  • Headlamp washers MOT fail 30 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I've noticed that most versions of the German marques (A4+, 5 Series+, and Mercs and Volvo-who  think pioneered headlamp wipers and SAABs) have headlamp washer/wipers fitting as standard. Why are the Germans and Scandavians so keen on this accessory? Volkswagen seem to shun this although a fair number of Seats and Skoda seem to include them. Are headlamp washers that effective? I understand that they only operate when the headlights are on.

  • DSG gearboxes, CO2 and fuel consumption 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone explain why? Obviously one's gear-changing habits should change between a petrol and a diesel, but surely Volkswagen could take this into account in the programming of the DSG 'box?
  • Anybody seen or bought one of these VWs? 12 Apr 2009 (Forum)
In June last year there was this report:- A hailstorm in northwestern Germany damaged up to 30 000 vehicles at a Volkswagen plant, causing losses that could amount to ?100m, a spokesperson said on Friday. His remarks were in line with a report in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, saying that on Sunday, hail the size of tennis balls slammed into 30 000 new cars parked at a factory in Emden and at a port in the city.
  • Which manufacturers offer best "goodwill" . 5 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Those who followed my recent VRS turbo saga will know that the Skoda factory paid for my turbo (one year out of warranty and 35000 miles) which was pretty impressive. I couldn't believe it when the service manager at the dealer who did the repair said that Volkswagen would have been much tougher (same company). Sadly some manufacturers are not quite as impressive so I thought it would be interesting to ask, in backroomers experience, which manufacturers have been supportive and which have not.
  • Belgian Jobs down hole - no more Golf 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Volkswagen AG said Tuesday it would stop production of its Golf model at its Belgian plant, shocking workers and government leaders who fear more than 3,500 jobs could be lost. Company officials said the German car maker will move all production of the Golf to plants in Mosel and Wolfsburg in Germany as part of plans to cut production in Western Europe due to falling demand.

My 54 plate VW Golf TDi has been juddering when accelerating in 3rd gear with the engine warm since i brought it a month ago and Volkswagen yesterday have diagnosed it as clutch judder or could be the dual mass flywheel but won't know for certain till the gearbox is out. If it is the dual mass flywheel do i demand them to change the clutch at the same time or just go with the flow??

  • 'Soft' paint 1 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Anyone else with a Volkswagen group car noticed how prone the paintwork is to stone chipping? My SEAT Ibiza (otherwise admirable) is peppered with stone chips to the extent that I may eventually need to have the bonnet and front wings resprayed.
