• Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - May 06 Diesel 143 - misfire at 1250 revs 26 Apr 2015 (Forum)
  Has anybody any ideas what it could be cause, sad to say I worry they will have me running back and forth. Thankfully it's still under warranty for sixteen months still. I was hoping to keep it for at least four years! Last but not least I did try disconnecting battery all that happened was I got some practice at resetting eletric windows easy enough though!

    Also although I get soapy sludge as well I am told this is condensation due to short miles runs   this can  seem to clear if driven hard    and I  have lost no water in 4k miles so I assume its not cylinder head gasket     This should not be happening on a low miles BMW... or is it cos of low miles and lack of being 'driven' that this has occured ?

  Essentially it's used as a run around for daily short trips mostly but every couple of months we load it up with two children, a ton of clothes and general child rearing paraphernalia plus a large ish dog and take off for a camping trip/visit to the relatives/trip to France etc.

  On my way back after 10 miles the car broke down for the same reason and I had to call the recovery. The recovery team had to tow the car to the garage. They asked me to keep the engine running and move it to neutral gear. During the journey to garage which took 45 mins or so, I could feel some jerks as fuel was still going inside the engine (engine being running). I wanted to ask as their was incorrect fuel mixture going into the vehicle during this time and when i earlier drove it, can it cause unburnt fuel to be left inside and would it have caused further damage like carbon deposits, damage to catalytic converter (near exhaust) etc which might not be visible now but can affect engine performance and failures at a later date.

    I was due to see a potential buyer today, however, when I tried to start the A3 last night, to take it for a run and get some diesel, it wouldn't start.  It tried but gradually it got weaker until I gave up. Bearing in mind that I had a new battery fitted approx. four weeks ago, and that since then I've only run the A3 two or three times, I did wonder if it was the battery, even though it was brand new.

• Combo C 2002/2004 - Combo C Fuel Pump fault after engine transplant 1 Jan 2015 (Forum)
  However we have traced the wiring and determined that the blue/red wire passing through this connector actually carries 12v to the pump, and putting 12v onto this wire makes the fuel pump run. So far so good. But when we connect the 4 connector wires, color to color, the fuel pump doesnt run. We have checked the fuse and is OK. Can anybody watching explain what actually turns on the power to the fuel pump and how the pressure regulation system works.

  It was hesitating for a second, then for another, and went well again.... At higher speed it is more noticable. Feels like when you run out of fuel for seconds. Then run 200 km without problems. Today I started the car after 5 days rest time(I do not use the car too often). The engine started but it was shaking, and when I pushed the throtle it was lagging and shaking even more, with much more smoke all around my garage then ususally.

  Is there anything else worth considering?  I tend to run cars into the ground if possible so like something relaible that is not prone to rusting.  I have no interest in French cars, but would maybe consider a Fiesta as I am surprised at how good my Focus has been.

  last 5 months: the car runs fine when it's cold. After 5-10 miles (not always though, but 3 days out of  4) it feels VERY "nervous" running at fix speed. It's twitching, and pressing the speeder here, I have no power. Pressing the pedal fully down for 5-10 seconds,(during this time, the car is still twitching a lot)  the power comes, often very abruptly.

  My engine mis-fires when idling for a minute or two, but only when the engine is hot. If I stop and re-start the engine, it runs fine again for another minute or two before mis-firing again. When driving, the engine runs perfectly fine and does not feel sluggish or anything. There are no start-up issues either. Looking at the rev counter, it seems to drop (not suddenly) to around 700 RPM when the mis-fire happens.

  My Astra covers about 500 miles every month around town with a motorway run every couple of weeks. It has a full service history. I know nothing about how cars work (and have very little interest in finding out!!!). However I do understand the importance of maintaining them correctly - both cars are serviced when required and the oil level/tyre pressures etc are checked at least every 2 weeks.

  Last week car was running fine, then glowplug light came on during a journey.  Went into limp mode and next day car wouldn't start.  Local garage took it to local diesel specialist who diagnosed that the injectors needed recoding.

    I also couldn't see any signs of dried coolant on the plastic engine tray, either, so ruling out rad leaks etc?  I've also tried bleeding the coolant systems by running the engine at high revs with the heaters on full and coolant tank cap removed. One new thing I did notice yesterday was a build up of brown foam scum around the filler neck of the coolant tank - this is new.

  Here go’s I have a focus 1.8TDCI 2003 and I am having problems with start up and loss of power. What happens is the car starts fine from cold and runs perfectly normal, goes for a good long run and the engine gets up to temp. Then if I where to stop at a shop say and come back to the car and restart it, it would fire up but only just and ticking over very low.

   Honest garage who I've always used without issue I really doubt they did anything though they did seem to run it for quite a while and hard (just making sre it was nice and hot) Failed on: CO2 1.33% HC 2541 (!) ppm LAMBDA 1.21 aside from emissions all OK....  Clearly now needs the exhaust fixed but that's not the core problem.

  hello all,i have a wobble belived to be front end along with a rubbing grinding noise (ie metal on metal) should start by saying its had new bottom ball joints, new shafts both sides although very slight play in one cv as fitted a few months ago, new track rod ends,new bearings in both hubs and all bushes were changed on arms about a year ago with no play apon checking after reading many posts saying drive shafts (not possible) cvs have been checked no noises at all on full lock so have had the car in the air running and in gear anyone who is going to do this safety first (dont want to get run over by your own car) and in turn have stopped one wheel allowing other to spin at speed doesnt matter what side i stop noise is there along with a wobble that can be felt throughout the car which says its not drive shafts so i belive it could be gearbox or diff as doesnt matter on speed what gear acc or braking if your moving it wobbles can any one back up my thoughts as dont want to start pulling it apart to spend more money and not fix the problem!

  I hope someone can give me a bit of advice here please. Every so often my ca\r will not go into 1st and reverse gear while the engine is running, I have to turn engine off, put the car in gear and off I go, the rest of teh gears are a bit of a struggle. Clutch peddle is down to the floor. If I try to put it in reverse while engine is running it crunches like crazy, but 1st gear...not a chance will it go in Being a female driver (hold off on all the comments haha) I'm often told a load of rubbish by garages..Last garage told me it was a knackered gear box so will need a new one and a clutch to go with it or  I probably had air in my clutch cable and to go home and rest a stick down on it all night to release the air...I do have enough intellegence to know my car doesn't have a clutch cable lol .. it's fluid...which is full.

  All my instincts say diesel especially as it has twice the torque and gives more mpg but my question is which is really the cheaper to run? Is the 1.6 petrol enough? I only need 2wd. Realistically except on annual holidays the car will mostly contains 1 person or sometimes 2 and we don't tow anything so perhaps I am being greedy.
