£5k...what to buy? 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)
My housemate now wants a car. He's been working the last two years nearly to save up for one and passed his driving test in December, but he has limited experience of driving. Nonetheless he wants to buy a car for £5k with his parents saying they'll pay for his insurance provided it is group 5 or lower. He wants: something with "street cred", is easy and nice to drive, can carry 4 ppl in comfort on long journeys. -

A historic driving day 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
As the motorways were busy I went the back route through Baden Baden and across the Black Forest.... ......and what a drive. Billiard smooth, winding forest roads, pretty empty, picturesque villages, no speed cameras out of the villages, little traffic. The sun was out, the top on the Barchetta was down, the music was on (loud) and life was very very good. -

Are Driving Standards Falling? 25 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Must be the third or fourth instance of ignoring red lights I've seen in the last fortnight. Turning right on no right turn junctions is a daily occurance. Mobile phone use whilst driving hasn't decreased since it became illegal. Eating and drinking at the wheel is commonplace. Overtaking on double white lines: daily. Blocking yellow box junctions. What is the World coming to? -
1995 vw Golf Autobox probs 7 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Since then the problem is still there, and I have given up on driving the car because it is too dangerous to drive. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be or whether this is a common fault on the golf? thanks Josh -
Schumacher, F1 27 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Ok you Formula1 detractors. Schumachers middle section drive from 12 to third. Driving of utter brilliance with stunning machinery. Button - poked with a pointy stick by Schumacher and yelping out of the way, sold down the river by being blocked into back markers by the master. -
Engine Life 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hi guys, I like to drive quite 'adventurously', and I'm just wondering how much this affects the life/condition of the engine. At the moment, I change the oil every 5000 miles, always let the engine warm up before really revving it, and drive normally for a bit afterwards to help it cool down. -
Mazda MX-5 cam shaft drive belt 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
The service schedule states that the cam shaft drive belt should be changed after 60k miles (no mention of time). Is this purely a distance service item? My mark 2 MX-5 has done only 30k miles and is coming up to 6 years old. There appears to be some doubt as to whether a change is now necessary. -

Great British Driving Test 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Given that it seems to answer many of the same questions as the normal theory test I was astonished to see that the average score is around 26. Does this mean that all these people have insufficient road knowledge to drive safely? (Also like question 8, it should remind people not to use foglights :)) -
Drink driving crackdown? 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I only saw two police cars the whole time and those were in broad daylight cruising around the M25 doing the 'don't go faster that me' trick. Have the police abandoned the traditional drink driving blitz? (I am teetotal by the way.) -
Puncture Repaired Tyre 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
My question is though - is the repaired tyre, which is now on the front, safe to use for an extended drive? I am due to drive through France next week, covering about 1500 motorway miles in 3 days - (return journey!) The tread on the tyres are fine, but I was just wondering whether other BRs would get new fronts fitted before this drive. -

Apart from keeping his fingers crossed, is there any other way of dealing with this that would be acceptable to a driving examiner? -
