  • Auction visit 3 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Too much money. 2015 Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSi SE 5dr - 54,000 miles. Tidy car but had poorly matched o/s wing repaint. Made £5,500 plus fees. Good car for someone who’s not too fussy. 2017 VW Golf 1.6 TDi S 5dr 103,000 miles but tidy and with good history. Made £5,850 plus fees. Emissions warning light on will mean money spent.
  • Extended Test Drive of a BMW 520d 9 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Unfortunately the E has now been removed from my list so although I wasn’t that keen, I decided to drive an Audi A S-Line as a comparison to the BMW 5 series. Anyway, the BM was delivered and had circa 5,000 miles under its belt so was loosened up nicely. Initial impressions on driving it away were underwhelming.
  • Driving simulator experience 9 Sep 2009 (Forum)
For me this does include using a hands free mobile for demanding conversations as I crashed while using a hands free system to play a child?s game. If you get the chance to go on a similar driving simulator snap up the chance.
  • Abarth 500 - Found out the car I bought two days ago was stolen 26 May 2024 (Forum)
I am not going to go into the details of the transaction but I was obviously fleeced and he did a pretty good job at making sure I had no concerns.   The car was advertised as CAT S and advertised at a lower price to reflect this. The guy had some paperword for the car but not much, and explained that the car was from a Salvage Auction hence not having any service history.   When I cleaned the car yesterday I came across a bunch of business cards in a hidden cubby hole.
  • Van owners: LPG is dying, let's talk biomethane! 24 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Biomethane is functionally the same as methane and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). It's very eco-friendly. Made of straw bales, cow s*** and other things. Burns even more cleanly than LPG and bioLPG. Many big HGV fleets in Europe (inc. Waitrose, M&S and Royal Mail) are converting to it, because EVs are just not practical for long distance trucking.
  • Mini - ALL - Clock ticking on condition based services 3 Jul 2021 (Forum)
While the condition based usage adopted by Mini & BMW can be useful if you are a low mileage driver, there is a massive flaw in the system.  Last year we bought a 'new', unregistered F55 Cooper S, reg in June. Today, the oil change warning appeared on the Mini app. Mini recommend 18000 miles/2 years as their limit. Somewhat shocked, after speaking to the dealer, I was told the 'clock' on fluids starts ticking the day the car rolls off the production line, not the day it's driven out of the showroom.

  • Daihatsu Skywing - Hub-Over-Disk Risk 16 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Driver Side front 43 43 Driver Side rear 33 33 Passenger Side front 52 51 Passenger side rear 33 32 Not as scary as the 90's I was seeing before (though I'll test a longer run) but still apparently consistent with a passenger side bearing problem. I've been reluctant to take it apart because its undocumented, I probably can't get spares, and there seems to be a general concern about the risk of wrecking bearings using a puller or slide hammer on these hub-over-disk / captive rotor designs  Here''s Eric the Car Guy on this, at about 1 min 40 secs in.
  • Ford Escort - Front designs of the Ford Escort (Mk6 1995)? 12 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Same with the van model - almost all are numberplate at bottom but I found this one https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/z/zb8AAOSwT9hcYXB7/$_86.JPG with grille at bottom instead. Even for cabrio I've found this anomaly https://live.staticflickr.com/3849/14535552692_2e95bf572e_b.jpg when literally 99% of other cabrio pictures show it with numberplate in the middle.
  • Volkswagen Polo 1.4 S 75 2006 (55 plate) - Cambelt, tensioner change + water pump replacement 19 Jun 2012 (Forum)

  • SEAT Leon (1999 - 2005) - Rough running at lower revs, warning light 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Although I wasn?t the driver tonight, wife said she didn?t notice any drop-off in power so I?m not sure that it?s the MAF. With the window down I could just about hear the turbo spool up as normal. I?m guessing either dirt in the fuel system or a faulty injector, but would welcome any other suggestions/advice/solutions!
  • Mazda 6 2008 - Recall on my car whilst in production 19 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Only reason i am asking is because now VOSA are reluctant to do anything more in my case because there has only been a few complaints but the problem is near enough exact to why 15,000 Mazda 6's got recalled. They obviously know they had a problem, refuse to tell me why the car was delayed, and they are still telling me this is my fault! The recall is here: Audi Q7 (2006 - ) - Looking to buy an SUV - is anyone else? 17 Sep 2009 (Forum)
He admitted this state of affairs was confusing XC90 - outside contender Havent spoken to a dealer but all recent S/H stock is way more expensive than I can buy new from a broker. Also all stock is band G whilst a new model from the broker has the new band F engine From valvo website GFV at 3 years is 33% of list which is poor, although possibly par for the course Cayenne - not a chance :) Stunning bargains to be had, but I just dont want one So who else is looking?
  • Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - Insurance Write-Off - Payout Dispute 26 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The problem is we can't find another one the same anywhere, let alone locally. In the local area, there are only half a dozen Rover 400's of the same age and type - but not of the same spec or mileage. Insurance have offered £1475 for the car (already having raised that from £1100) and claim that is top book price, but I can't see how it can be replaced like for like (or equivalent) for that money.
  • The hypocrisy in road pricing 5 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I was fuming this morning whilst in the car listening to a debate on Radio Five Live speculating on the contents of Rod Eddington?s report on road pricing, I did not catch all of the show however the presenter, Mathew Bannister, did not help my blood pressure, he tended to defend the principals of road pricing when almost all phone-in callers were against it hence not presenting the neutral stance one expects from the BBC.
  • Blasts from the past 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Shame it also wasn't one of the most reliable! *THE opportunist F1 overtaking manoeuvre of all time. Page 143 - XJ-S V12 Convertible road test. After describing the model facelift changes: "Indeed, a recent court case revealed some XJ-S faking, early cars being refitted with recent bumpers and trim and resold as much newer vehicles."
  • Rot In Peace, Peykan 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Just learnt from BBC TV that the Iran Khodro Company has stopped production of the infamous Peykan, based on the 1960's Hillman Hunter 1725cc and Iran's "people's car" for almost 40 years. Tehran's city sprawl has long been a sea of orange Peykan taxis driven by maniacs, much like the battered Fiat 124's of Cairo.

I collected my wife?s C-Class Avantgarde SE estate last Friday, and we have spent a few days with the car. It is our first M-B, and here are our first impressions: DEALER -Very professional vehicle handover-no rushing. 10/10 -Vehicle preparation very good-but see below. 8/10 -Dealer workshop very grubby; worse than Ford dealers. 3/10 CAR-FIRST DRIVE -That new car smell!!
