  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 - Replacing gearbox. What's the 4 pin plug for? 29 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I'm in the middle of changing the gearbox on my fiesta as the old one had alot of miles up on it and was graunching and popping out of gear. I bought a low milage gearbox , but now I have my own gearbox out next to it I notice that looking at the front of the gearbox from my car, there is a large 4 pin plug there that the replacement box hasn't, it just has a blanking plate.
  • Minimum part-ex deals - just a con? 11 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I've noticed many similar 'deals' in the past and have usually dismissed them as a gimmick, assuming that the price includes a healthy profit margin - even if the punter's old banger is sold for £100 scrap...... Has anyone actually bought a car under a similar promotion? Did it feel 'genuine' (for want of a better word)? If it's just a 'con', could you extract the same price from the dealer - even without the p/x?
  • Peugeot Partner Combi (2001 - 2004) - Pugeot Partner Combi - Buying a Demonstrator 27 Nov 2007 (Forum)

  • Alfa Romeo 166 (1999 - 2005) - 2000 TS clutch change 20 Oct 2007 (Forum)
    If someone can recommend a reputable specialist elsewhere who is considerably cheaper I might be able to travel! {edited to include year of car in subject header}
  • Ferrari sold in my Honda dealers !. 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
A salesmen later explained that they were asked to sell it by a football players agent. It went for £120,000, a small premium over the new price I was told. The car was only 4 months old and had only 2 yes two miles on the clock. Must have been owned by a rich footballer that just wanted to own one for the hell of it. It was in the showroom for just one day.
  • Ford Explorer Firestone Tyres 16 Mar 2007 (Forum)
This is an old subject rearing it's head. I've recently bought a 2000 model Ford Explorer from a non-Ford dealer which is still fitted with Firestone Wilderness A/T tyres. I recall somewhere that Ford were offering to replace all of these 'regardless of age or mileage' due to the earlier problems (ie deaths) that were experienced.
  • how to replace a ball joint? mk3 Fiesta 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I'm thinking I'm gonna have to hammer it out from the top but the drive shaft is in the way to get anything to it. Help would be very much appreiciated, as I'm now stuck with a car in bits that can't even be towed to a garage cause I can't get it back together...
  • squeeking 206 20 Aug 2006 (Forum)
this problem is due to i think speed humps because now everytime i go over one my 206 has this dry creaking sound from the front wheels as i go over them and then creaks from the rear wheels when they travel over it, is this a fault with the car or something drying up or what? it sounds if im pushing a 1920s old fashion pram! how embarrassing it is when people turn round to see me driving ps its a 2000 model 206 1400 engine with only 60k miles. thanks any advice or simular problems from anyone and how can i stop this annoying creaking sound?
  • Paintwork warranties 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Am I right is assuming that the rust I've identified falls under the 3 year warranty unless see-through holes appear before April 2008? This is disappointing - my 10 year old Astra with 131k is virtually rust-free. In the 1970/80s Japanese cars used to succumb to the demon rust very quickly but I thought they would have sorted that out by now.

  • Consistency of MOT Testers? 24 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My old banger failed an MOT a couple of months ago and I declared it sorn as I was in no rush to fix it. Anyway, Now I've got it done, but don't want to go back to the same tester as I had a disagreement with him.
  • Rubberneckers 8 Nov 2005 (Forum)
and swerved into next lane and all traffic came to a stop; after a couple of seconds everything moved off. The reason? An old VW camper van was on fire on the southbound carriageway. It had obviously just happened as there were no police and not even a tailback on that carriageway. Now I appreciate that Discovery driver was braking to avoid the car in front and the concertina effect due to reaction times had taken place, also that it is human nature to look at such incidents.
  • 406 slight vibration 4 Sep 2005 (Forum)
On my recent auction purchased 406,I have just done 1500 miles on a round trip into France, and unfortunately, the rear horizontal link bars had to be replaced while I was there,as the old ones had expired. The idea was to get back to Britain and have the bars replaced here.Anyhow..... The car still has a slight vibration to it,insofar as it lasts about 3 seconds, and repeats every,say,5 seconds at speed in excess of 60mph.
  • Where are all the FIATs? 18 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Most car makes seem to be represented on this forum but we don't hear much about Fiats. SWMBO is pestering me about changing her old Toyota, so far we have narrowed the choice down to another Toyota, maybe a Yaris, or a Renault Modus (my favorite), or a Panda 4x4.
