• Ford Focus - Skidding infront of Speed Camera 17 Feb 2016 (Forum)
      Hello, My car had skidded off the road infront of a speed camera. The speed limit was 50, I was doing about 60. I noticed the camera late and ended up skidding as a result of braking sharply. I don't know If I was caught by the camera as it was a "heart-in-mouth" moment and left shaken pretty badly.

  It is a database of all speed camera convictions, upon keying in a registration number, it returns with any applicable camera evidence, giving speed, date etc. It works because I entered our car's registration number and up came the offence when the other half went through the camera on the Toneway in Taunton @ 63mph in a 50mph zone.

  for those who cant follow links, heres an intersting comments from the minister "We have chosen the colour yellow, and are permitting the use of reflective strips to maximise visibility. In time safety cameras across the country will be yellow. That consistency and the tightening of the rules on cameras being obscured and signposted should serve to give motorists plenty of warning that a camera is present."

  It's been raining heavy today and, as a new Aygo X owner, today the 'poor visibility front camera' warning light came up. I don't know what it means/do ??. I didn't even know it had a front camera!! What do I do? ??

  Safe Speed has published its own report on the "side effects" of speed cameras, pointing out that neither road deaths nor the number of people taken to hospital after crashes had fallen as expected since the introduction of speed cameras. Safe Speed said the best estimate of the life-saving benefit of speed cameras stood at 25 lives a year and that if more lives than this are lost then the cameras were "increasing the death toll on British roads".

  Police chiefs were last night forced to urge drivers not to exploit the shortcoming by trying to evade the cameras. The flaw affects the controversial SPECS cameras. Unlike standard Gatso cameras which individually flash a car as it passes, these cameras measure a driver's average speed between two fixed points - which can be many miles apart.

  Like the Hadecs 2, the Hadecs 3 cameras are painted an inconspicuous grey, rather than yellow, causing them to be branded ‘stealth’ cameras. (Critics seem to have forgotten that Hadecs 2 cameras are also grey.) They use a combination of radar and a system that monitors the variable speed limit applying at the time and alters the camera’s operating threshold.

  Just over two weeks ago I was driving along the southern part of the M25 during the evening and saw a distinct speed camera flash in my mirrors while travelling at well over 80mph. I have never heard of speed cameras on gantries being set to enforce the 70mph limit; I assumed they were for lower limits due to traffic or roadworks.

  do speed cameras still have to have the warning signs on the approach , i went past one today ( it was all grey and hard to notice until i was basically level with it) and i didnt see any camera warning signs as i approached, in fact there arent any cause i went by again to check, IIRC from speed awareness course the chap running it said they have to provide camera warning signs AND the speed limit on the particular road concerned displayed on the run up to the scamera is that still the case or have i been had?

  Now the evenings are darker, are we any safer from the curse of speed cameras on the gantries over the motorways? I haven't seen them flashing so much on my daily run around the north western part of the M25. And on the other roads, I've not seen any camera vans aiming to catch evening commuters.

How does the monitor that seems to stick on your rear view mirror work, do you need two cameras one for pointing rear and one down for reversing How hard is it to fit?

  My old-fashioned camera has broken and I'm going to replace it with a digital one. From what I understand most digital cameras have some video capacity but how easy is it to transfer this to a laptop? Is it normally done using the memory card or do you need some sort of USB device and software?

  I was passing a well known Gatso in Whytreleafe Surrey tonight doing a steady 30 when a motorbike came speeding madly past in the other direction. With un-nerving precision the camera flashed as I was well and truly "in the zone". Is there any chance that I will get a ticket and is this a known phenomena? How did the motorbike set off the camera going the wrong way?

  On the A414 from M1 J8 into Hemel Hempstead there is a normal Gatso. They have just installed a CCTV camera about 10 metres down the road from the Gatso, pointing the same way but angled down at the road. Any ideas what it is? It isna't a security camera for the Gatso as it has been angled to point away from it, at the road.
