  • Audi 80 2.0E 1995 model - Fuel economy 7 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I am sure I read an article ages ago regarding a fuel economy run that it was best to drive a car at it's torque speed in top gear. On my car this is 124bhp at 3200rpm which equates to a speed of 74mph. This is clearly too fast to be fuel economical and perhaps I have confused effeciency with economy.
  • VW Bora Fuel Pump Relay 27 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The AA have plugged in their diagnostic software and there are no errors stored on the ECU. The AA man said he thinks it could be the fuel pump relay which is a multi functional relay which could explain all the other lights. Before I take in to be looked at does anyone know the whereabouts of the fuel pump relay?
  • Nissan Micra K12 '53 Plate - Fuel Economy 1 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2003 Micra (K12) and over the last 14 or 15 months the fuel economy has dropped through the floor. It has gone from doing about 420 miles to a tank down to around 300, and usually just under that. It has done 35k. I have had new front tyres, changed the air filter and had both the fuel and oil systems flushed and fitted with new filters.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0 fuel filter hoses, are they on correctly? 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
my 03 tdci 130 mondeos fuel filter pipes might be crossed, the middle outlet on the filter, with the arrow pointing out, has a hose coming from the tank, the outer outlet, with arrow pointing in, is going to the fuel rail. I had an identical mondeo with the opposite, and it drives perfectly, this one has the glow plug light flashing, and is hard to start, even when i do manage to start it, it drives well, but underpowered.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 96 1.9 Replaced Fuel Cut Off Valve... 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I think i've got air into the tank as when the engine is cold it won't start. Not sure how to remove the air from fuel system from the engine side. I know glows are good etc as the car was running without problem, just a little fuel leak from the valve before I replaced it. Fuel cut off valve was replaced because it was leaking.
  • Volvo 850 (1992 - 1996) - Volvo 850 GLE 2.5 estate real life fuel mpg? 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Just very early stages of looking at used cars, any one have experence of owning a Volvo 850 GLE 2.5 Estate with a manual gearbox circa 1995/6 vintage. Just really interested in likely fuel consumption. I live in fairly mpg friendly Norfolk which helps a little. The fuel consumption figures are likely to determine if i look at them any further. Anyone know if govt fuel figures were compiled for cars back in the mid 90's?
  • Fuel (What do you do?) 28 Mar 2008 (Forum)
But at present I have been using a Shell garage, which is about 3 miles from me as it is always about 2p cheaper for its fuel (diesel) Also every garage I drive by I am now looking at there price for there fuel. (Never bothered before) What do other back roomers do?
  • Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - Coasting and fuel consumption 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
After reading numerous posts on fuel consumption and that coasting in gear instead of letting it idle in neutral uses no fuel I was a bit sceptical espically mine being an older car. So I tried it, at 60mph in 5th briefly switched engine off (under the most safest circumstances) and it was like I had just took my foot off pedal and slowed down like the engine was on.
  • Effects of electical items on your fuel economy 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I was watching an old repeat of Top Gear the other night where Clarkson drove an A8 Diesel from Lonfon-Edinburgh and Back. He was saying that he turned the heating off to save fuel econmy, likewise he was driving on side lights in the rain rather than dipped beam. Now I know that the air con compressor will increase fuel consumption but would you really notice extra fuel being used by using your heater?
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1.8 fuel leak 28 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I boguht a 306 1.8 yesterday and went to the petrol station and fiilled it up, when i had stopped i noticed that there was a fuel leak of about 2 liters which i think may have been the overflow, the rac came out to have a look (it was free) they said that the fuel pump seal wasnt fitted correctly and not to drive it. i didnt listen and i drove it to work today well i had no option and it was fine when i stopped there was a smell of petrol in the car and i looked underneath and the bottom of the fuel tank was damp, i though it would dry out, its still damp now with a small drip this is 5 hours its been idle for now, can somone advise me
  • 03 espace auto brake/ticking fuel pump 9 May 2007 (Forum)
My 03 espace 2.0t auto(petrol) seems to have a problem with the auto handbrake,it works as it should in the handbook manually and automatically, but when i insert the card and it checks systems it comes up on the dash AUTOMATIC HANDBRAKE FAULTY, also the service light and P warning light stays on permantley. The other possible problem is what appears to be the fuel pump fixed to the underside of the fuel pump,a few minutes after the car is locked you can hear a noise, sounds like a pump, for about 2 seconds and then the fuel pump starts to tick like a clock and continues until the car is unlocked.
  • VW Transporter fuel gauge play up 14 Mar 2019 (Forum)
My Caravelle 2004 1.9TDI, there is 3/4 of fuel in the tank but the gauge needle reading on low below the red line and jerk everywhere when I over the bumps plus the low fuel warning light is stay on all the time. I took out the sender unit, the reading of Ohms when the level is on full is 50.3 half is 199.1 but the low level on the floor is reading nothing like -1 . on multimeter.
  • Any - New European wide fuel labelling 5 Oct 2018 (Forum)
French media is reporting that new "standardised" fuel labelling is coming in as from next week (12 October) - I haven't seen any reference to this in British media, but the legislation is said to be Europe-wide (not just EU states) so presumably including UK whether Brexit or not.
  • Mercedes-benz 300 sl - Fuel injection 8 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Hi all Was going to go out for a drive in the roadsters but I couldn't get her started turns out the high pressure fuel pump is knackered. (Going to sort out a replacement in the week). Was talking to a friend about the car and he was saying to replace the mechanical fuel injection with a retro fit EFI kit to make the car more reliable but I don't think I should as it will take away the originality of the car what are back roomers thoughts?

  • Vauxhall Vectra C - fuel return pipe? 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
hi, i have a vectra 2.2 sri direct. could anyone tell me if the pipe that leads from the fuel pressure regulator to the cam driven high powered pump is in fact the return pipe, as described in the haynes manual, or is it the feed to the pump? the only other pipe from the pump is a metal one which leads into the injector rail, so by deduction the so called 'return pipe' must be the fuel line into the pump surely?
