  • VW Golf or Ford Focus - Buying cheap old small automatic 10 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I'm 70 yrs old (though not decrepit yet!) and now need an automatic after many years of successful buying of old motors and cheap motoring. Having been through a very traumatic series of events recently I want a convertible to cheer myself up.  Has anyone any thoughts on this?
  • Citroen C4 - Auction question 31 May 2016 (Forum)
Is this an instant sign of something to be concerned about as surely they would just sell it themselves? Any advice on the EGS automatic would also be helpful.
  • Audi A4 B6 - Is a 2004 Audi A4 2.0 Petrol Automatic any good? 17 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I recently found a very good looking and mint Audi A4 2.0 Petrol Automatic for sale with very low mileage and a great price. Since there is only 2.0 badging on the back I'm assuming it's the 131 PS version. However, I can't seem to find any information on it online.
  • Ford c-Max - C-Max Automatic – Worth Buying 7 Mar 2015 (Forum)
A friend who has never owned an automatic asked me to look at a ‘56’ 2-litre C-Max for sale at a small local dealer last week. As he has never even driven an auto I took it on the test drive. It felt capable but nothing special and my friend said he would think about it.
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus Automatics 2008 and beyond 20 Jul 2014 (Forum)
If I have 2 x 2008 Ford Focus in front of me and one says powershift and the other does not but both are 'automatic' and the powershift focus is a 6 speed dct does that mean that the non powershift focus is a 4 speed. The reason I ask is because I know that powershift starting coming with the focusfrom around 2008 here in the UK.

  • Best automatic for my requirements...? 6 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I'm in the market for a used automatic saloon. My annual milage is low, max 8000/year, and a lot of that is urban so decent fuel economy is a priority. I tend to prefer German cars and have had good experiences with VWs so that's mostly where I've been looking  Budget £6-8k.
  • Ford Focus - Which Ford Focus (2008-2011) Automatic to go for? 25 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Help all focus drivers? I'm looking to purchase a focus automatic and struggling to decide which engine to go for. 1) 1.6 petrol are very common and well priced even for 2010 & 11 models. However reviews are saying this is underpowered and should be avoided at all costs?
  • Ford Focus 2002 - 1.6 Automatic gearbox fault 27 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I have just had a vehicle come into stock which appears to have a gearbox fault. It is a 2002 Focus 1.6 LX Automatic. 86k miles. It will not pull away in first gear, only second gear. Even if you move the selector to '1', it still pulls away in second. Also, the 2-3 change is a bit harsh and it doesnt seem to find a fourth gear.

  • I've never bought an automatic... 19 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I go through this process far too often of spending hours trawling Autotrader and then end up sticking with the Saab. More often than not, SWMBO reins me in. I quite like the idea of going automatic, but other than one or two hire cars, I don't really have much experience of them. Is there anything I should be looking out for when buying that I wouldn't with a manual apart from the mpg issue?
  • Proton Persona gearbox noise (automatic) 29 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have a Proton Persona 1.6 automatic and have recently noticed a noise from the gearbox when engaged in Drive. When i engage reverse i hear a click as the gear angages followed by a buzzing sound which stops after 2 or 3 seconds. When i engage Drive or 2 it makes the same sound as in reverse but the buzzing continues.
  • Clio Automatic gearbox 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I?ve got a K reg Clio 1.4 RT automatic that is giving symptoms of a slipping clutch. With the selector in either D,1,2,3 i get very high revs with next to no forward movement. It drives ok in reverse with no problems. Just to give you a bit of history I had the gearbox reconditioned about 2 years/ 15,000 miles ago.
  • Toyota Yaris Automatic 3 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I have the opportunity to accquire a 2001 51 plate Toyota Yaris 1.3 VVTi CDX with automatic transmission. Its in mint condition with 20000 miles on the clock in a tasteful metallic green colour. Full Toyota history and there's nothing wrong with it. I have no desire or use for the car for myself, but I'm sure I read in one of HJ's auction reports that there was big demand for Yaris Auto's and the prices were high.
  • Converting an automatic to manual ? 22 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I did a search and didn?t find anything. So here goes; How difficult would it be to convert an automatic car to manual ? ? I know that current autos may prove problematic as all the electronics may be linked. I was thinking more of late 80's or early 90's cars, where the electronics, if at all, were fairly "basic".
  • Automatic Family Car 21 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I've looked at a few cars and the winning options so far are the Skoda Superb and Mazda 6 estate, although finding the latter in a petrol-automatic spec in budget is like a needle in a haystack. I'm hoping for some alternative options that maybe I haven't considered, I'm very open to new suggestions if they sound like a good idea!
  • CLS 220d AMG Line Premium 5d 7G-Tronic - automatic driving technique advise 4 Dec 2018 (Forum)

When pulling up to a junction or lights I slow and apply foot brake, at this point if i depress the brake hard I go into "hold" however sometimes this does not happen instead the engine turns off with the stop/start feature, my foot is still on the brake.

My automatic 2000 Vectra 2.5 V6 Arctic Automatic occasionally conks out when slowing down. The engine cuts out and I lose control of the steering. I've also noticed that the engine management light occasionally comes on from time to time and then goes out again.
