£4.5k, which family car to keep long term? 2 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I really want a diesel, as I love the power delivery and fuel economy, but I am scared of buying because of the dreaded four (DMF, DPF, Injectors and Turbos). I really don’t fancy a gutless petrol that’s bad on fuel either. I don’t have a spare £1000 in my back pocket for a diesel repair bill either. -
2005 3 Series 318Ci - Clutch Problem BMW 318Ci 4 Jun 2015 (Forum)
If it needs a new clutch unit, what's the labour time? Does a new clutch mean a DMF too? Could there be any other issue? Thanks! -
Ford Focus 1.8tdci - Juddering at low revs light acceleration 18 Feb 2013 (Forum)
It can happen in any gear but seems to be more noticable uphill. I am not getting any feedback through clutch so hoping it wont be the DMF and as there doesnt seem to be any lag or loss of power when accelerating I am hoping its not fuel injector or EGR. I just thought it wanted to get going but am now starting to think its not normal -
VW GOLF GT TDI MK4 - VW GOLF GT TDI CLUTCH SLIP 20 May 2011 (Forum)
The clutch in my Golf slips in all gears but 1st and 2nd. It has had a new DMF and clutch. The clutch was difficult to bleed out. (apparently) The pedal sometimes drops during the night and when it has the clutch does not slip. After a short time it begins to slip again and the peddle settles to its correct height. -

Diesel Cars - HJ's Car Reviews 14 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I've been thinking of buying a diesel although my annual mileage does not justify it but i enjoy the power delivery. However I am put off by the problems logged with DPF, DMF, blown turbos, injector issues etc. and going for the prestige German marques or Japanese does not make for any better reading! Is it the case that many people have relatively little problems and those who do make a song and dance about it? -
Any - Holding the car on the clutch on gradients 3 Jan 2011 (Forum)
They are not driving autoboxes as they don't have brake lights on, and the cars often roll backward a little before trickling forward again -- which they wouldn't do if they were autoboxes in 'Drive'. Seeing this got me thinking about DMFs and failure rates. While I'm sure that these complex components DO fail prematurely, abusing them by holding cars on the clutch on a hill isn't going to help at all. Isn't this what the handbrake is for? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Risks of buying high mileage TDCI 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
However, looking through threads on here and elsewhere, it seems there are lot of complaints about the reliability of these engines even beyond a fairly modest mileage. All the horror stories about injectors, fuel pumps and DMFs are starting to put me off. My question is whether the abundance of these stories is down to a genuine reliability problem with the car or simply because of the large numbers of them on the road. -
Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 2002 2.0 Known problems 15 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Are there any common problems that you are aware of on this motor. I am sure you all know about the DMF on the mondeo that cost a small fortune to rectify, and i dont want to walk into that trap again. Has this car got a cam belt and are there any issues regarding changing the belt. Are there any componants that fail on this car on a regular basis. -
Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - Petrol vs. diesel 11 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Do we take the "guaranteed" savings a diesel will bring after three years, and gamble on the engine and DMF lasting well, or do we go for the simpler petrol engine and running costs without the prospect of big surprises? -
