  • V40 - really that bad? 12 Dec 2002 (Forum)
As I pay each new maintenance bill with the words "well there's nothing left to replace now" I just know I'm asking for trouble. (now you see why I chose "No Dosh") I have my eye on a 2001 V40 S 1.9TD. It's has 60k on the clock and FSH (volvo). The dealer is asking £9.5k but obviously I'm going to push for a deal. Now I know HJ has his views on V40s..... what I need to know is did Volvo improve matters with the 2000MY enough to make this car a worthwhile buy?
  • Volvo 850 22 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I did consider a 1998 Passat & the Volvo V40, but the scary reliability stories put me off. Can anyone offer advice as to the wisdom of such a purchase? Nice 850's of that age seem to go for between £4,000 at non-main dealers, and £7,000 at main dealers. Many thanks in advance.

  • Omega/Continental tyre question! 24 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Hi All, Does anyone have any bad experiences of Continental tyres on the Omega. My fronts (235/45 ZR 17's) are suffering from an unusual tread wear pattern on the inside. The tread pattern seems to have some tread blocks work more than others - odd though it might seem. This was pointed out by a Vx dealer to me and would explain some strange vibrations that I've experienced through the 'wheel.
  • Cooling/radiators etc 23 May 2002 (Forum)
As you can imagine, the temp. gauge, which normally sits below a 1/4, shoots up to 3/4 way (sometimes above), and the electric cooling fan(s)kick in. But sometimes the temp stays up there for a while, until I start driving quicker again. What would be the best thing to do when the road is clear? get up to high speeds again quickly (to get more airflow over radiator), or let the temp come down before hitting the loud pedal?
  • Speed traps 21 Apr 2002 (Forum)
for a speed trap to be set up because ?those @!#$ motorists are speeding down our street threatening our children?s live?. The police investigate and if there seems a basis to the complaint they do set up a speed trap eventually, and guess what? 70/80% of the people caught are locals including some who requested the speed trap (they check!).

  • M6 J18/19 SPECS 5 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Regular M6 users will remeber the SPECS were in almost the same location about a year ago and Cheshire Plod boasted about 1000's of NIPs being issued. I mention their re-arrival just to alert you that when approaching this section of the M6 be aware of possible potential heavy breaking by the vehicle in front once these are spotted.

  • Spacious, reliable, low cost estate? 5 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Short of buying a Transit van, or taking two cars each time, I?d interested to hear suggestions of a suitable low cost vehicle to acquire, it?s a five hour 300 mile round trip to uni so reliability and economy are important too!

To cure it, so he said , he apparently swopped the leads around on the car and revved it hard..This made the engine pop and bang and produced lots of smoke smoke out of the exhaust !!!!

  • Mini Cooper S Coupe - Second hand car problems from purchase 30 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Would your advice be to reject the vehicle as I am feeling worried something has happened in its short life which is not surfacing? MINI COOPER S COUPE YE12GCY This letter is to complain about service I have received from Mini Crewe following the purchase of a nearly new Mini Cooper S Coupe and to explain that I expect Mini Crewe to provide appropriate redress under the SoGA 1994 and the SoGC regulations 2002 under which you are legally obliged to sort out the problems due to the vehicle being of unsatisfactory quality.
  • Warranty claim / conflict of interest for garage 31 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I am minded to wait and see what they find and if they dispute there is a problem and then advise them I will: 1. Get another of the manufacturer?s garages to give me a second opinion (third if you include the first garage?s prognosis); 2. Mention I believe there is a conflict of interest and that I will advise the Manufacturer of this situation. 3.

It was my choice and my risk. I?d welcome suggestions as to the sensible course of action now. I love the car, and it?s hugely useful to have the size at the weekends. But, I don?t need it. I can?t extend the lease term or reduce the 35k/year mileage I don?t need, I?ve checked. I could hand the car back, it might cost me £500, but I?
