  • Help!! Escort 1.8 Zetec Revving ! 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, looking for suggestions of which part to replace on my engine. Car works fine when cold start. After about 1 mile it bucks about a few times suggesting fuel starvation. But once it warms up you then experience high revving, as though choke it fully out. Strangely the high revving stops as soon as you are stationary. If you know what sensor/valve I need to replace could you do a huge favour by telling me where to look for it on the engine !!
  • Want To Improve My Car? 21 May 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest what else i can do to impove the look and mechanics of the car, with limited knowledge and finance? Thinking of getting the engine bay steam cleaned and putting some redex fuel treatment in to clean some of the gum and carbon deposits in the system. Would appreciate any ideas?
  • Ford Mondeo TDCi 130 2 May 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone else here had this happen and if so what caused the problem. I went straight to a local dealer (mine is a company car so not bought locally) who said the fuel pump was showing signs of wear, the car is 2 days old!. It has run ok since that though. Thanks Richard
  • Old and boring audi 80 - but! 11 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I know a scirocco can take weber, is it poss to throw on a scirocco manifold with weber? Is it worth bothering with any of above if I can fit a fuel injection system? - I think Motronic uses same manifold and head... and not too much wiring? Thanks for any help lads.... and lassies!

  • Citroen Xantia misfires and runs badly 13 Nov 2002 (Forum)
It is difficult to start and when I've got it started the tickover is very uneven, the orange engine management light comes on intermittently. it drops down from 2000 rpm to almost zero then stars going again, also every now and then there is a bad misfire which sounds like unburnt fuel exploding in the exhaust. Any help will be appreciated, or if anyone knows a reasonably priced citroen mechanic in the London area. Thanks Nicky
  • Losing my cool on my Golf GTI 4 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I bought my car last spring and i used the Aircon back then and it was only blowing normal cold air and i took it back to the dealer and they said that they forgot to put some sort of fuel for it. I only used during last summer for 2 weeks max and 8 months later (well today) i've to use it today and its now blowing normal air which is annoying .. can anyone shed me some ideas why it has happened again?!?!?...
  • Honda Accord "Pinking" and Power Lack 17 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I also have lack of power sometimes when pulling off in first (gets bogged down for a few seconds then accelerates OK). Other times the car runs fine. Fuel economy is terrible though, now I only get about 26MPG combined, and 32 on a run (used to get 38+ before noise started. Anyone else got similar problems?
  • focus estate 1.8i 15" 16" wheels differe 6 Feb 2002 (Forum)
once my bust gearbox estate is back on the road i will need to tax it fairly soon. following the hj links to a site that tells you the new road tax rates i discover that if i have 15" tyres i pay £140 per annum, but £155 per annum on 16" tyres. can i fit either size tyre to the same wheel? should i go for 15"? or does this badly affect fuel consumption? thanks for any help
  • Mondeo 1.8 Pinking 16 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Further to a thread in the past my 99 Mondeo 1.8 is still pinking on normal unleaded (fine on optimax) I have replaced the plugs and HT leads, ran three doses of VAG fuel additive through the system and reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for half a day. Incidentally, since disconnecting the battery and resetting the ECU the pinking seems to be worse (I might be imagining it though.)
  • Fiesta 1.1 woes. 24 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The problem is now that it won't start at all ! If the ECU fuse is removed, it will start but only on the fuel that is in the sytem, after that it cuts out. With the fuse replaced it won't start at all. It seems as if the ECU is overfueling and flooding the car. Would remapping the ECU do any good ? Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  • Bleeding diesel 26 Aug 2001 (Forum)
In the handbook for my Vectra 2.0DTi it gives instructions for restarting the car if the tank has become completely empty. For the X1.7DT diesel engine it goes on to say it can be restarted by automatically bleeding the fuel system by use of the starter motor. For the X20 DTL engine however it says. "Never let tank become empty!!" "On account of the very high injection pressure a complicated procedure is required to bleed the system, this must be carried out by a Vauxhall Dealership".
  • Ford Mondeo or BMW 5 series (E34) 4 Jul 2001 (Forum)
The car will occasionally be used for towing a small car/boat. I am looking at 1997 + MY Ford Mondeo or a E34 5 series (535i?). Fuel economy is irrelevant as private and businesspetrol is paid for. What sort of money should I be looking at, considering I will keep the car for about a year and will get a better deal buying from an auction
  • Omega starting problem 2 May 2001 (Forum)
Just to complicate the mystery, it only seems to happen when I go forward into parking spaces (i.e. rarely) and has never happened when I reverse into one. This may, of course, be an utter red herring. Anyone got any clues? I suspect fuel vapourisation, but don't know what I can do if it is.
  • Mondeo Sluggishness 23 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Has anyone got any other ideas what it could be. We are thinking that it may be the engine management or the fuel supply. Can anyone shed a light on this? Thanks, Kev
  • Diesels 'pros an cons' 28 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Pros   The first big benefit of a diesel car is that they actually use less fuel. You could save a massive 30% throughout the year, purchasing significantly lower amounts of fuel than your typical petrol car. That’s why the diesel engine is often considered to be the economic friendly choice.
  • 2008 Volkswagen Polo 1.4 SE - Engine judder when at idle 5 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Compression check OK. Suspected injector number 3 sticking. Took to my local garage, agreed that fuel injector number 3 was the problem. Replaced and also full set of spark plugs done. No other problems noted. I had my air filter changed as it has always been a little smelly when putting the air con on.
  • P4 SU carburettor flooding puzzle 4 Sep 2010 (Forum)
On the subject of the new nylon float (new brass ones no longer being available) it is getting late and I can't get my head round whether or not fitting this will alter the level of fuel in the float chamber. Presumably it will be of different density to the original brass version; will it therefore displace more or less fuel in the chamber thus altering the level or is it simply a matter of the volume of the float setting the level in the chamber, this presuming new and old are of similar dimensions.
