s a black car so they seem to show. I?ve tried hot water & sponge, and non-abrasive kitchen cleaners, but there always seems to be some left on. I?m trying not to scratch the surface of course, so I?m being careful. -

Hi , I have a ford mondeo mark 3 1.8 zetec petrol with 86,000 mls on clock , a while ago the engine light came off and on now and then but is now on all the time, the car is guzzling oil and I think a slight lack of power. Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 2.0 Noise from rear 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi, a colleague has an auto Focus 2.0 petrol that has now covered 86,000 miles. It has recently started making a droning noise that starts at 30 MPH and gets slightly louder as the speed increases, it seems to be coming from the rear of the car, and probably the OSR. -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 1996 1.6e Faulty clock & temperature display 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Background This 1.6e RT Auto is a great car - has done >60k mls and is well looked after. Problem The outside temp display next to the clock started to read 30-40degC and ended up at >50degC. Then the clock and temp display went black. The fuse is OK as it covers other instruments. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 2003 1.8 Power steering problem 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have had my Vectra from new and it has now covered 31000 miles. Recently the power steering has developed a fault. When the vehicle is started from cold or is say just ticking over the power steering is not working and it is like driving a car without power steering, when the engine has some revs on and has warmed up the power assistance improves but it is not as it should be. -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 1998 2.2DT Cambelt failed after 4000miles 20 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Had cambelt and kit replaced in late Feb 08, car did 4000 miles and then the belt failed last week. Garage claim that the rubber damper in the camshaft pulley failed and this allowed the belt to slide off the pulleys and rub away against the covers before finally failling. -
SEAT Leon II (2005 - ) - 2005 1.9 TDI Surging/hesitation at constant thrott 20 Aug 2008 (Forum)
As I drove along it alternated between feeling like it was being held back and then picking back up to what it should feel like at a constant throttle i.e smooth. The car has a full SEAT service history, has covered just over 30,000 miles and was serviced 600 miles ago. It still accelerates as it should, just this strange hesitancy on a constant throttle. Anybody got any ideas on what it might be? -

Subaru Forester II (2002 - ) - 2.0ltr 2002 Cam Belt Change 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Recently bought a nearly six year old Forester auto (non turbo) with only 6,600 miles on the clock. The car has been serviced by Subaru every year (having covered around 1,000 miles / year) Now, looking at the service book, the cam belt should be done at five years or 60K miles. It was last serviced Nov 2006 with 5,684 miles on the clock. -
Gravel lorries 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The issue is , when they are loaded ( usually badly , i.e unevenly with a hump of gravel right in the middle - the load should be evened out ) and driving UNCOVERED , our cars are in grave danger . All kinds of shrapnel flies off them at speed - a windscreen on a following vehicle cracks at 60 mph and anything happens .... What galls me is that these lorries are now fitted with ' boom ' style covers , all the driver has to do is swing over a large arm and the tarpaulin secures the load ? -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2003 Gt Tdi 150. Sluggish at low revs. 1 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, I've recently bought privately a 2003 Golf Tdi 150. It has only covered 48k miles but seems a bit flat in the lower rev ranges and blows a little bit of white smoke. The car was laid up for a couple of months before I bought it as the owner was away in the services and I wondered if this has anything to do with it. -
Smoking while at a petrol station 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Filling up today at the pumps (helping to increase BP's profits once more), looked up and saw a guy sitting in his car outside the shop, quite happily puffing away on a fag and casually flicking the ash to the ground. Got me thinking: (a.) How often do other Backroomers see such a thing? (b.) Was it as dangerous as I thought - o.k. the ash might cool quickly by the time it hits the ground, but the ground was still covered from the elements - so any excess fuel wouldn't be washed away as quickly as if it wasn't?? -

Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9 dci - EGR Valve clean or replace. 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
When I declined, they said it might just be sticky and need cleaning but they don't do that. They just replace it. Are they trying it on do you think? I've only just bought the car 4 months ago from a Renault Dealer with a years warranty. Of course, Renault say this valve isn't covered by the warranty because it's a "component"! What do you reckon Honest John? s -
Franchised bodyshop or insurance recom? 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I had an accident today where a foreign lorry pushed me into the central reservation, resulting in serious damage along the offside of my SLK. THe lorry carried on driving, so basically it's going to be my insurance that covers it. I have 2 choices in getting it fixed, either use a Merc bodyshop, or use an insurance-approved (Privilige) bodyshop. The latter comes with a free loan car. The former requires a quote, then an assessor visit, resulting in at least a 2 week delay before the repair can start. -

Insurance Claim Advice 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I recently had a costly collision with a foreign LHD lorry in this country (lorry pulled into my lane and hit my rear passenger side, I had a witness and as it happens the police were nearby and so helped me collect all of the drivers details). My car is waiting to be repaired and I will have to stump up the excess (£400) when I pick it up, I hope to recover this because I have legal cover and I?m claiming it as uninsured losses. The big BUT is that the lorry driver is from a non-EU country (Romania) and I have been lead to believe that it will be nearly impossible to recover my money.
