  • Nissan Micra 2001. - Car losing a lot of power. 11 Feb 2022 (Forum)
I took my car to the local mechanic and he plugged it into his diagnostic machine and it came up reading "Running Too Lean". I have renewed the spark plugs, fuel filter and the lambda sensor at the top of the manifold closet to the top of the engine. There is still no change in performance. Any help or guidance will be very much appreciated.
  • VW T5 2006, 1.9axb - Webasto 21 Jan 2022 (Forum)
After 12 years of usage, when I was servicing the car it came to my atention that it is has a webasto sistem located on the left, between the fuel tank and the engine support. After a quick examination of the sistem I can tell it has not been functioning, or at least not functioning recently. The car doesen't have a activation panel or a key that could trigger the webasto so I came to the conclusion that its ther for the purose of helping the car to quickly heat up.
  • Various - Honest John QA 6 Nov 2021 (Forum)
He seems to think 45ppm is ok as it's the HMRC rate BUT that rate is for drivers using cars for work so has a large proportion of that 45pence per mile to cover fuel, insurance and tax. The depreciation element is only a fraction of 45p per mile but he doesn't even consider that.   Over recent years the quality of advice in general is extremely poor.
  • Mercedes A250e - hybrid 19 Feb 2021 (Forum)
If you wanted one it would set you back £36k...out of my league...there are so many features on the displays it would take me a long time to come to grips with them.First car I had was a Viva HB with a speedo, fuel/temp gauge and not much else. Wind the windows down yourself and any other fancy stuff you needed like a clock you bought and stuck it in. Happy days. Cost me £400.
  • Electric vehicle tax 7 Dec 2020 (Forum)
https://www.caradvice.com.au/903101/victoria-to-tax-electric-and-plug-in-hybrid-vehicles-from-2021/ I have no doubt that these new taxes will soon be extended to internal combustion engine vehicles also in addition to fuel excise charges.  You don't want to stand between a politician and a bucket of money!  I also expect that if they tax vehicles on kilometreage covered that there will soon be a lot of odometer correcting done.
  • Polestar 2 - EV Carbon Footprint 17 Sep 2020 (Forum)
To produce the cars, it's 14 tonnes of Co2 for an ICE car, against 24 tones for the Polestar 2. To produce the fuel to power the XC40 will account for 41 tonnes, whilst using a Global mix of generation sources it's 23 tonnes. Solely wind power is 0.4 tonnes.  So the sums are saying that if you're in Europe you're ahead after 80,000Km, using a global mix of power sources it's 100,000Km, and if you're purely on wind power 50,000Km.
  • Electric - Cost ---- £ 700 3 Apr 2020 (Forum)
I told the company I was thinking of an electric car but wanted to weigh up the cost in comparison to the traditional fuels.  I was quoted about £ 700, I did forget to ask if that included VAT.

  • DIY Cleaning Diesel Injectors 1 Aug 2019 (Forum)
So as the car isnt worth enough to justify getting them cleaned professionally, I was told to pour Redex directly into the Fuel filter and start/turn over the engine to clean out the injectors....I know this sounds crude but as a DIY method is it worth doing/would it damage the engine? Would appreciate your comments.
  • MG ZS 2017 update, 6 months and plus 5800 miles since purchase 23 May 2019 (Forum)
Mine, no further problems or niggles, and really like the dashboard and controls, except the speed/cruise control lever which is hidden behind the steering wheel, but as i don't use it, no problem. fuel consumption continues around 40-42 mpg so happy with that. Off to Antwerp in a couple of weeks for a school re-union for swmbo. Am sure i will enjoy the experience of the Antwerp "Ring Road" (again)
  • Mondeo Filler cap not opening 16 Apr 2019 (Forum)
A 50 pence fitting fails making the car completely useless. Any ideas? Does this happen often and therefore is it an obvious failure? How do I get the fuel cap open without ripping half the car off? It is a 1998 face-lift ford mondeo salon Ghia. (For all those who recommend Mondeo?s on this forum, let this be a lesion to you :-) )
  • VW Polo 1.6 tdi - Repeat diesel injector failure 16 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Help, is there another underlying fault that's causing the injectors to fail? Its not a fuel issue as I've been buying the premium diesel since the first breakdown.
  • Ford Kuga - Ford kuga acceleration problems 26 Sep 2018 (Forum)
For example I am driving in 3rd gear with around 1600 rpm the engine seems to be fine and running smoothly but atfer 5 seconds of driving constant like this the engine start to shake giving the feeling like its loosing power or the fuel is intrerupted. Then I push the acceleration pedal to 2000 rpm and everything seems to be fine however this is not the only situation when the engine is doing like this but is the situation when i feel this issue the most.

  • Workhorse saloon under 2.5k? 30 Jul 2017 (Forum)
He'll mainly use the car for work, needs it to be saloon style for the boot space, he's thinking diesel for fuel economy and idealy not less reliable or more expensive at maintaining/parts than his previous Passat What do you guys think?
  • most new cars - spare wheel and liabilities 19 Dec 2015 (Forum)
The spacesaver is not recommended for use on the front in my opinion and I'd rather carry all that extra weight of a full size spare and suffer the increase in fuel! The taxman gets his cut from that. Eg. It places your car in a higher road tax band for one. Would an insurance company use this against your possible claim in any accident,  I would not be surprised if they did.
  • Audi A3 tfsi 2.0 Quattro - Premium Petrol 11 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Would it be worth running on premium petrol, would this reduce carbon build up on the valves or would it have little effect as the fuel doesn't pass through/over the valves to clean them anyway? Also is there much difference between ESSO Supreme and Shell V Power and could you switch between the two if one wasn't available?
  • Compensation 12 May 2015 (Forum)
Leaving aside the question of a suitable replacement vehicle. How can I recover the contingent losses in connection with a full tank of fuel, expensive mobile phone calls, loss of prepaid warranty for 14 months, loss of holiday plus all the considerable stresses and inconvenience suffered through no fault of mine? The financial cost to me from the time of the collision to the present is considerable.
  • "new car for oldroverboy!" - Kia RIO 1.2 6 May 2015 (Forum)
After a long time thinking about it went for a Kia Rio 2 to replace the chevrolet. seating position is better, and a bit smaller, lower road "tax" £30, less to insure, better fuel economy. Bit obliged to change as the cruze had a malfunction light diagnosed as lambda/oxygen sensor so traded as is, trade in price reflects this, so not too unhappy, and a 1 year old rio about £5000 off new list.
