  • Motoring tour of Britain - a flawed idea? 1 Jun 2009 (Forum)
It would also provide some useful expierience in my still-young driving career. My question is, is this a flawed notion? Would the reality be the stress and drudgery of driving on England's roads? Perhaps the appeal of this kind of trip belongs in a bygone age?
  • Caught drink driving 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I am currently studying in Scotland in 4th year, but i am from France. I came here from France with my car. Yesterday night, while driving my girlfriend back home after a night out I was caught drink driving with breath test a 0.79. I'm feeling a bit down at the moment and the court will be on the 27th of February. As a student I don't have that much of money.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.25 Sqeaky auxiliary drive belt 2 Feb 2009 (Forum)
My Fiesta makes a characteristic squeaky sound from the auxiliary drive belt. I've heard other Fiesta's making the same sound and a Focus that drives past my house every morning does the same thing. I've replaced the the tensioner bearing, the idler and the water pump, though not all at once, so can't rule these out completely.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Fuel consumption urban figure 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My Ford Focus is a 1.8 petrol. According to the owner's guide I should be getting 27mpg for urban driving. Does anyone know how the car was driven to give this value i.e. would it include high revving through the low gears and periods of idling, and would it include driving up hills. The thing is since I had an oil change I have been getting 2-4mpg less on urban driving.
  • Rear wheel drive or Front wheel drive ? 12 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Sunday musing. Most mass produced cars have been FWD for years. The reasons seem to be mainly to do with manufacturing expediency. There are notable resistors...
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1993 1.9 banging noise from rear 1 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Also i have bounced on the towbar and rocked the car and i can't make the noise happen but when i drive it the banging starts by just driving down the road, i don't even have to drive over a bump for it to bang. Anyone got any ideas as it's driving me mad?

  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.3 Endura - Low speed noise - drive shaft? 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
He suggested it could be to with the gearbox but it dosn't really seem to be any specific gear and its only low speed. I am thinking drive shaft or gearbox problem? Any ideas? The car is driving normally.
  • Define Clean Driving Licence 6 Apr 2008 (Forum)
At the age of nearly 51 I'm giving up doctoring on health grounds, taking a medical retirement and then will look for a low stress job. I actually enjoy driving and even in a city environment I still find it relaxing, so this is the area I will be looking for work. Employers ask for a "clean driving licence". Does this mean no prosecutions showing from any point in time or just no current prosecutions?
  • Driving should have smiles-per-hour! 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Modern classic cars, out and about, bringing recent motoring history back to life. Forget about driving quickly. Its not miles-per hour that counts these days, its smiles-per-hour! -- Colin-E
  • Liability for rear end accident? 30 May 2005 (Forum)
However my wife was driving and she chose instead to drive over the rabbit (wheels straddling it). The rabbit was ok. My question is, if I'd been driving and had stopped dead, and someone rear-ended me, who's fault is it?
  • Driving abroad with Xenon lights 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Now it seems I have to visit a dealer then dazzle everyone as I drive to / from the ferry port (100+ miles) or else find a dealer at the ferry port who is open when we return at 9.30pm ... unlikely ... or one in France! Any suggestions?
  • Mondeo clutch problem 9 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I have a 2000 (old shape) Mondeo which has covered just under 60000 miles (manual). The clutch has started to feel odd and is slipping when the drive is taken up. It doesn't feel like normal clutch failure due to clutch plate wear (and I would be surprised at this mileage as my driving style is light on clutches). When I say odd it seems that when you release the pedal it appears as though the drive is taken up quite slowly even if you release the pedal instantly (makes it very difficult to move into a small gap but virtually impossible to stall!).
  • Short Journeys & Gentle Driving 12 Feb 2004 (Forum)
IIRC, it was in a recent Technical thread that someone stated that short journeys and gentle driving (generally in small cars…mine is a Jazz) were the catalytic converters worst enemy. My driving comes mainly in this category (apart from a 60 mile Motorway trip in the Grandpa Lane once or twice a month).
  • Fast motorway driving - Good or bad? 19 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I am aware that my fuel consumption at this speed is ridiculous, but i am wondering about the long-term effects of driving at a constant speed at high revs for an extended length of time.
  • Two Wheel Drive Danger 12 Dec 2003 (Forum)
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of former Formula One driver Eddie Irvine, after he was caught speeding on a scooter with no licence and no insurance, court officials have said. The 38-year-old was arrested by police in London on July 24 this year for driving at over 30mph on a scooter through the city's Hyde Park, with no scooter licence and no insurance. The former Jordan and Ferrari racing driver, who won four Grand Prix in Formula One, was charged with excess speed, no insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with licence.
  • Audi 100 s4 fuel consumption 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Hi I have just bought a 1994 Audi S4 Avant Auto, it has been chipped to stage 1 level and has 270 HP, it is a great car, fantastic to drive and fast the only trouble is I am only averaging around 15mpg, for a mixture of town and dual carriage way driving, I do drive the car quite hard but my wife drives it mainly and very sedately and the mpg still does not increase much at all.
