Do we need more 4x4 commercial vehicles? 15 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Would it be a sensible idea for companies who operate fleets vans and light trucks to include a few with 4-wheel drive. Vans seem to have been having particular trouble in these slippery conditions - whether they be rear-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. 4-wheel-drive versions of some vans are available - e.g. -
Driving after major surgery with confusion issues 11 Jun 2009 (Forum)
My dad came home today having just had a heart bypass and valve replacement. He cant drive for 8 weeks anyway but he is also suffering from confusion and short-term memory loss ( known as POCD apparently covering a wode range of odd behavior post OP ). Has anyone here had this problem as we are not sure if my dad is fully aware how away with the fairies he sometimes is and Im wondering if he will be able to make the right judgement on when he is ready to drive again. -

My wife, who is in her 50s, has decided she would like to learn to drive. I would welcome your suggestions as to a suitable car to buy for her. It should... -
KIA Rio (2005 - ) - Rio 1.5l diesel realistic mpg figures 10 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I don't think the official figures are realistic at all but I should have more varied figures between spirited driving and driving like a saint. -
PCV licence requirements 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My employer gave me an old 12-seat minibus to use today as a van. Something niggled, so I checked the DVLA site to see if I was legal. 'If you had entitlement to drive cars prior to 1 January 1997 you can drive a minibus provided you are 21 or over and the minibus has a maximum of 17 seats including the driver's seat and is not being used for hire or reward. To drive a minibus which has nine or more passenger seats for hire or reward you will normally need passenger carrying vehicle entitlement (PCV).' -
Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - 98 2.5 white smoke while driving fine on start-up 20 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi All, Hope you can give some advise on my recent purchase (Monday). Audi A4 2.5 Tdi that is pumping out white smoke while driving, nothing on start up (and no problems starting), some smoke idling and normal driving, but excessive smoke if you floor it, only noticed it after a run up to 80mph filtering onto an A road and then stopping at a set of lights after a mile or so (lots of white smoke!). -
An outdated stereotype 5 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The line up includes ancient rockers like Status Quo, Deep Purple, Chicago, Meat Loaf - who'll no doubt bang out tracks from those rubbish 'driving anthems' CDs. When will this depressing 'motorists music' stereotype die? Who actually drives around listening to 70s driving rock anthems? I'm 37 and spent my early teens listening to New Order and the great Manchester bands, then moved onto house and dance music before ending up appreciating soul and r'n'b. -
Dangerous driving - in reverse ? 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The following from the BBC ( and on London TV ) seems a very unusual situation. "A suspicion of dangerous driving" when reversing . Driver of crashed coach arrested The coach was involved in a collision with a car. The driver of a coach that crashed into a three-storey block of flats in north London has been arrested, police said. -
Family Saloons 12 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I find the Renault I have to be very smooth and comfortable to drive , and that was my concern with the Hyundai - would I find it as easygoing to drive and comfortable to be in. Would the Mazda 3 saloon provide the same level of comfort? A general comparison would be valuable between the Renault Megane Sports Saloon from 2006, and the Mazda 3 saloon., also post facelift. -
Driving to Italian Lakes. Advice/tips/route? 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I was thinking of going through Germany, Austria and over the Brenner Pass but any other alternatives would be good as this type of continental driving is all new to me. Somehow got to work out how to get 2 weeks worth of luggage in our MG TF now :-( -
Crazy driving abroad 12 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I can only guess he was not used to this new roundabout since it was new and there simply aren't that many over here. Anybody else got some jaw dropping tales of crazy driving abroad? -
Photocard driving licence. 11 Nov 2007 (Forum)
It seems a pity that some sort of chip could not have been incorporated into the photocard, thereby containing the necessary information which then may have made the paper portion redundant. Does anyone else in fact NOT carry their driving licence on their person or if they do, do they carry both components? -
My driving is getting worse 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I am guilty. What is the solution? Funnily enough, if I am in the Outback rather than the Trajet and driving a little more quickly, I don't suffer. -
Weekend driving 3 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Eeeeh when I were a lad - I used to hear people constantly going on about Sunday drivers I'm not sure if the phenomena still exists anymore or if it does maybe it's in a different guise Where I live - London suburb - I notice a major increase in aggressive driving at the weekend - esp Sunday afternoons (visiting parents???) I get a lot more tailgating, even when I'm just driving to a paper shop at 9 ish on a Saturday morning and just a general increase in impatience and snappy attitudes I've been putting it down to concentrated consumerism (not in the Christmas sense) in that people are deperate to squash all their boring tasks into the shortest possible time (fair enough I guess) and a sense among people that their weekends must be fully utilised for enjoyment/shopping or they feel shortchanged /cheated in some way, and heaven help anyone who gets in the way. -
Good car drivers need cams fitted to car 29 Sep 2006 (Forum)
A few weeks ago I was watching one of thsoe 'accident' 'Police Stop Cam Action' progs when they showed footage from cabs and cars which had cams installed to cut down insurance costs and settle cases quickly! The hard drive cams run as you drive saving a certain amount and then delte and restart unless saved. The hard drive cams can have footage saved by a press of a button if a driver has seen bad driving or nearly in an accident. -
Driving Instructors 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
There have always been the odd madman and silly old flatcap to contend with but I am seeing far more sloppy driving than I used to. Instructing novices should entail more than the mechanics of car control. If you don't already, why not suggest to your learners that they read the Highway Code once a year? That little rant has done me good after a very hectic day. ;-)) -
Test drives 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
But wanted to test the cars properly, and would like to see how they handle towing, so would like to drive for a couple of days at least. Any ideas? Not tried the dealers yet, but is this reasonable or am I going to be laughed at.... -
Performance driving courses 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
This course would complement a defensive driving course from IAM fleet or ROSPA for the public road testing. I have done a quick Google but would be really interested to hear if people have specific recommendations. Thanks -
Spaniards and their driving 7 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Just come back from two weeks in (very) sunny Spain. All I can say is that the Spanish method of driving is barmy. It seems to consist of driving as close to the vehicle in front as possible until they get out of the way. The parking was hilarious. Any free space (pedestrian crossing, junction, island) is fair game to park the car. -
Pug 406 109tdi 98 strange noise 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Will try 'scrappies' next week - meanwhile a Q or 2. When refitting, is there a specific position for the external drive (the semi-circular toothed drive) in relation to the position of the actual flap valve. Assuming the flap valve to be in the open position, should the drive on the motor be fully at left or fully at right or central?
