FIAT Punto - Sale of Goods Act claim - advice needed 10 May 2011 (Forum)
In accordance with their advice I authorised the work to replace the cambelt. With the service, cambelt change and some other bits (brakes, battery, coolant temperature sensor), plus the VAT, I spent nearly £800, which did smart a bit, to say the least. I wanted the car to last and be reliable though for my wife to use for commuting to work. -
Ford Mondeo 1.8 TD - Mondeo 1.8 TD Mk2 (99) - engine fans never come on 24 Apr 2011 (Forum)
If so, is the connector I need the brownish one on top that needs to be squeezed to remove? I'm going to test the relays in a bit with another battery and a multimeter- anything in particular I should be looking for or doing? My gut feeling is that it's a relay or a connection somewhere, as if the radiator feed pipe is warm, that means the t/stat is working and letting hot coolant enter the radiator, correct? -
Honda Civic vtec e 1996 - Heater fan kaput! PLEASE HELP 5 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Current solution is to use a little supplementary ceramic heat fan running off a separate 12v battery pack, Duck-taping hot water bottles to the dash next to the windscreen and only driving during the brightest and warmest part of the day but obviously this is not practical as anything other than an emergency measure. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 1.6 Engine Warning Light & Car Judders 28 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Managed to drag it back home 20miles and stopped driving it until a friend could take a look. They did the following day, only for the problem to have disapeered. They disconnected the battery and reconnected which removed the warning light, and it drove fine again. Then the weekend it has reappeared again in full force. Car barely moving, extreme loss of power and engine warning light flickering. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 02 2.0 HDi low power after hitting flood. 23 May 2008 (Forum)
Its obviously delivering fuel, more than before, yet I have really low power in the lower revs. Overtaking is now a memory!! Tried the disconnect battery thing to reset ECU, all this got me was an "ENGINE IMMOBILISER FAULT", a tow trip to the garage and a 100 euros to reset. and its still the same. -

Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1995 turbo diesel rough start 8 Jan 2008 (Forum)
hi, wonder if any of you guys can help me with this, i know these cars pretty well but seem to have ran to a dead end. basically from fully cold ie. left overnight then the car is a pig to start and when it does it smokes heavily with grey fumes for 5 minutes or so. the glow plugs have been replaced yesterday and i can confirm they definately work by putting them across a battery and they glow brightly at the tip, one was dead so it now catches first turn of the key but you need to keep the accelerater pressed down then rev the car to get it to fire properly and settle to idle, it's like a massive flat spot when you first start it which makes me suspect it's suffer from fuel drain back overnight, priming the bulb doesn't make much difference and ive replaced the leak of pipes and fuel filter seal as they are the most common points of air ingress. -
Fuel stabiliser 17 May 2007 (Forum)
My Hornet 600 only gets used for about two thirds of the year, and having owned it from new in 1998 I am by now very conversant with putting it to bed for the winter with whatever fuel happens to be in the tank. Come the spring, and with battery having been kept charged with an Optimate, it's just a matter of cranking the engine for a few seconds until the float chambers fill, then off we go to the fuel station to tank up and thereby dilute the old fuel. -
Ford Ka - plug removal, +engine light 24 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Finally, can anyone tell me if the engine management light can be reset by simply disconnecting the battery on these engines? Or do Ford need to stick an electro-gizmo doodad on it to do this, for a silly price? Thanks for any advice. Jim -
Global Garage - Discovery Channel 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The engine is also 30 years old and is found at a huge engine supplier in the middle of Dhaka. The engine is 'bench' tested in the street. A large battery and a pop bottle full of fuel is all that's required - it fired first time. The engine is fitted by 5 locals placing it in the engine bay, there is no engine crane and of course no need for shoes - it's too hot! -
306 HDI 90 T reg - ECU/Imobilisor?? 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I would appreciate any advice on the following so's I now which garage to trust... 1.Car wont start one lunchtime. Not battery or fuel and this is first time this has happened. 2. I towed it 1st garage who tried a new ignition aerial with no luck, refitted the original and said take it to better equiped garage. 3. 2nd garage removed ECU and sent away to Bosch for diagnostics which reported back saying ECU needs repair to fuel pump, however they can't do anything as secondary fault reported which might be imobilisor. 2nd garage thought car was imobilised due to 1st garage 'playing around' with ignition aerial. -
Motoring in the cheap lane. 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I admit to being a bit chuffed to have picked up, what I consider to be a bit of a peach......it's astoundingly clean, having been cossetted, garaged, serviced every year, and has :- Central Locking, Electric windows, Power steering, Sunroof and runs as sweetly as you can expect it to run. It's had a recent battery, stainless exhaust and (premature?) clutch. Admittedly the radio's on the blink and the air conditioning........OK, so it hasn't got air conditioning. I know I'll be told that low annual mileage is bad for a car but it starts, runs and cruises at 70 without a problem and is rust free. -
Pug 306 1.8 XU7 emissions control? 12 Oct 2002 (Forum)
solutions such as giving it a good blast, but today, I came across something interesting: On removing the ECU from the battery tray holder it lives in, to to replace the clutch cable, I noticed that it has a large, slightly domed rubber circluar insert in one side, akin to what a section of tennis ball would look like if you took the 'fur' off. -
Volkswagen Passat - Newly purchased car and not the legal owner. 7 May 2021 (Forum)
This was when it got more confusing.. That night I went to the shops and on returning the car wouldn't start. I assumed it was a flat battery because it had been on the womans drive for a while before being sold. I left it and walked home. The next day I drove there with my girlfriend and we managed to jumpstart it. I drove it about 20 miles and it drove perfectly. 3 hours later I drove it another 20 miles home. -

Corsa 2008 Diesel 1.2 - EGR Valve, Fuel Injectors the list goes on.... 30 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Dealership are now telling me that the alternator needs to be replaced before they can do any further diagnostics on the vehicle. I have been informed that this is nonsense and they can charge the battery up temporarily to diagnose, but what I want to ask is Does this sound normal - EGR valve, glow plugs and now alternator ? or are they taking the proverbial. -
Ford Focus 07 Sport - Help!!! Possible Fan belt snap? 25 Sep 2016 (Forum)
This Friday I had noticed a loud what I would describe as "rattling" sound was coming from my car. I was only doing a local drive, 30mph maybe, when the battery light flashed up, power steering went and the temp gage flew to 120+ on the dashboard. I was very close to home so tried in every effort to try and get home without PS until I heard a very loud screaming noise and I pulled over. -
Renault Scenic - Help me value my Scenic? 11 Apr 2015 (Forum)
-We've owned the car since 2008, we're 2nd owner. -Never let us down! -Current battery is kaput so I'll fit a new one for sale. Jump started car today for first time since September, strated first time. I'd be super grateful for any input on the valuation. I'm guessing the inability to test drive the car (due to SORN) will be a limiting factor. -
Ford Mondeo 2006 Mk3 2.0L diesel 130bhp estate - Struggling to start when warm, conflicting advice! 27 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The car has recently had a replacement cooling fan, replacement alternator about one week ago, replacement battery about 1.5 years ago and many other things, I am therefore at the point now where I am reluctant to spend large amounts of money to keep it on the road. PLEASE HELP!
