  • VW POLO Auto LHD 1.4 2001, - Rumbling noise steering left while driving 27 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi there, I really would appreciate help with this. I own a VW POLO from 2001. Its automatic and Left Hand Drive. Only has 35K miles on the clock.  While driving at any speed there is a low rumble when turning left. It is also associated with a related slight vibration that I feel through the steering column.
  • Peugeot 306 HDi - Knocking noise at front of car 17 Jul 2011 (Forum)
However the car has developed a knock which appears to come from the front drivers side in the area near to the front wheel. The knock is not ever present. It does not happen whilst driving in a straight line and does not happen when driving over bumps or generally over bumpy ground. It more often appears after driving for a period of about twenty minutes and is particularly bad when turning slowly especially to the left.I have a slanted drive that rises about 20degrees from bottom to top and when I turn left and upwards onto my drive I usually get three or for knocking sounds which continue when I straighten up.
  • Does my Hyundai Santa Fe automatically disengage the ESP when engaging four-wheel drive? 28 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
I believe I have to disengage my Hyundai Santa Fe's ESP if I decide to use locked four-wheel drive. Does this mean that if the car decides to engage four-wheel...
  • 18yr old son passed Driving Test today - now what? 8 Nov 2009 (Forum)
The failed first test earlier in the year made him realise that he doesn't know everything :-)... However now he has to; 1) get insured, 2) buy a car??, 3) drive on motorways and 4) learn how to get around himself without mum, dad or satnav to guide him. 1) Do we just start with him as a named (new) driver on mum's insurance which was where it was linked to during the "learning to drive" phase or start him off on his own?
  • Cars parked blocking my drive 27 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Need a bit of advice here. Neighbour who lives directly across the street from me - despite having a drive capable of safely parking 4 cars - chooses to park in the street. Street is pretty narrow - typical housing estate set up. By going so - getting out my drive involves quite an effort despite the fact it's only a small Peugeot 205.
  • Finding the perfect driving position. 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Pulling out the steering wheel as far as it will go also reduces the need to crane forward while maintaining maximum legroom. What tips do backroomers have on how to attain the perfect driving position and maintain long distance comfort?
  • Tyre experiment over.. 27 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Guess what, no measurable difference, still averaging over the year, 53mpg on heavy duty stop start type driving. The only difference was a slightly firmer ride, only noticable on the first drive or two and much better handling if forced into an emergency swerve. The tread depths a lot deeper on these tyres too.
  • Driving in Italy 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Appalling lack of consideration for others, lack of concern for personal safety or those of passengers ( I lost track of the number of children unbelted, in the front, and I reckon general use of seatbelts well under 20%). Obsessive use of mobiles while driving ..complete disregard for speed limits, no overtaking zones..some appalling road surfaces and signing. Two examples I will remember for some time.. Crossing the street in a town called Ostuni , on a ped crossing, we had to slap a car on the bonnet to stop it driving into my daughter.
  • Phone while driving: what would you do? 12 Jul 2006 (Forum)
After a mile or so, the driver decides it's time to phone the other person, and "sort it out". Apart from involving illegal use of a mobile phone while driving, (there's no hands-free), this is clearly going to be a long and heavy call, with plenty of conflict: precisely the sort of call which is likely to be most distracting. As the driver picks up the phone, you point out that it should not be used while driving, but with one hand on the wheel while turning a corner, the dialling begins with the other hand.
  • All this Insurance Fully Comp Business 16 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Then of course I will have to insure myself on mine, name Dad and Mum (not forgetting where my sister comes into it all). It's rare - in fact, since Mum got her car it's only happened once, that one parent will drive the other's car yet the insurance company are getting more money for the policy just on the offchance that one parent would need to drive the other car. I'm willing to bet that thousands upon thousands of people are going to either not bother, or be so confused they'll be driving around unknowingly uninsured.

  • RTA & Driving Licences 28 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I know these are the queries I normally answer myself, but here`s one I don`t know the answer to. If a non-UK citizen is in the UK they are able to drive on their "foreign" driving licence for a length of time. This length of time depends on the circumstances, but that isn`t my point. I am a UK citizen. Can I use my Brazilian, Chilean, Mexican or US driving licences in the same way ?
  • Who was driving Speed Cameras 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Who was driving - speed camera loopholes ! I am told that some people with 'points' on their licence ask friends or relatives to say that they {the friens / relative} were driving. The ?guilty person may pay the fine, of say their 90 year old grandmother who has not driven for 15 years ?

  • Revoked licence - insurance 30 Jan 2020 (Forum)
I've also got a ticket for driving without a valid driving licence, just waiting for the ticket office to get in touch with me. I honestly don't know how is this even possible as -for example- I've had a driving offence last year (driving 47mph on a 40mph limit road) and the DVLA sent the letter to my recent address asking for identifying the driver of which I've replied to and then took the driver awareness course, I was also stopped by the police 2-3 times in the past 7 years for routine checks where they have checked my licence, no one said a word about my licence being revoked.

  • Car drivers have to pass a test to ride moped? 14 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Ok I passed my full UK car driving test in 2005, in 2008 I passed a bus and lorry driving test. I decided it would save me money and be easier if I got myself a little moped to drive to the bus depot and let my missus drive my car while I'm at work.

  • Land Rover Range Rover Sport (2005 - ) - Had a long drive in one last night 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
It has a very comfortable driving position, helped by the fact you don't have to totally climb up into the car. However the driving position in the Subaru Forester remains in pole position for me. The disappointment was the dashboard which is very plasticky and the steering wheel is too big and too thick.
