  • VW Polo GT problem 15 Sep 2005 (Forum)
when you finally get going the car can whilst driving jerk and jump, you as a passenger or driver are pushed forward as the engine effectively stalls and relights itself. Things I have done: I changed the fuel filter, last time was a couple of years ago and they had fitted it backwards! it's now correct. I also opened the fuel tank and changed the fuel pump filter screen. This car has two fuel pumps one in the tank and one under the car both appear to be working.

  • MG - Roadster 1970 1.8 running problem with classic car 18 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Checked TDC marks on pulley and case are correct by moving piston 1 to TDC, checking rotor pointing to No.1 lead and checking timing marks aligned - all ok. Fuel 1. Removed fuel pump. Cleaned (was not really dirty), checked points - cleaned points (slightly pitted), pump run on bench. Looks and sounds ok. No filters in pump. 2. Attached clear tube after filter before carbs and run pump into container - plenty of fuel coming through although quite alot of air bubbles mixed in. 3.
  • 306HDi-Knocking after new fuel pump 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Background.... 2-3 miles into journey home thursday the engine management light came on, car lost all power and died when I put the clutch down to roll to a stop. Car would not restart. Recovery guy suspected the fuel pump in the tank as no fuel was entering the fuel filter and a common hdi problem. Had a new in tank pump fitted friday and mechinic (pug specialist) said it has a rough idle when cold. (it generally does when cold in cold weather so thought nothing much of it).
  • BMW 3 Series - Losing fuel rail pressure on high side 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Hi all   I have a 2008 UK N53 325i with 48k, symptoms are extended crank of 3-6 seconds, but always fires after being left overnight or for a few hours, occasionally and almost imperceptible stutter/misfire, clears after changing from 1st to 2nd gear on first start of the day. I've had plugs pulled after leaving overnight and no evidence of fuel on them. No classic symptoms of bad pumps or injectors once driving, no drop in performance. As they were required had NGK plugs and Bosch coils fitted in last 6 months. Garage has said there is a 2AAF code, never had EML.
  • Ford Focus Estate 1.6 TDCI - Will regen of DPF stop fumes in cabin? 24 Nov 2017 (Forum)
When  I asked the mechanic for an explanation of how those two things could cause 'nasties' to escape the engine and then get in via the vents he said in both cases that it was a matter of unburnt fuel, but didn't elaborate. Would like some feedback as to whether getting an artifical regen on the DPF is likely to help, and some explanation, perhaps, of how unburnt fuel can find its way into the air under the bonnet.
