What to do with a damaged/repairable van 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I did price all the necessary (mostly) 2nd hand parts on ebay on the day it happened (my sliding off the road in the ice) and the total came to £220. The parts needed are a front bumper, n/s headlamp, n/s front wing, inner wing liner, wheel arch trim and lower support beam for the radiator. All of these, including the wing, are bolted or screwed on, so not really that much work. The only actual work needed is where the front wing is attatched, the supprting member is bent in out of shape but i think with one of those sliding hammer things, that could be sorted out fairly easily. -
Renaultsport Clio 200 - Renault paint issues 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The outcome was that, the paint finish was poor and both front wings would need spraying along with the rear o/s quarter to get the car back to a good standard. So roll on September 2012 when the car would go back to the same Renault approved bodyshop that carried out the first repair. When I went to pick the car up I was totally gob smacked. -

Farewell chug a chug Diesels - you served us well. 13 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Maybe not - as long as it moves along the road in its grim little petrol engine way and the eye pod plugs into the radio. Here it comes... with it`s anodyne buzzing and augmented central locking type electro magnetic inlet valves. No springs. The next test bed for the public? -
I Have a Question - Volume 298 [Read Only] 11 Jul 2009 (Forum)
(I`m tempted to do this to be honest) Of course the issue is with the `market place seller` but being relatively new to all of this I would welcome your advice. In particular (for my future purchases) is the two items from one seller a risk it`s better not to take. Leaving Amazon out of it - are scams run along those lines with private sellers and what can you do about it. Thanks oilrag -
The £6 Car Wash - hand valet - good value 25 May 2009 (Forum)
I wish I could remember car wash prices in past decades because the last time I really used them was to put the Old Mans (white) Victor 101 - through one of those revolving brush washes in the mid to late 60`s. I remember it actually rocking the car if you were not `square on` to the track - talk about a soft touch! Another time I saw a cars wiper complete with arm caught in the overhead brush and being pounded against the roof at around one bang per second... -
Route advice please - Calais to Lot-et- Garonne 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
and onto the A71 and onto the free A20 and exiting somewhere around Brive depending on where we are staying.. It?s usually quite straightforward. However the tolls are creeping up along with the cost of fuel (petrol Mazda 6 2.0) and hotels.. I?ve often thought of heading out of Calais on the A16 past Boulogne then onto the free A28 to Rouen. -
New or Old shape Volvo V70 ? 9 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Thinking about a a vovlo V70 Need an estate car, and something that will tow a BIG 4berth caravan..... Article in Car Mechanics s Magazine about the new shape V70, how low spec ones are gettin down toward £4K ( I don't think I'd buy one that cheap though) I am prob wanting to spend £6-7K maximum. Diesels seem extremely overpriced considering they are prob only £1K more when new.... s/h it seems ot add about £3k to the price. -
Sweet justice 21 Nov 2005 (Forum)
t been snowing and below zero. It?s a shame I suppose, that innocent parties get involved in someone elses crass stupidity and reckless behaviour but no sooner had we passed the scene than they were all at it again. Dogs learn quicker than that. -
Golf Lost Steering Servo 24 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I returned to my car, MkIII Golf, on Friday and noticed the O/S/F wheel was in a puddle but assumed it was water. No such luck, as soon as I pulled away I realised I had no power steering so parked up and looked underneath. Yep a perforated high pressure pipe from the steering box to the N/S rack was to blame. -
Potholes and Road Safety 29 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Becuase if this they are more likely to rectify it (especially as we approach the end of the financial year when they have to spend money or lose it)\' \'Top idea. You can find your councils\'s number in the phonebook. Give them a buzz and ask for the highways department\' I am sure we are all aware of the many places where there are potholes and defective road surfaces, so if we all did something by making a phonecall, perhaps more would be done to make the roads a better place. -
Don't buy a Toyota - sorry ! 29 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Into Toyota Cambridge - a very helpful dealer, BTW, unlike the others I used, and they diagnosed a gearbox fault - probably worn bearing/s. Cost - £300 plus whatever is wrong with it as they have to strip the whole gearbox down. Letter to Toyota UK to see if they would help even in part, as, although out of warranty, the only reason the fault is there is because their dealers wouldn't fix it under warranty. -
Peugeot 406 Executive Turbo 22 May 2003 (Forum)
Any comments on reliability? What age would I be looking at getting for £3.5k or under at auction? 99T perhaps? I've seen S reg ones on Autotrader for as little as £3k. I'm told Peugeots figures are unreliable. Where can I find accurate, indepedant performance figures for the 406 range? Is it worth considering or should I just go back to the predictable but safe idea of a 1.9TD Xantia SX, on a S plate? -
Just done CBT! 18 May 2003 (Forum)
I had my CBT booked for today, as the weather had improved sufficiently (well, it was last week!). Of course, s**'s law dictates that it had to throw it down today, but that didn't spoil the fun. Despite the fact that it threw it down, and that I was wobbly as a weeble at low speeds, nothing could take away the fact that it was all really good fun. -
Disciplinary action - advice sought 31 Jan 2003 (Forum)
She served a customer in the queue who had already been rude to another member of staff and proceeded to the next. Suddenly the first customer started shouting and complaining about my wife\'s failure to pack her bag. My wife had never been told that bag packing was compulsory and had already started serving another customer. The truth is she panicked and didn\'t know what to do. Whatever she did, she thought one of the customers would be upset. -
Any economists out there?! 26 Oct 2001 (Forum)
There has been a number of recent emails highlighting the collapse in used car prices and I am grappling with this conundrum as to where it is all going to end?!!! 1. HJ?s comment that a lady looking at an £3k N reg 80k clio could have a had an 80k w reg at auctions 2. Mr GTI looking for £7k plus when in reality no one will buy it for more than £5500 3. Car are getting more durable in terms of finish and core mechanics but more complex and more expensive to fix as they get older 4. -
Skoda Yeti - My Yeti(s) 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The Cross Climates are again wearing evenly and are at 5mm, after 25 k miles. The car generally returns low 40's MPG (mid 30's in the depth of winter) and the remap (Shark stage 1) has had no discernible negative impact on fuel economy, despite boosting power and torque considerably. The in-car tech is now looking rather dated, but the DAB and Sat-nav have proved useful (and cheap to update) and a big (64 Gb) SD card carries enough music to keep all occupants entertained. -
SEAT Alhambra - Rejecting a vehicle SOGA refund 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Upon driving to work the next day I noticed the power fault again on a steep hill ( no engine lights but losing power almost like limp mode) also the air conditioning hasn't been fixed and neither has the dvd player. I spoke to the seller and asked for s refund and he has told me the fault had been fixed and was fine when test driven. I returned the car to him on the Friday (his earliest convenience) and again asked for a refund as I was rejecting the vehicle under SOGA which he refused as he couldn't find s fault.
