  • Giving it best 19 Feb 2007 (Forum)
He said that as he was lying in the road feeling his bruises he thought it was time to stop biking. He thinks people don't drive as well as they used to. There have been two or three such incidents over the years, usually involving some car-driving wally failing to see him although he is a big fellow on a big, carefully-driven bike.
  • Primera 97 1.6 Preventative Maintenance 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have had a Primera 1.6 Si for 3.5 years/60K miles now. Little bit under powered up hills but pretty good/comfortable to drive and does 40 MPG on mixed driving. I replace the filters and plugs every 20K and the oil and oil filter every 6-7K. Always use genuine Nissan parts. Too cheap not to. It is up to 127K now. For continued reliability is it worth changing The manual gearbox oil.
  • New Model Honda CRV 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I recently took the above vehicle on a test drive and found it much improved on my current Honda CRV Sport (2005) and largely concurred with the tester's enthusiastic views given in the motoring press and had more or less decided to place an order.
  • Rattely Fiesta - Should I be concerned 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I've booked the car in for a service and the mechanic reckons its just the oil that needs changing badly (but he hasn't heared the car). The engine drives fine and there is no knocking or thumping noises. Could this be the camshaft and if so is it a major job?
  • Audi A4 TDI 130 Problem 1 Jan 2007 (Forum)
So much so, its is becoming embarrasing as I see the smoke in the rear view mirror day and night. The strange thing is that the car (done 41K miles), drives perfectly, doesn't appear to have lost any MPG or performance and has just had a major service with new air filter. The car does a minimum of 150 motorway miles a week plus other driving so I can't see that it can be too sooted-up.
  • Freelander fuel comsumption 22 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I know these are not fuel efficient journeys, however this fill returned 23.5mpg. My usual is 26 to 27 and I have never exceeded 28.5mpg. I don't drive aggressively and actually try to drive conservatively. What Car lists this car in manual form as having a combined fuel consumption figure of 37.2mpg. Allowing for mine being an automatic, am I right to be disappointed?
  • The Real Hustle BBC4 yesterday 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
-men from the programme dressed up in a high-vis. jacket, and waited just inside a parking compound. In drives a gentleman with his Audi. .hands over his car(and house) keys to the fake attendant, takes a receipt (also fake) and the con.-man drives off?it then transpired that there was a sat.nav unit in the glove compartment, with the driver?

  • engine quiting. Ford Puma 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Driving home today the engine died in my 1.7 ford puma. while driving along. Rolled to a stop. Engine wouldn't start, left it for a few minutes when it started again. Drove it home and sometimes it would seem to stop for a fraction of a second and then start backup as you could see the dash lights go thru their start up sequence and power would drop for a little bit.
  • Park and forget.. 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It was finally reported as abandoned by a resident (two neighbours had assumed that the Ford parked outside their homes belonged to the other). This amused me, but then I recalled, many years ago, driving up to London to submit a painting to an exhibition. Not wanting to drive through central London, I left my frog-eye Sprite at Merton station, and carried on by train. At the end of the evening I caught a train from Waterloo to Salisbury, and only after frantically searching for my car at the station car park, did I remember it was at Merton.
  • Mazda Renesis Training 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Which would make the four hour drive each way a little less than rewarding. Does anyone know what this event includes? They held one last weekend in Leicester, would appreciate if anyone had any idea of what was going on, would let me know so I can decide whether or not to go up.
  • Advice Please - Car Rental Abroad 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I hear of people coming back home to find their credit card ramped up with spurious extra charges. I will obviously check vehicle carefully at pick up and ensure previous damage is noted before I drive off. I will also ensure it is inspected when I take it back. But what about excess insurance. Can I pre buy it rather than use their (probably) exhorbitent insurance? What insurance do I need to drive the car?
  • 1998 Scenic 1.6 - Dead Autobox? 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The car is a 1998 Renault Scenic 1.6 Auto (I know, the work of the devil) which yesterday broke down and had to be trailered home. The symptoms were, whilst in Drive (or 1, 2 3) the engine would rev but the car wouldn't move. If left for say 30 mins it would drive for a couple of minutes and then cease moving again. Breakdown man apparently said to try changing the transmission fluid otherwise it's a new gearbox job.
  • Sat's DT - handbrake "failure" !!! 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It is up to the driver to ensure that the car is securely parked, how could the car roll more than a few inched without the driver being aware of it yet alone across three lanes of a motorway! Why-oh-why were they not prosecuted for dangerous driving, not taking due care, wrongful use of the hardshoulder etc etc? And then to admit that they let that car roll down their drive way demolishing a wall in the process, thank god a child was not playing in the path of the out-of-control car!
  • Vauxhall Astra 1.7TDI (2003) misfiring. 25 Jul 2006 (Forum)
There does not seem to be any one thing that makes it do it allthough it possibly seems to be worse on & after motorway driving & also when the weather is hot. I have replaced the fuel filter & put injector cleaner through it but with no luck. Does anybody have any ideas as to what it may be & what I could do the cure it.
  • M8 Specs cameras 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
So you therefore have some cars sticking to 40 mph and others weaving their way in between. Makes for some interesting driving! Although I would not in any shape or form try to test my theory out, there is part of me that says I wonder if these cameras are real? Unless you know someone "in the know" then these cameras will do the same job whether they are real or not!
  • Ford KA burning smell!! 15 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Last night she drove it home from work (less than a mile) and the actual wheel hub burnt my fingers when I touched it! It seems to drive fine, and the brakes (recently serviced and passed MOT) show no sign of fade, or squeaks, squeels or other unpleasant noises. Doesn't appear to pull to one side or other when driving. I'm going to take the wheel off - what should I be looking for?
  • Which Old Car? 14 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Not particularly interested in cars and don't believe in spending a lot of money on them. They seem to break down anyway however posh they are. I drive an Astra, N reg, at the moment, never really liked it and I've just spent £425 getting the wretched thing through its MOT. On the plus side it does really good mileage but I do need something bigger for work and it would be nice to drive something less rattly.
  • Brussels to Gelsenkichen. 10 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The last minute plan is for my son and a friend is to go ( with tickets) and watch the match at Gelsenkichen. The plan is to go by Eurostar to Brussels, hiring a car a driving the rest of the way. He has been advised by locals, while working in Brussels, that they all drive east cos the trains are not a good option. The Eurostar part of the trip is also fixed. So. 1.
  • Striking distance of Disneyland Paris 10 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I would rather eat my fingers than pay to stay in some logo strewn 'hotel style experience' on site at £200 a night so can anyone tell me what it's like to drive there from surrounding areas - is it the traffic hell I imagine it to be? Can anyone suggest a real hotel within say an hour's drive? Can anyone suggest some better lines to try on my wife to persuade of the folly of her argument?
