  • Ultimate Tacky Car ! 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have previously posted that I think the BMW 5 Series with the 4 headlight "rings" on was one of the smartest sights on the road at dusk. However, I saw one today and they had obviously replaced the standard bulbs with blue ones - 4 blue rings on a late model BMW 5 series - I could have cried there and then!!
  • Oil change frequency 22 Nov 2003 (Forum)
In his column, HJ is always insistent that oil should be changed well before 9K miles. This then puts him in conflict with the boffins at BMW, whose service interval indicator system bases its advice in part on a sampling of the oil. In my case this gives a service interval of about 13K miles. So where should we place our trust? HJ's caution and experience, or BMW's techno-wizardry?

  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class and similar - Premium hatchbacks…. 28 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I am in the nice position of looking forward to buying a virtually new premium hatchback. Shortlist is Merc A class, BMW 1 series and Audi A3. Are there any I’ve missed? Want an auto, preferably diesel and nice quality interior. Not a fan of small petrol engines so ruling out 1.3 and 1.5 engines in Mercedes and BMW. Audi 1.5 seems a better prospect as a petrol so not ruled out.
  • BMW X5 (2016) - Mileage indicator for brake pads (front) replaceme 15 Feb 2023 (Forum)
My X5 (2016) had had 3100 miles until front brake pads replacement indicated on the dashboard for quite some time. Brought it for a regular servicing at BMW where front brake pads were confirmed to be at 7 mm.  Immediately after I collected my car the same day, the reading changed to 1200 miles till replacement (ie minus almost 2K). And the mileage has been decreasing with the miles driven ever since (it stayed at 3100 for a long time).
  • KIA Sportage BMW Honda Volvo etc - Dislike new cars 19inch wheels privacy windows 23 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I am looking at buying a new SUV type vehicle as more comfortable to enter and I like raised position. Looking at several different makes (Honda, Kia, Hyundai, BMW,Volvo etc,) it seems that unless you go for the basic model, there is rarely any option except to accept large often 18 or 19 inch wheels and skinny tyes. Thus less comfort than say 16 inch wheels and more risk of damage to tyre and wheel if hit a pothole.

  • Audi, Land Rover, BMW etc make designers redundant 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Audi, BMW, Land-Rover, Jaguar etc are making car designers redundant. Apparently they are no longer needed. Any of the staff can now create a new model by just increasing or decreasing size. To differentiate between models the font and rear lights will be changed a little while acrease line along flanks will be moved, up, down, angled or delted to make side views distinct.

[endif]--> I have just purchased a 520d SE automatic tiptronic, 2007 June with 32K on the clock the car has been fully serviced at BMW and has an enhanced service package running for 5 years. When I run up to a stop say at traffic lights and leave it in "drive" there is a movement from side to side as if the engine is missing or somebody is pushing the car from side to side, it virtually stops if I put it in "Neutral".
