  • Land Rover 6 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I want to swap my Citreon Synergie for a Land rover Discovery as we have just bought a caravan and need some decent pulling power. ( No jokes about caravan owners please) I am looking for a 2.5 Diesel but they are as rare as rocking horse excrement. Is there much fuel consumption difference between the 2.5 diesel and the 3.0 diesel? Any one got any tips on Land Rovers or anything I should look out for before Start to harrass poor car salesman? It will not be a new one by the way looking around £4 - £5000 for one Cheers Martin
  • Old diesel tuning 9 May 2006 (Forum)
Would I need to inform my insurance company (this assumes no parts are changed). Can it even be done? Would it positively or negatively impact the fuel consumption? This is, of course, all hypothetical. :-) Cheers, David.
  • Car running costs spreadsheet 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
t=13782 ) there was some discussion of spreadsheets to calculate car running costs by entering mileage and fuel consumption. Did anyone come up with the perfect spreadsheet as a result of this? I know DavidHM had one at the time. If anyone has such a thing I'd be grateful if they'd send it to me. I'll update my profile to include an e-mail address.
  • 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.0R 5 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Has anybody on the forum any experience or better still own a 2006 2.0R with the 160 bhp engine. How reliable are these vehicles and are they really so bad on fuel economy????? I have checked J D Power survey for 2005 and the Forester came 42nd and the Impreza 49th, with no mention of the Legacy at all. I thought these cars were extremely reliable so how come they feature so poorly in this survey.????
  • Emissions Quick Fix - 1999 VW Golf 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi Im having emission problems with a 99 golf. Brought it to fuel injection/emissions specialist. Was charged £1250 to replace ecu, map sensor, O2 sensor and CAT. Worked ok for a few days but has failed MOT again on emissions. CO of 0.78 (allowable is 0.3).
  • 95 Mondeo 1.8 Zetec timing 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
This petrol Mondeo has an automatic gearbox. Due to persistent pinking not cured by various attempts by DIY, main dealer and independent (fuel filter, vacuum leak checks, new air mass meter, new EGR valve, new ECU! etc) the next step is going to be to check the timing. However Ford have said that they no longer sell tools and the manufacturers approached so far do not supply one for locking the crankshaft in position on the Zetec engine.
  • Huge Explosion 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My wife and I could only imagine that an aircraft had crashed as over time there were more, smaller, explosions. By now very wide awake, we turned on BBC News 24 to hear eye witness reports that a fuel depot near M1 J8 has exploded. Does any BRer no more?
  • 1990 Audi 80s Auto Central Locking Failu 3 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I had an air leek on the fuel flap locking mechanism, now the pump isn't working. My Haynes Manual says if the bi pressure pump unit (located right hand side of boot) runs for 35 secs (which it did) an internal control unit will automatically turn it off.
  • Cat damage 29 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Is it likely that the cat damage occued as a result of the drive home or the high revving - which would have put far more unburnt fuel into the exaust and cat?? Look forward to some opinions!
  • Taxi No Brainer 16 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Any taxi drivers out there that could shed any light on this decision? I am looking at the fact that it is petrol, and I think auto, and wondering what sort of fuel consumption he is going to get with that about town? I really need to ask him .....
  • BMW 525TDS SE Auto 14 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I would like to hear from any owners of this particular model as to how reliable are these cars, and whether it is likely to give much problem (if so, what are the common faults) Also, will the car be likely to drink more fuel than the suggested manufacturers mpg figures with 160k miles on the clock? Does this car sound like a good buy? Many thanks
  • Renault Laguna engine problem 26 Jun 2005 (Forum)
It makes sense except that I am sure that I read a post saying that one went on a Megane and it was undriveable. If it is an individual coil gone, I can't understand why there is not a load of unburned fuel blasting out of the exhaust like a Red Arrows display team. Anybody had a similar problem?
  • Lost car key 1 May 2005 (Forum)
I have ordered a lock set to replace the old ones (they have not arrived yet). However I was going to put some fuel in it and released that I havent got the key! Any suggestion? Thanks
  • 100mpg 30 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I bought an Honda Insight last month and it is the most amazing car - the technology makes most modern cars seem outdated. The main benefit is the fuel economy. I can regularly average 90+ mpg over my 90 mile commute and last week for 22 miles on the motorway averaged 103 mpg between Wigan and Preston going North on the M6 (which is by no means flat!)
  • VW Golf starting probs 25 Apr 2005 (Forum)
It has been put on diagnostics straight after the problem and there are no fault codes. Have tried replacing the fuel pump relay as suggested by a mechanic but it still does it. Any ideas....? Thank you
  • VW Golf Mk2 1.6 Auto choke(1988) 23 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi mileage though in good order, its now using a lot of fuel - having previously been very frugal! I've replaced "O" ring in inlet manifold (completely knackered)and autochoke does now get hot when running. I suspect wax stat and/or Pull down lever! Any advice on how to determine the more likely ?
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2.2 HDI Diesel Additive 15 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I was out for a short while this evening, during which time I filled the car with fuel. Shortly afterwards, as I drove home, the multifunction display flashed up a message for a few seconds. It said that the diesel additive was at minimum. It only displayed the message once. Does anyone know what this is referring to?
  • Rover 800 series 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Comments on longetivity and repair costs welcomed. Only doing about 3000 miles PA max with this so fuel costs not an issue. Don't want to keep breaking down though and power is important. Many thanks in advance for any help................. Regards
