive) Reckon I can get £1500 off list on a new one; dealers seem to ask silly money for second hand ones, and whilst I'd buy second hand I wouldn't want anything more than a year old... -
Replacement for Britain's worst car! 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hi I am finally deciding to scrap my horrible Seat Marbella after it failed it's MOT. I could afford the money to get it sorted but frankly I am fed up of driving the awful thing! I am looking for a recommendation of a sub £800 car to replace it. Because I only started driving a couple of years ago I have used small cars for cheaper insurance. Now I am a bit cheaper to insure I was looking for something larger and more suitable for my hobbies like fishing and taking my racing bike out to meet friends for bike rides. -

Ford Mondeo TDDi 2.0 90ps Tuning Box 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
It is a simple plug-in tuning box that is plugged to the back of the fuel pump, where we have to unplug the connector and plug in the tuning box in between. How it works? It remaps the A/F ratio, apparently saving up mpgs on normal driving as the car will become more responsive and less gear changes, hence lower RPM. Also, it will instruct the ECU to inject more fuel during hard driving, consuming more mpgs, hence overall will be balanced out. -
Vigilantes 26 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Can't remember where it was but IIRC the guns had been issued by the police who stated they would issue cautions to speeding motorists. There was also a case of a disqualified driver who was jailed for continuing to drive. The conviction was based on the video evidence of a member of the public. Again if IIRC the member of the public was the father of the lad who was killed by the dangerous driving of the aforementioned disqualified driver. -
Civic Recall 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I compare this with the Ford response when I had a failure on the light switch of an Escort which was of a similar age ( ie just out of three year warranty). This failure resulted in me driving without any lights without realising it. I had a long fight with the Ford dealer to get a 50 % reduction on the cost of the switch ( £56 and that was 10 years ago)
