This will ensure  that friends and 'bar-room rivals' get the chance to race side by side and settle old scores on the FIA-approved track, under fully timed conditions.  The more cars that each club pre-books, the more track time will be allocated to them. Spilt into sessions 10 to 20 cars will get a total of 40 minutes of track time, 30-40 cars will get 80 minutes. And so on and so on - meaning that every car in each club can expect a minimum of 4 runs each, conditions permitting.

Its weakest point is its susceptibility to problems caused by dirty oil, so a good service history will most likely point to a reliable car. The only other weak point is the throttle body, which can get dirty if the car is never warmed up, so be wary of extremely low mileage models. Besides that the Micra is a fairly sensible first car choice, but as with all cheap used cars, look out for rust, wear and tear and damage. £1000 will get you 70,000 mile, 2002 model with a reasonable trim level, tax and MOT.

  • A Grand Monday: Vauxhall Astra Mk4 17 Jun 2019 (News)
They all do that, sir… At £895, then, this one is twice the price of many examples on the market, but you can tell just from the photos that it’s more than twice the car - the interior is almost spotless and it manages to just sit and look ‘right’ in the way that only a genuinely well-loved and cherished car can. Examples like this need buying and preserving while they still exist… Read our Vauxhall Astra Mk4 review and buyer's guide How many Vauxhall Astra Mk4 survived?
  • A Grand Monday: Mercedes-Benz E300D 10 Sep 2018 (News)
However, it’s also a car that does exactly what it says on the tin, but also does so peerlessly well. Like a comfortable pair of slippers, once you’ve got a 124, you really don’t want to get rid of it. It’s a car that will always be useful, no matter what.

  • Race Retro to celebrate ground effect F1 cars 6 Oct 2017 (News)
Gustave Eiffel of Parisian tower fame had a wind tunnel that Peugeot used to help shape its Grand Prix cars in the 1910s. But it was Colin Chapman of Team Lotus who fully realised the idea of a race car as an inverted wing, pressed to the track by the air that passed over its bodywork. Chapman’s landmark design was the Lotus 79, introduced early during the 1978 season.
