The dangers of in car technology 31 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Recently, a California Highway Patrol officer and his family died in a car crash when he was unable to stop his Lexus ES350 from accelerating. In New York state, incomplete GPS information has contributed to an increase of commercial truck accidents, which has prompted potential legislation. Charette discusses how these particular stories illustrate the automation paradox--the more human operators rely on computer systems, the less likely they'll be ready to respond when those systems fail. -

Ford Focus saloon (2005 - ) - saloon cars - whats the point..... 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I can appreciate that some of the larger british, german or japanese saloons (Bentley, Merc, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc..) are very nice places to be and have huge boots but what is the point of a Focus size saloon? Other things come into play like does a medium size saloon depreciate more? On the other hand, if less saloon cars are sold does this make them more sought after by people who still buy them? -

How many do you need? 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It's Monday again and the DT Saturday edition has penetrated deepest rural France. I read in DT Motoring that the latest Lexus - described as unmemorable - has an eight-speed autobox and spends its life changing up and down for no apparent good reason. I see many recent cars have six manual gears. Just how many ratios do we need? -
Next Car Advice please 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I want leather, auto, climate and I would like 30mpg average, the 850 did 32 average as I do a lot of m/way work in my 25k miles a year, also I'd like it to last at least 3 years. it's not an easy choice as so much is in my price range, on my short list is S70T5,S40T4,S402.0T,Omega2.5 The advice here seems good so can anyone give any other suggestions, can cars like the Nissan QX, Lexus GS300 achieve 30mpg ? Thanks in advance :) -
25th Anniversary of the Airbag 9 Dec 2005 (Forum)
b) Is there a finite number of airbags to be had before the extra safety protection they offer is marginal? IIRC one of the new Lexus models can be fitted with up to 12 airbags! Just before people get the wrong end of the stick, I think that the airbag is a GOOD safety device that certainly prevented my father from getting more seriously injured from a particularly nasty high speed accident(not hiis fault)last year. -

Hydrogen Hybrid Technology, used for over 50 Years by The Military, NASA, Scientists, Universities and recently Car Makers such as Honda, BMW and Lexus… Guaranteed! For over 50 years international institutions, universities, engineering associations and independent testing labs have been compiling documentation and test results proving that small amounts of hydrogen added to the internal combustion engine significantly reduces toxic emissions, increases engine performance and provides a more complete burn of the fuel resulting in better gas mileage. -

Toyota Yarisl - Something a bit bigger and faster 15 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Mazda 3 Skyactive G 2.0 petrol manual from 2013 upward 4 or 5 doors.. 3. Toyota Auris 1.6 Petrol vmatic manual from 2011 upward. 4. Lexus IS250 auto upward of 2009 The Yaris can be a bit boomy on the M roads at 3000rpm so wanting something as quiet as our Avensis petrol (but maybe not as big). I tested a nice 4 doors 2014 Mazda3 and it is a hoot to drive compare with the bouncy Yaris, how dependable is the SkyActive G system? -
Mercedes E Class estate 2015 - Mercedes DPF problems 23 Jan 2016 (Forum)
The Bluetec versions have a resovoir of additive, which is supposed to help but again different dealers say different things. Will buying a hybrid really help? It's still diesel. Do I really have to buy a Lexus? I want a Mercedes as they are a much softer ride around town compared to my BMW. All help appreciated. -
Ford Taurus - Owners Review 19 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I am sure that cosmtically the Vignale will look good, like the Ford Cortina 1600E. But it will not stand up to anything of similar price that hails from Germany, or Japans Lexus. The build quality I believe will be superficial, and after a few years the cracks will appear. Driving the Taurus is fine, it is heavy and feels very safe, but spirited handling is not a strong point, and the rocker switch to manually change gear in the sports mode is pointless, the switch is placed awkwardly on the gear selector. -
Police trip up - Monty keeps driving (& putting) 11 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The sportsman was accused of speeding at 88mph on the M80 at Dunipace, near Falkirk, on 24 February. Mr Montgomerie was reportedly driving a Lexus when it was snapped by a mobile speed camera on the 70mph road. His trial at Falkirk District Court was abandoned when it emerged officers in his home town of Surrey had failed to serve him with a summons. -
what I should have done New lexusIS 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Dont rely on the PDI inspection sheet my car had several problems even though every box was ticked as checked 3. After collection if you notice rattles from the dash , doors etc advise Lexus at once. Advise them that if extensive repair work will be required to rectify the faults you reserve the right to reject the car. 4. Don't be fobbed off with any old date to fix the faults..the dealers know that the longer you have the car the weaker your ability to reject it. -
Winners & Losers of 2005. 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Within the mainstream cars Ssangyong were the biggest gainers in % terms up by 38.0%, closely followed by Saab up 35.3%, Kia up 18.9% Mitsubishi up 10.6%, BMW up 9.3%,Skoda up 7.9%, Honda up 7.8%, Audi up 7.1%,Land Rover up 5.7%, Lexus up 5.0%, VW up 2.0% & Toyota up only 1.2%. M.Benz were almost static up 0.4% and are now selling fewer cars in the U.K than Audi. LOSERS Lamborghini were the biggest losers in % terms down 56.9%, but the biggest volume drop was Fiat down 50.8%, which makes them look extremely vulnerable. -
Undisguised new Volvo S40 pictures 4 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Well, yes, it is predictable an S60 shrunk in the wash, and the front looks a bit dumpy (may be camera angle, but should look great as a T5 on steroids), but the back is fabulous. Very cohesive use of shape from the rear quarter light back. The instrument shroud is too Lexus 200, and the centre console is fine apart from that horrid metal-look panel. Apparently, the reason for it is to make everything look more '3D', a theme carried out throughout the rest of the cabin which we cannot see yet. -
E-Class/5 Series or A6 - Advice Please 7 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I had always fancied a BMW 528 or a new shape E-class. Whereas my wife likes Audi A6s (she has ruled out Jag XJ6-8(small boot/rear legroom) & the Lexus GS/LS through looks & size). We were looking to spend approx £16k. Looking at HJs comments none of these cars appear fool proof. A couple of dealers near by have the following for sale: 1999/T Audi A6 2.8 Quattro 45k 2 owners sat/nav,air, leather, with NetworkQ warranty for £16k 1998/R Mercedes E300TD Elegance, auto, air, 1 owner 95k for £16k. -
Mini Sony Nav-U70T satnav review 13 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It also doesn't do that irritating thing of trying to re-route you back to the original for miles after it's obvious a new route is better (a la Lexus I'm afraid) Three D map zooms in and out automatically as you approach junctions nicely, and there's a two D one too that shows points of interest etc. There seem to be about a billion of those. -
VW Tiguan - Advice for long suffering back pain in car 10 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I seem to prefer cars with a more chair like driving position. My current car is a 2006 lexus rx400h which is not ideal as on the highest seat setting and with my cushion I have to crink my neck and open the sunroof slide - made do with it but not good for longer journeys. I did sit in a Ford Galaxy and that was great but too large for my wife to use.
