  • Smart Fortwo (451) Cdi 54bhp - Wheel Alignment Caster out 4 May 2012 (Forum)
Hi Guys Had the front pads and discs replaced yesterday and it was noticed whilst the tyres were off the car that the inner edge of the tyres were thiner than the rest of the tyre. Today i took my car to a autocentre by me who have a Hunter Alignment machine and had the alignment checked. The Toe was considerable out of adjustment but the machine brought up another concern and that is Caster is more than 30 minutes between left and right.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Brake Issues 20 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi All Once again, I seek your invaluable expert advice :-) About 9 months ago I had my car serviced by Vauxhall, and they replaced the front discs and pads. Although they worked, and stopped the car fine they where never as sharp as they used to be (pedal seems ?softer?) however I just put it down to a different brand of pads, however the car stops perfectly fine.
  • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 02 2.0 misfiring on start up 6 Oct 2008 (Forum)
We've left the car with them for several days but of course it behaved perfectly. My worry is that more trouble is on the way. If it turns out to be a major component it would be covered by the purchased warranty but this runs out end of December.
  • Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Fading of Red Paintwork 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Now I know that red cars do fade, so I'm not disappointed or angry. Also, I thought this had been covered in previous posts but couldn't find anything on a search. So, our 5 year old Jazz in Monaco Red (solid colour) has slight fading of its paintwork on the front edge of the bonnet and on the roof.
  • Coolant leak - Seat Toledo TdiSE 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
My local main Seat dealer has now given up searching for leaks. They have been extremely helpful; but they think it can now only be the main cover head gasget. ( previously they replaced the water pump and a split rubber hose). It all depresses me, as it is far the best car I have ever had. I would greatly appreciate it, if somebody will tell me if they have any idea at all what causes the leak.
  • Mondeo - duff speaker connection? 17 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Yet another of those niggely little things that occasionally works/mostly doesn't on the old Mondy Mk2 - I guess it's at a comparable life stage to me! I reckon car years are like dog years i.e. seven car/dog years equals one man year. The LHS front speaker cuts in and out - mostly out - and I suspect it could be due to a poor connection behind the door panel.
  • VW Polo 1996 reg not starting 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I wonder if the problem is related to the Distributor again. I had this replaced 3 yrs ago (covered 20K miles since). The problem is that the car turns over by the starter motor, and the RPM needle reads approx 300 - 500 rpm. But the eggine does not seems to fire up. I remember I had the same symptom 3 yrs ago and I called out the RAC to disgnose.
  • Black Plugs - Vectra 2.0 16v '97 Ecotec 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)

The missfire is between 1.0 and 1.5 revs, worse on the overrun-Changed coil, idle control valve, cam and crank sensor, plugs and leads and air filter.Somebody help me please, starting to pull my hair out here!
  • Motorbikes overtaking 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I would expect if a car moving from one lane to the other hit the bike, then it would be the car driver's fault for not seeing him, but when I check my mirrors on the motorway, I usually am checking them to see the other lane, not necessary the line between the 2 lanes, if you see what I mean?
  • missed service 3 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I phoned the garage where the car was originally registered and they have no trace of a service on their computor or on the manufacturers computer. I took the car back to the (non main dealer)cardealer and they say they will change the oil and filter.
  • '95 Omega 3.0 V6 - mayo around oil fille 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The car has covered 112K and had a "full" service around 8K ago, and is due for a service in a couple of weeks. The car has always been well maintained, most of the problems in the last couple of years being well documented on this site.
  • Spanish Prangs 19 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I wondered whether the police turn a blind eye to slightly damaged vehicles (I'm sure in the UK they'd take a dim view of sharp edges and missing light covers) and then noticed that even some police cars and vans seem to have been somewhat battered. The tendency is very marked in Barcelona, but even in the other Spanish cities I've visited (Girona and Palma) there were many, many dented cars.
  • insurance problem - can someone help? 6 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I'm trying to buy a replacement car, and want to try and find a good private example. I have the problem that I want to drive the cars, but despite having a fully comprehensive insurance policy i don't have 3rd party cover to drive any vehicle.
  • omega problems? I'm not sure! 12 May 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have an OMEGA 2.5 TURBO DIESEL AUTOMATIC and if so can you tell me if the problem Im having occurs with your car, the reason I ask is one person tells me its right, and another tells me its wrong... Ahhhhhhhhhh ! THE PROBLEM - when driving at all various speeds the car handles a treat until you take your foot off of the accelerator, then the rev counter immediatley drops back down to idle speed (around 700 rpm) and there appears to be no engine braking at all, Down hills especially with foot covering brake pedal it feels like car is in "n" position and coasting.
  • legal protection on insurance 19 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I have a Volvo 940 estate now; galvanised rubber coated damped RSJs as front and rear bumpers - plus tow bar. Unless its another 940 that reverses into me next time, then my car will be unmarked in a similar 2 mph collision. Has anyone else had similar poor experience with such 'legal cover' - is it a con to get yet more money out of us? Alex
  • Rover 75 ? 8 Aug 2001 (Forum)
But the mileage is on the low side for my car having covered 58K with full service history and the important cam-belt change at five years old. This place seems to be a goldmine of knowledge so I'm wondering if you guys can help me out, many thanks in advance.
  • Why is there noise coming from the front wheels of my Toyota Auris? 27 Dec 2016 (Ask HJ)

  • What are the most economical cars? 2 Feb 2021 (Ask HJ)

  • Mitsubishi Colt 1.3 Cleartec 2011 - Suspension knocking (sometimes) 19 Jan 2019 (Forum)
This weekend I'll try emptying the boot... Haven't had time to go to a garage, or jack up the car to check it myself, but thought someone here may have had something similar.  The car has covered 100,000km. One more question - the slightly stiff gearchange on this car may or not be a 'feature', but would fresh gearbox oil help?
