• E46 330D Touring 2001 - E46 330D Touring spluttered to a halt and now will 12 Apr 2013 (Forum)
My thinking is the P1640 Internal Control Module (ROM/RAM) Error only comes up when the engine has been cranking for some time and may be coming up due to the battery voltage dropping off and the ECU saying im not happy about this glow plug error well that aint no big thing but shouldnt stop the engine from starting. So next plan is to change high pressure pump as im fast running out of options unless anyone on here can suggest somthing to try any help would be greatly appreciated
• Peugeot 206 1.4 Zest - wear and tear of a central door locking system? 24 Jun 2011 (Forum)
If that's true, I would have thought the program might have become corrupted by a spike or static on the power line.  The kind of thing that might have been caused by the battery having been disconnected for example.  Alternatively could it be down to a problem somewhere in the wiring harnesses? Has anyone got any comments or suggestions?  Is it possible wear and tear could have caused these problems or am I right in suspecting it is likely to be due to something the bodyshop has done?
• Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec SE 1999 - Starting issues & Occasional stalling when cold. 24 Nov 2010 (Forum)
One occasion where it failed to start I sprayed WD40 on all ignition connections and then it started, but have had no success with this method since. I'm stumped as to what could be the cause - was thinking maybe replace battery but if it starts first time when its been sat around for a day or two and then sometimes wont after an hour it cant be the charge level, so was thinking maybe some sensors somewhere are to blame?

• Renault Espace (2002 - ) - 04 2.2 acceleration probs again - sell? 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
upon switching off the engine, there has been a very loud and alarming noise which sounds not unlike a Boeing 747 about to take off (the cooling system?) which seems to be going into hyper-mode. I have had the battery, turbo-charger, brake discs and pads replaced on this car, and now I'm told (by Renault) that I may spontaneously combust any day unless I replace the cam belt (as standard procedure) I have done 44,500 miles.
• Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - Another Dealer Servicing Rant 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
On the return of the car, they had charged for fuel system and oil flushes at a total of probably £30 (waste of time and money). The bonnet catch and bonnet, door and hatchback hinges had seen no lubrication, the battery contacts had not a lick of Vaseline or similar on them. The rear seat back had not been moved so the seat belts could not have been checked. The service indicator had not been cancelled. The car interior was still a pit, OK not their job to rectify and the tax disc still not readable.
• Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - '99 1.6RXE Rough idle + Car won't rev up 14 Sep 2009 (Forum)
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP - I'M BANGING MY HEAD AGAINST A WALL WITH THIS... Background:- The car got a flat battery because the rear interior hatch light was on for 3-4 days in error so I called the RAC to get me going with a jump start...then the trouble started...prior to the RAC man visiting the car was fine.
• Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.8 Alarm may have killed car 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I asked if they could have done anything to upset the car and they said than they did not disconnect the battery, but they did adjust the 4 rubber stoppers across the front of the car that the bonet rests on becasue they had trouble opening the bonet. I sometimes had the problem, but a bit of jiggling and it was fine.
• Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 01 RX4 1.9dci - Turbo & Clutch Problems!!! 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)
In an e-mail she wrote: "Feb 2008 the car lost power while we were driving it, when we stopped, we checked it and couldnt see anything wrong, so we started it again, the pedal sucked itself to the floor and hit full revs for at least 15 minutes, we tried to turn it off and even unplugged the battery but it continued, there was a lot of smoke and we thought it was going to blow up, the fire brigade were callled! Thankfully it stopped on its own, probably because it burnt out of oil ect.. The garage it went to said the turbo had gone it would cost at least 3000euro to replace and then they could tell us what other damage had occured because of it doing what it did!
• Car Service Due at 70k. help/tips/advice 23 May 2005 (Forum)
I had always been serviced upto 50k (with a stamp) I know he has maintained the car, but i dont know to what extent and how much work has been done, how many oil changes. He done stuff like a new exahust and new radiator and new battery. I purchased some new sparks, and have got the oil filter and air filter, and probaly a fuel filter. He has told me that the majour service is due, belt change (getting done on Thursday) but im thinking its been servied upto 50k with stamps and i reckon he may have carried out the work, so why not flush the engine when doing the oil change to be on the safe side.
• 1986 BMW 318i Starter Motor (E30) 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
It's had a new exhaust fitted literally in the last month or so and it looks like it's had a radiator at some point and the battery looks fairly new as well and they left me a Kenwood CD player in it as well. The only problem with it is the starter motor - sometimes you can get in and turn the key and it will turn over and fire great but other times you can get in and turn the key and the starter motor will stick in which case you have to turn the key back and try again and it usually only stuck once and possibly twice and would fire up at the third attempt and it's been like this for years ever since the wife of the friends of ours supposedly couldn't start it outside work and (we think) drove home with the starter motor engaged although we're not sure and ever since then it's been an intermittent sticking starter.
• Emergency kit in the boot 24 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am ignoring survival rations. My own answers produced this list. 1. The car just stops 2. A flat tyre 3. A flat battery 4. A blown bulb 5. Need a tow for a short distance 6. Exhaust box dragging on the road 7. A leaking water hose So from the above list what is needed? 1. Reflective tabard, warning triangle and a torch. 2.
• Vauxhall corsa S Ecoflex - Car turning just not starting 28 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Wouldn't get passed 60/70 just felt completely Different. The next day it wouldn't start. Breakdown came out tested battery etc didn't really know what was wrong with it. He did say something about the timing chain and it could be choked/missed a tooth? Took it to a garage and they changed the coil pack, spark plugs and camshaft sensor.
• Any, AFAIK - Colourful Ethnic Starter Switch 3 May 2016 (Forum)
I wish I'd cut these a bit longer, but I was being eaten at the time.   Step 5 : Test on car, connecting one crock clip to battery+, and the other to the starter solenoid terminal. WORKS!!      Dunno for how long though.

• Vauxhall Zafira A - Ecotec 1.6 - turns, fires, immediately cuts out. 1 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I also turned the engine by rotating a camshaft while it was apart (didn't remove timing chain). Battery was disconnected the entire time. So - it all went back together without a problem. Turned ignition, engine cranks fine, catches, then almost immediately cuts out. Same thing everytime. No errors when doing pedal test at this point.
• Auris Hybrid HSD - Auris HSD-older avg mileage or newer high mileage 2 Mar 2015 (Forum)
My local Toyota dealer currently has a couple of Auris Hybrids that are within or near my price range: - 2010 T-Sprit with Sat-nav, 4,500 miles above the average for the age, Silver, £8,999 (12 months warranty, the MOT & tax expired 3 months ago so I'm guessing it's been sitting on their forecourt for that time & the battery had gone flat when I had a look at it. Has 'first generation' sat-nav) - 2012 T-Sprit with Sat-nav, 16,300 miles above the average for the age, 'Island blue' £9,999 (which is over my budget) (2.5 years warranty, has small dent in one of the doors, updated sat-nav compared to above- Possibly "Touch & go", though not sure of advantages).

• Mazda 3 2008 - Service interval reset. DPF lamp flashing. 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
2) With a length of wire / cable ( approx 2 metres) connect pin "E" - the top right one, when the locking tang receptical is on top- to a good earth ( I use a pair of locking grip pliers on the battery negative terminal) 3) Get in the drivers seat and close all doors ( including the tailgate). This is the "step" that caught me out ! 4) Do not start the engine, but switch on the dash using the key.
