  • Alfa Romeo jts - Engine Failure on approved car 27 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, I purchased the car (24700miles)  from an Alfa main dealer mid January 2010, and as with all alfas, have had a few problems - mostly minor that have been easily resolved by myself / dealer.  2 months ago (28000miles) the car was due its service and I took it to the main dealer.
  • Insurance about exporting my car to Europe 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi there, Just have some questions about insurance when exporting my own car to Europe . I am about to move to Luxembourg (>12months) and want to drive my car there. Surely it is regarded as export according to DVLA. I need to get my car registered there but it is very very time consuming.
  • Injured passenger in car crash with drink driver. 25 Jul 2009 (Forum)
A friend was recently in a car crash and I'm checking for some initial advice. TV advertising would suggest that I should just phone Claims 4U etc, but I'd like some reasoned advice first. The crash was in Northern Ireland, it was a hire car, the car crashed into a wall on the left side, so the driver walked away without a scratch but those on the left (front and back) had to be cut out of the car and have various broken bones.
  • Running in a new yaris 1 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Firstly, apologies if this is covering old ground again: SWMBO's younger sister has just been bought a new Yaris GLS for her 17th and is currently learning to drive in it. The car cannot have done more than about 150 miles at the mo.
  • Supervising a learner 4 Apr 2025 (Forum)
My sister is learning to drive - she's passed her theory test and is having lessons with an instructor. She is thinking of buying a car now to get more experience behind the wheel before she takes her driving test, and has asked if I would supervise her. I have never done this before, but found some very useful stuff at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/supervise-a-learner-driver The site states: "As a full licence holder, you’re in charge of the car, even when the learner is driving."
  • Mercedes E220d - Camshaft warranty Mercedes E220d 29 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I won't hear the outcome until Monday. Does anyone know what I should expect them to cover? Just the parts or part and labour or...? Car serviced twice by a Mercedes specialist since and isn't due another service for 4000 miles.
  • Jaguar S-Type - Consumer Advice Please 19 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I bought the car in August 2018, and noted that it had a new battery fitted in January 2018. It's a Lion battery, not a brand I'd have chosen, but it was on the car. A few electrical gremlins later, I've just put my meter across the battery and read 12.4V (14.65 with the alternator charging).

  • Honda CR-V III - Parking sensors 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I know I can turn the whole thing off, especially with the rearview camera to help, but I like things to work on the car, however non-vital they may be. As the car's just out of guarantee - of course - I'm now facing a fairly hefty bill, although the dealer has apparently asked Honda to cover it, due to fairly low mileage and no other claims.
  • 1972 MGB GT 1.8 - Buying a 1972 MGB GT 22 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Dear Sir, Recently I found that an old friend was going to sell a 1972 MGB GT, which had been lovingly cared for all its life and was now under its own cover inside a garage. (Two owners from new. Present owner has had it for 40+years)   It is a car I'd always admired, but I cannot afford the present asking price of £10,000. Naturally I do not wish to hurt my friend's feelings by offering the price I can afford and yet the dealer prices are lower still.
  • Toyota Yaris - Horn not sounding 16 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi Posters,  Toyota Yaris diesel 2010.   The car had the MOT last month and passed at the dealer. Then two weeks later the car was booked in to have some work carried out for TSBs, I believe these relates to the DPF oil fire and air bag recall.    My question is, is  there anyway when the mechanic removed the steering wheels cover to access the air bag to inspect as part of TSB would have compromised the function of the horn.
  • Volvo V40 - Owners Reviews 21 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Just a note to the webmaster on HJ that the Volvo V40 2012 owners reviews have been somewhat skewed (to say the least) by the multiple additions of reviews of the same car by one person, namely V40MAN (entries for two variants within 1 day [almost certainly the same car - he probably didn't know the review doesn't appear straight away on the site so entered it several times] and multiple copies of each).
  • Ford S-MAX - Reasonable wear and tear? 2 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Following a good discussion on this forum, I went for a Ford SMax last year, and spent £9k on a 2007 2.5T from a main dealer.  I've been really happy with the car. I've since put it in for a service to a different (more local) main dealer, and they have found £2k worth of work.  They reckon that neither they warranty nor the MOT failure policy cover any of it.
  • Insurers make my blood boil 20 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Last night I renewed my and my wifes' cars online with Axa at a very competitive rate.  I filled all the forms out correctly and told that we both watned to drive each others cars for business use.  I am a Chartered Surveyor, she works for the NHS and is mainly a housewife.
  • Should I service my Jetta DSG or not? 17 Nov 2012 (Ask HJ)
Should I wait for the service indicator to give my 59-plate Volkswagen Jetta 2.0TDI DSG, or should I just service it anyway? It has covered 32,000 miles,...
  • Mazda 3 TS2 1.6 Petrol (56 plate) - Mazda 3 Inlet Manifold Gasket leaking air. 20 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The Mazda delaer commented that the inlet manifold gasket *may* be leaking air. The car's covered only 31,500 miles!  What could've caused this? Dealer has quoted £231 to rectify.   I explained that I have a Mazda Extended Warranty but dealer stated that Mazda would need evidence of the fault.
  • Honda Accord Coupe - Honda Accord 08 - VSA warning light 4 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I bought this car from Arnold Clark in Scotland last weekend. It is registered March 08 with 27,500 miles on it. This weekend the VSA warning light comes on and isn't going out. I believe this is now covered by Honda under their BMW 5 Series E60 - BMW e60 520d auto gearbox problem 7 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The BMW dealers reckon they want to do two gearbox oil changes to see if it will fix it.. despite it being "sealed for life" .. and my understanding that two oil changes are only to clear out contaminants.. and the onyl contaminants I can think of will be shards of the gears themselves! I have extended warranry on the car, but  a gearbox oil change (£500 worth - £170 oil) would not be covered and may not fix the problem. Anyone have any ideas? Will BMW listen if I take the car to a transmission specialist?
  • Skoda Octavia - Variable Servicing / Oil change 6 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi I bought a 07 plate 1.9 diesel Octavia last month and a mighty fine car too. Trouble is I can't get my head round a two year service interval ( I always did a six month intermediate oil change on my last car) and since we only cover 10K a year, so might be better changing to fixed annual service.
  • Chrysler Grand Voyager - I have a hissing noise 4 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I have had the car for a year, and since I bought it there has been a hissing sound coming from the passenger side foot well. I eventually took off a small cover just adjacent to the blowers, and found where the linkage for the foot break goes through the bulkhead.
