  • Ford Focus Estate - Why would you pursue a used ?? at the moment? 8 Aug 2023 (Forum)
These companies have pushed the prices beyond the logical sustainment with servicing costs. What that means is that with servicing costs your car is costing you more than what a brand new car is. But… I can’t afford a new car…. Then you will end up paying more than if you purchased new. Ouch… Yes! And don’t be a bigger loser buying a 2 year old.
  • Fiesta. Jazz. Yaris, Note, silver or grey colour - Buying a used car - 4 different models on wishli 16 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I'm considering buying a 2 - 4 year old small car and want to set up one search to locate all models for sale within a specific distance. When I bought my current car, a Toyota Yaris in 2010 I was able to locate desired cars easily in one search by ticking multiple boxes for each model and colour.
  • Worst car you’ve ever driven? 16 May 2020 (Forum)
Looking through my collection of old car mags got me thinking of the cars I’ve driven in my life and which ones were better than the reputation they had (Montego/Maestro) and which were truly awful. Here’s my wee list of cars which were in my humble opinion unforgivably awful to drive, where the manufacturer made no effort to create any driver enjoyment at all.
  • Audi A3 Sportback/Mercedes A Class - Used Car Buying Advice 4 May 2019 (Forum)
Hi All I am about to purchase my first used car after having a company car for a few years. In a nutshell I am between an Audi A3/Mercedes A Class, they are both 2/3 years old with approx 20k mileage around the 18.5/19k mark I am intending to purchase cash with top up from personal loan (apr 3.2%) as dealers offering approx 9%.
  • Car suitable for taller driver 2 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Also I am 6ft4” so most cars are ruled out due to my 36” inside leg. I have a family to look after so can’t afford anything with a high tax bracket or thirsty on fuel and needs to be no older than 5 years old. My current car is a Toyota Yaris which is limited on comfort as I drive with a small pillow for lumbar support.
  • Gearing - how it has changed over time 2 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Being a devotee of that Flickr blog that shows lots of old car tests from the 60s onwards I’m amazed by how short the gearing was on many cars prior to the mid 1980s. Modest sized hatchbacks had top gear at around 15/16mph per 1000rpm in top and even 2 litre cars and above from various makes including Mercedes and BMW were geared around 19-20 tops.
  • Peugeot 3008 - Used car fault after purchase 4 May 2018 (Forum)
However, the garage have gone from being lovely and approachable when i purchased the car to very stroppy and kinda rude. I'm certain that if i say to them "The car is less then 6 months old so i want you to fix it for free" then they'll probably tell me to **** off and have it towed back to my house.
  • Petrol, Reliable, Automatic, Family Car..... 27 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I am looking for a '66/17 Plate' car - registered before 1'st April 2017, as I want to avoid paying the £140 road tax. Budget could be up to £18,000 - so should cover most cars..... It must be suitable for a family = two adults, one teenager (but she will be 17 soon and may not be in the car that much), one 9 year old, and hopefully a baby next year.

  • SEAT Ibiza SC - EPC light post service 8 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hi, wondering if anyone can help/offer a bit of advice. Put my car in for a full service 2 days ago. The car has never given me any issues. It is 6 years old but only done 30,000miles. 1.4 petrol engine. There were a few things recommended (brake pads, new tyres), nothing mentioned about battery/engine.
  • BMW Z4 (2003 - 2009) - Car back from service - with accident damage!!!! 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Z4 was in for its annual service at local BMW main dealer. Its an 04 plate car with only 30k miles and full BMW history. I tend not to use the car too often in winter if possible, it's not the best in the snow and I'm always scared of it getting damaged. I have an old Mercedes Vito van that's up to it's purpose of general hack.
  • Does warranty influence the new car choice? 7 Jun 2009 (Forum)
On another long running thread another maker's very popular small car has been having engine problems at approx 4 years old, though usually well under the 60K miles warranty cut off. The same maker has not been particularly helpful apparently by the reports many are making.

  • Going to be doing high mileage... 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Essentially the message was that there is no market for high-mileage cars, with the consequence that not only would this purchase be more expensive than I'd hope, but that I'd be in the same position in a few months if I bought another second-hand car. (As a side issue, my car is just over 3 years old and has 45K on the clock.
  • Next Car Advice please 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
new here so hello all :) 3 years ago i got fed up of driving new cars and bought a £1200 Volvo 850 2.5-20v. It didn't quite fit the image as I run my own business and the folks working for me all had cars 10x as much but it was an awesome car, eventually I gave in to the comments about it and bought a nearly new Skoda Superb....after 3 months I realise it's been a big mistake and I want to go back to the big old exec type of car.
  • All this Insurance Fully Comp Business 16 Oct 2005 (Forum)
There's something about this which is making it really difficult for me to be cynical. I don't think it's anything to do with someone buying an old Fiesta and driving their Porsche on the third party extension. After all, there are limitations of use aren't there? I mean - look at it this way. My Dad would have to insure himself on his car then name Mum on his car.
  • Scratched Car 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
It's got metallic paint, by the way. Before anyone asks, I've decided not to take it through my insurance since my previous car was vandalised on the street! I don't have much luck with my cars, I took my old Matiz through the insurer (it was in a row of cars which got done - doors kicked in etc. so it was in a bad state) and it doubled my insurance premium - Direct Line wanted £1300 to insure me (27 at the time, clean licence) on a Daewoo Matiz - none of it my fault!
  • Which affordable diesel family car? 30 May 2003 (Forum)

  • Hyundai Tucson Diesel 2019 Plate. - DPF ISSUE 12 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Hi All I bought my 2019 Tuscon when it was 6 months old, despite doing on average 10 miles a day during the week and longer runs at the weekend and on holidays etc, it had zero issues, I broke my ankle last September, the Car  was stationary for 2 months and has been a nightmare since, essentially around 15-20 miles the dpf light comes on, and then the Engine warning light, a few months ago the Engine light went out and obviously the dpf light goes out/resets when the car is turned off, i use nothing but Esso premium fuel and have tried a lot of different dpf cleaners, a friend who's a mechanic has looked at the car and he cannot see why there's a problem, and that the dpf maybe faulty, I suspect that the 2 months the car was sat still caused a soot build up, can anyone recommend a solution please.
