Any - Cabin (pollen) air filters 10 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Air flow vastly improved, not to mention the quality of air. Just did same on 'new' car, 2009 i10. Cost £10 ebay. No tools required, took 5 minutes. Old one disgusting, black, leaves, dust etc. Air flow much much better and smells fresher. I suppose if you really wanted to you could put a few drops of scented oil on the new filter to make the car smell nice. -
VW Up! vs Kia Picanto vs Fiat 500 - Your Views? 9 May 2021 (Forum)
I’ve been checking MOT’s and some newer Fiats seem to have similar problems which is putting me off but I like the car. I just wondered if anyone could offer any opinions please? Whatever car I get will be used, I’ve been looking at max 5/6 yrs old and under 30k miles. I’m looking at doing 4/5000 miles max myself, predominantly city driving although will be on the motorway occasionally. -
Citroen C3 Picasso - Pros and cons of using oil-change pump? 18 Oct 2020 (Forum)
But, almost unbelievably, the sump plug on the C3 is actually RECESSED in to the sump bottom on these cars so not all the old oil drains out via the plug in any case! What method do garages use these days - sump plug or pump? Thanks for your thoughts. -
Vauxhall Ampera - Worth a punt ? 20 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Two specific cars have caught my eye - the Mitsubishi i-MIEV/Peugeot Ion/Citroen C-Zero and the Vauxhall Ampera/Chevrolet Volt - I'd welcome opinions on these bearing in mind they're 8 years old and out of warranty. I also considered the Renault Zoe but at this age, they all need a leased battery which puts the cost up way too high. -
Freelander 2 - Replacement for freelander 5 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Could you then? .... Sulkily went through the list... said we would try with a dealer who really wanted to sell a car.... But do they exist!. Any other models I should consider? £24000 up to one year old, diesel, manual, 2,tonne towing approx,... -
Daihatsu Skywing - I Think I Killed It. 27 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I don't normally like to go above 80, because the car is over 30 years old and the 3 cylinder engine is probably more fragile than most, but I was getting tailgated on the expressway this evening and allowed my speed to creep up around 100. Burning smells ensued (not necessarily from the car, Taiwan has a lot of burning smells) so I got off the expressway and took slower roads home. -
MOT History 27 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Whoever has given the advice on checking MOT history online (gov.uk) thank you. Learning from the forum it stuck in my brain. I was interested in a 7 year old car ( FSH but advert did not say who by). I checked on its MOT history and looking at one failure (major central exhaust, horn not working, another with advisories on tyre close to legal limit, brake pads worn and other brake problems. -
Honda CR-V - Auto window wind down 19 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I know this is not the case because I have no reason to unlock the car after I have parked it and walked away. It has happened on too many occasions to be a coincidence. How can I convince Honda it is not just a silly old duffer who doesn't know his car ! What is the purpose of this useless gimmick anyway? -
SEAT Leon - Extending a Lease Contract 18 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Does anyone on the Forum know if the advice I have been given is true or alternatively does anyone know of a company that would offer a 2 year contract on a 3 year old car. In effect purchasing it from the lease company with me continuing to use the vehicle under contract. -
Testing hand brakes 23 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Some BRs, replying to the recent thread on electronic parking brakes, said they very rarely applied the handbrake, especially with automatic gearboxes. I was brought up with the old asbestos linings, and drum and disc steels that were very reluctant to corrode when the car was left unused for a while. In the past I’ve not used my car for several months at a time without problems. -
Volvo S60 2.4 Diesel reg 2011 (low mileage) - Dashboard Message " LOW BATTERY ! " 6 Apr 2015 (Forum)
An elderly neighbour has a 4 year old Volvo S60 Diesel, due to illness the car is rarely used. I have been driving it weekly to try and keep the battery charged, however in recent weeks even after a 25 mile main road drive when I stop the car & switch off the ignition I notice the dashboard display message " LOW BATTERY !". -
Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308 automatic gearbox 11 Feb 2015 (Forum)
The problem is continuing and it is back off down to the dealer. It is annoying that a car which is six years old and we've onyl had for three years has this level of problem, particularly since there were no problems with the earlier version of the same make. Any helpful ideas? -
Flat tyres 31 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The rare times that I get punctures always seems to be in a holiday period. Lifting the car was relatively easy this time because the car was in a hollow in the driveway at home. (The effort required to lift the car when the scissor jack is fully compressed is dire). The worst thing was lifting the spare wheel into position and engaging the first bolt. -
Honda CR-V - Disconnecting a faulty alternator 6 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Just disconnect the main post terminal, just disconnect the regulator connection, or disconnect both? I don't care about the old alternator, as it's dead anyway, but I need the car to run and don't want to flatten the battery if it's shorting. -
Nissan Almera Tino - Check Engine Light - what is it...? - FIXED 27 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Old oil carbonises problems occur. I should also say that my car has gone from using 0.5l of oil per 5,000 miles to 1 litre per 3,000. Age I think - emissions are fine (sailed through its MoT in January) -
Toyota Carina E 1.8GS Petrol 1997 Manual - Intermittent Misfire 14 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The pins in the distributor cap do show signs of wear but they are all intact. The rotor arm is a little rough but intact. The car is regularly serviced and has a FSH. Fuel filter (I think) is about 10,000 miles old. I have tried a new tank of petrol from a reliable source and even some STP petrol injector cleaner but the problem persists. -
Any - Main Dealer Horror Stories 13 Aug 2013 (Forum)
This is the kind of garage that will show you the old parts they've taken off, to prove they have changed them, but in the sterile premises of the main dealer, you rarely get to talk to anyone other than a vacant receptionist, to find out what they have done to the car, and quite often they have no idea, beyond that its ready and parked over there. -
Various - Automatic Transmissions 10 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I have recently partially lost the use of my left leg. Therefore I need to purchase a smallish car with automatic transmission, preferably a diesel engined one as economy is also a consideration. I hva looked at Opel/Vauxhall Corsa. Citroen C3. Toyota Yaris. Chevy Aveo and similar cars. But looking on various forums it seems as though all references to smallcars with automatic transmissions seem extremely unreliable. -
Best reliable and economical car for £2000-3000 29 Jan 2012 (Forum)
VW Golf tdi (90 or 110 as I have heard the higher bhp PD models can be unreliable) is this a good idea or is there anything better out there the most important thing to me is reliability and economy a close second. From what I have read its best to stay away from the newer tdci, cdti, hdi etc... and stick the the old simple diesels, is this true? Also contemplating an LPG are these any and whats the best to go for? Or even petrol jap car just for the reliability although less mpg. Any help or advice would be muchly appreciated. -
BMW 3 Series - Which BMW to buy?? 11 Sep 2011 (Forum)
We really like the new shape and it's obviously a newer car but is much higher mileage. The other car was also nice but our heart is set on the new shape but my brain isn't sure this is the best one to go for. I need your advice - which one would you go for?
