MOT and Irish Driving Licence 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Two days ago I was caught on my mobile while driving. I have to pay a fine and hand in my MOT, Insurance and licence to the police station. However when I found my MOT certificate this morning I saw that it was out of date by 10 days. In addition to this I have an Irish Drivers licence. -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 98 1.5D - Can hear water while driving 8 May 2008 (Forum)
Hi I can hear a lot of water running around in my car when I'm driving. It sounds as if a large amount of water is rushing from the front of the car to the back and vice versa depending on whether i'm reversing / going forward/ going up or down a hill. Is this normal? -
Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 2001 1.0. Aux drive belt changing 4 May 2008 (Forum)
I want to change the aux drive belt on my 1000cc Yaris. It has aircon so has an extra long belt. Reading the manual it says that the top engine mount need to be removed. Now I am not bothered by anything mechanical, but these days do not like getting the fingernails dirty ! -
Driving glasses 27 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I'm trying to buy a pair of plain, non-prescription driving glasses with polychromatic ('Reactolite') lenses. I can find any number of expensive designer glasses, but I'm not interested in a silly name, cool or fashion. I just want glasses that can live in the car and do the job. -
in-car FM transmitter with USB flash-drive slot 7 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hi all I would like to buy an FM transmitter that can read mp3 files from a USB flash-drive, so that I can listen to podcasts etc through my car audio system. Several makes exist, but I have not found any glowing reviews for any of them. If anyone reading this has such a device and is happy with it, I would be interested to know the make and model... -
Autotrader drives Top Gear's Toyota Hilux 4 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Stuart Milne visits Toyota's HQ to drive the Hilux that took Top Gear to the North Pole, http://tinyurl.com/33x6wl What I like from the article is, Shockingly, it's almost road legal. With numberplates and a tax disc, all which would be required to get it through its MOT would be tyres free from studs and the dark tints removed from the front side windows ? -
Cheap new driver motoring 20 Jul 2007 (Forum)
SWMBO has recently passed her driving test and doesn't fancy driving our spanking new car and would much prefer a smaller, cheap runabout she can use to get some driving hours under her belt. So if I fork out £500 on a Fiesta/Corsa/ A N Other, what should I look out for. -
Driving Awareness in lieu of 3points? 26 Apr 2007 (Forum)
She was doing 36mph in a 30 zone. The standard penalty is £60 fine and 3pts. Does anyone know about the "Driving Awarenes" alternative? Is it true that you can offer to take one of these (or are they randomly offered??) in lieu of the 3pts aspect? The wife has not received anything indicating this is an option in her letter. -
Is driving when blind dangerous? 5 Sep 2006 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/hfq3u "In his closing submissions, the lawyer told the court: "I don't propose to call my client to give evidence. The question is not whether his driving was dangerous, but whether being blind makes it dangerous." "Prosecutor Peter Love asked Pc Austin if he had noticed anything about Aziz. Pc Austin replied: "I did - he didn't have any eyes, Your Worships."" -
Do you go out for a drive? 28 Jul 2006 (Forum)
When I was a boy (about 45 years ago) I can always remember when my father changed his car, the whole family piled in to go for a drive in the new car. It was also recommended to invite your neighbours over to have a look at it. Do activities such as these still survive in todays motoring climate? -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say. -
overseas reg on 'phone and jumps lights 8 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Merrily on my way home the other night along the A30 I am following a foriegn registered car. The fella driving has his mobile up by his ear and totally ignores a red traffic light and goes on his way. Mobiles and driving are really dangerous but where oh where are the boys in blue? You see so much dangerous driving and they get away with itmost of the tim as far as I can see. -
Sqeaky Astra window driving me nuts!!! 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hi All Any suggestions appreciated. The drivers window on my astra is driving me nuts. It is sqeaking like mad. How should this be lubricated? I have used WD and spray grease on previous cars- this is an Astra coupe which has pillarless doors. For this reason I am a little reluctant to throw just anything at it as if I degrade the seal I will be getting wet when summer ends! -

Good Driving Experience Day 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I've got some vouchers that I can use to go on a driving day. Quite fancy either a supercar / Ferrari day or maybe a single seater. After going on a rally day a couple of years ago and being really dissapointed at the whole experience, I was wondering if anyone can recommend, a) a good venue and b) a good overall experience. -
getting paid for test drive 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I've received (in the post) an invitation from Citroen to take a test drive. Apparently, if I accept the invitation, I'll get £15 worth of M&S vouchers. Seems like a good offer to me! I take it other Citroen owners are all getting the same? (And do other manufacturers make this sort of offer?) -

If somebody is being investigated for some sort of alleged assault, shouldn't somebody else be investigated for drunken driving or isn't it against the law in SA? -
Ford Mondeo TDDi Drive Shaft 30 Aug 2004 (Forum)
While waiting for a new driveshaft replacement, the mechanic has just replaced the broken bearings to the old driveshaft that was hit. Now, I am driving temporarily with the old driveshaft and at 110-140 kpmh, my steering wheel shakes a little. I have brought my mondeo for wheel alignment and balancing but to no avail. Is it due to the driveshaft that I suspect? -
Driving VW Diesels Economically 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Admitedly this was for a six speed gearbox. I've tried this in my Passat 100bhp 5 speeder. I found myself driving generally two gears lower than normal. According to the computer the fuel economy was worse than usual. What is the reasoning behind the advice? -- I wasna fu but just had plenty. -
Buying a LH drive in France 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I wonder if someone can help me. I am moving to Spain in August and want to buy a LH drive Toyota Rav 4. They are really expensive in Spain ( about as dear as here). What would be the best solution if I were to buy a cheap car in France or Netherlands, obviously I want to pay the lowest rate of VAT. -
Driving Licence ~ Minimum age to be 18? 14 May 2003 (Forum)
My daughter, soon to be 17 and champing at the bit regarding driving, rang me at work to say that a number of friends have declared the learner age is to be raised to 18. I told her it was most definitely a wind up and I checked the DVLA website and it confirms that there has been no change.
