  • Registration Cert for car not bought 19 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The original dealer was not very happy, in fact they were very rude to me. However today I have received a registration certificate for the car on which I originally placed a deposit. The document states I acquired the vehicle on 31 01 2007 - please could somone give me some advice on this. Obviously I have not got the car and at no time signed the declaration stating I had bought the car so obviously the dealer has forged my signature.
  • uk car discount - excellent service 30 May 2005 (Forum)
Just had delivered a new Primera today. uk car discount, as seen on this web site, came up with such a good cost to change I had no option than to swap in my recently purchased two and a half year old Primera for a new one. The process has been absolutely hassle free.
  • Selling car - questions 10 Feb 2005 (Forum)
£3.5k - £4k? Also, if I cancel my insurance policy midway through the year (having sold the car) do I still have to pay the premium (I pay monthly) for the rest of the year? The motive behind all this is the car making me feel old before my time. I've decided to travel to work on the train, and use the proceeds of the Passat sale to buy a fun 'weekend car' - probably a Spitfire.
  • EVO Magazine - getting worse? 15 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I have a subscription to EVO magazine but are thinking of cancelling it due to it basically getting boring. It used to have a Buying Guide feature and a few ads for great cars, but they've both gone. All they seem to feature are supercars and track day cars - not a lot of real world value cars. In fact if they do have an features on real value cars they seem to show the same old ones.
  • Others, remarkable trips/cars- insights-positive 3 Sep 2008 (Forum)
After initial friendship and contact on this site nearly twenty years ago " the time had past, it seemed wrong to ask" Unbelievable? Very old time British, perhaps.. Their time was up too and he knew it. This Gentleman of at least 75, had driven his 10 year old `Marina` pulling a caravan out from England, with his wife confined to the caravan.
  • Recommend me a used car 1 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Requirements:  - large enough to fit 4 people and boot space for suitcases and a dog - enough torque for swift driving & comfortable for motorway cruising - cheap to maintain (insurance group, road tax, fuel efficient) - max budget 15K, but ideally below 14K, and up to 5 years old...? Current car has been great - averaged 48mpg, zero road tax, spacious and a good engine with plenty of power. However it seems that used Volvos really aren't as cheap as they were when I purchased my V60!
  • Portable car player 5 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I have an old VW 2005 Passat estate and I want to update the stereo so we can all connect our android and apple phones. It's a radio and separate cd which I understand is double din and when I looked the cost of a decent replacement plus fitting  was a few hundred I'm  quite happy to have a portable touch screen car player so no fitting.
  • Vauxhall Insignia - Is it likely I've been scammed? Head gasket went? 2 Jun 2024 (Forum)
During selling my old car, one buyer called me to the boot while the other was at the bonnet. When I went to the front, he had just finished doing up the coolant cap. He then asked to take it for a spin. Thrashed it then opened the bonnet.
  • Hybrid Engines when cold 6 May 2023 (Forum)
I was having a conversation with a friend of mine a couple of days ago. Both of us are old enough to remember the advice never to rev a car too hard until it was warmed up.  I have always stuck to this and tend to treat my cars very well. However, with a hybrid there's sometimes very little control over the engine revs whether it's warm or not, and we were discussing whether this would actually do damage in the long run.
  • 2003 Ford Focus - Should I be worried about this MOT Advisory 6 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Hi,  I'm looking to buy a car for my wife as her previous one developed some faults and had to be sold as Spare or Repair. So found this really old reg car but wonderful MOT History, seller seems genuine too ... well she just got the car's MOT done and messaged me that it passed straight away, I was glad but just checked  the MOT and saw this advisory that I've never seen before, wanted to know if it's something I should be concerned about (something that can fail MOT in future etc) or if it's a cheap fix ... need some advice ... following is the advisory, Nearside Rear Upper Vehicle structure is deformed but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced Superficial damage to outer sill (6.1.1 (a) (i)) Any quick help or advice would be great,  Thank you
  • All - navigation destinations 28 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Surely it would be simple enough to have an industry wide format so that all GPS systems can export / import the 'Name', 'Lat', 'Long', 'Post Code' details irrespective of the old / new model of car.  That way it would not matter how an individual system actually uses the location data - they would just convert them to a usable internal format.  Every car now has USB / Bluetooth access,  so you could store it on your Smartphone (or whatever) and transfer it when you were ready
  • Hyundai Genesis - Cheap luxo barg 8 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Good afternoon all. Having recently separated from my wife I'm thinking of getting myself a new car. Most will know I had a 10 yet old Suzuki sx4 that I've owned from new and it's been an excellent car never letting me down.  I left that car with my wife as it's cheaper to run and insure so not to cost her to much to run.

  • Suzuki Baleno - bought new car - main dealer - aircon fail 5 Sep 2020 (Forum)
daughter went and bought a 3 year old Baleno from main dealer.  9 or 10 days later I'm in the passenger seat, boiling hot day, so I try the aircon.  (Daughter knows nothing about cars - didn't know what aircon even was) Waiting, waiting - air doesn't get any colder.
  • Golf Bluemotion TDi - Fire -Volkswagen warranty worthless! 20 Oct 2019 (Forum)
My 2 year old golf suddenly caught fire in my drive on returning from my local town. I barely had time to rescue my dog from the back before the car burst into flames. I called the fire brigade but by this time the vehicle was a burnt out wreck.
  • Strange Hillman auto box 7 Jun 2019 (Forum)
My dad used to hate driving it as he would say it was like driving a car with no gears and did not feel in control This was defiantly a automatic car and not something modified for the disabled Anyone remember these... Does anyone have one?
  • Children damage and responsibility question 1 Apr 2019 (Forum)
BUT if you happen to look our the front window and see a 3 year old dragging his bike up the side of your car on your own drive you are of course going to be concerned!  Where do I stand legally if a young child damages the car as I guess there is a certain age of responsibility and it isn't under 7!
  • Porsche - The Road to Unhappiness - Buying a Used Porshe 15 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Despite all my doom and gloom warnings about the "Black hole" of sports Car ownership, my 32 year old son is in the market for a "cheap" (circa £5k), 986 Boxster as an occassional weekend car (he has a modern car for everyday commuting). Given that he is hell bent on ignoring all his father's warnings, I was hoping to get some advice as to what to look for , where to look, how to buy, and what factors to consider (age, mileage, service history etc).
  • Leon 2016 FR 1.4 150hp Auto - Seat Leon 2016 dsg noise when pulling away 18 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I think it MAY be clutch related as it does it until the clutch feels fully disengaged e.g. once the car has began motion.  I'm going to book it into the main dealer (warranty call) but I know how these things can go, backwards and forwards with the good old "couldn't find anything wrong guv"!
  • Volkswagen Golf V - Turbo replacement?! 9 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Car went back to them and I'm told that the engine had been remapped (black smoke solved) and had a fuel supply issue (hesitation solved).. I have my suspicions as to whether the car actually ever needed a turbo given it still had the same issue once "fixed" the first time..
