  • Can I get a PCO licence despite my drink-driving conviction? 28 May 2010 (Ask HJ)
Can I get a PCO license despite being banned for drink-driving two years ago?
  • Driving test. 11 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Well, yesterday I had driving test again. Last test was 37 years ago. I went for a hackney carriage / licensed hire test at the local DSA test centre. Basically its the standard driving test with added taxi type manouvres (lots of turning round in the road, and pulling up at the side of the road, with taxi type questions at the end) I did no swotting up, and just booked and went blind.
  • Driving Fatigued 2 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Scenario: It?s been a long day, its dark and you have been driving for an hour on the motorway. You are feeling increasingly fatigued but your destination is only 30 minutes away. How would you react/ deal with this situation? How long have you been a driver?
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - Wheel bearing possibly worn. Safe to drive? 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have a 98 VW Golf estate and I think the wheel baring has gone because I get a humming noise from the back wheels when i'm driving and last time this happened it was the wheel baring. Unfortunatly I can't afford to have it replaced for another 3 weeks and in that time i'll need to drive 1500 miles (roughly 100 miles a day) to and from work.
  • Drving synergy. 3 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Tuesday after lunch I had a very tedious trip to a friend's house, it was blasting down with rain, but something in my soul told me that the drive was going to be different. Twenty eight miles, 30 minutes along a mix of rural single and an arterial dual carriageway, nothing special, a trip I've done a hundred times recently. Not the most of inspiring of drives in an uninspiring SUV in horrid weather.
  • Drive way fine in petty Britain 30 Jun 2009 (Forum)
If that is the case, I'd be tempted to drive a vehicle up and down that bit of so called highway. Bet the council would have something to say about that as well. The whole exercise smacks of pure out and out money making.
  • Driving home for Christmas 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
...or driving to visit someone and back home afterwards. So what rarely undertaken journeys are forum members going on this festive season? Is that drive half-way across the county, or country, to visit friends or relations something to look forward to or dread?
  • Driving standards in the UK 1 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I see a lot of posts that state that driving standards are better on the continent that they are in the UK in one way or another. The latest was in relation to motorcycling. Having both worked and driven on holiday fairly extensively in Europe I am firmly of the opinion that this is largely wishful thinking or that tendency we have in this country to to ourselves down.
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 01 1.9 Head lights and front driving/fog lights 19 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My head lights will only work on full beam,so can only be rarely used.I have been advised that they should work in the dipped position when driving but the lights do not.I have been advised that the headlights could have been blanked off,can you advise what blanked off means? Also can one have front driving/fog lights installed where the grilles are (on each side of the number plate) as I have seen in other cars and would this be legal ,would insurance companies accept?

  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 2005 Diesel- Are they known to have a hard clutch? 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi - I have purchased a 2005 Rover 75 estate today and was really pleased with it. The clutch was harder to operate than the car that I usually drive, which is a Fiesta, but was not a problem for me on either the test drive or driving it after delivery today. My wife has tried it and tells me that it is too hard for her to operate, and as she would need to drive it every day, this means that we cannot keep it.
  • Dealer test drives 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
One particular car supermarket, which i wouldn't use ever due to the hard sell methods they employ, is situated just off a dual carriageway, their idea of a test drive is up the road one junction, back to the dealer and sign here. My question is why do we allow ourselves to be bullied into only having a 5 minute test drive instead of an hour or so on all road surfaces and in traffic and close manoeuvering?
  • Fag ends 2 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I personally think that the recent smoking ban in public places has meant that many smokers now find themselves lighting up whilst driving and perhaps they never used to smoke and drive in the past. Not passing comment on the merits of smoking and driving - just asking for your thoughts on why it happens more now than before.
  • Don't drive as I do, drive as I say... 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)

  • Etiquette for test driving 2nd hand cars 15 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I remember when we went to buy my mate's car (a 10 year old VR6) the bloke was pretty free and easy about letting us drive it although obviously it was only worht 10% of the BMW's value.
  • Efficient driving technique 29 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I have been trying to drive more economically. One of the tips I have come across on the web is to leave the car in gear and ease off the accelerator when going down a hill. I have read that this will only work for modern cars, where the ecu/computer cuts off the fuel.
  • Wet Weather driving 5 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Have just got back from an IAM observed drive that lasted all of 5 minutes a further 30 minutess was spent trying to get out of Albrighton before giving up and having to wait it out. what surprised me was how blindly some people drove into water without a clue of gear or speed or how deep it was.
  • "Dementia made me forget ban" 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
A motorist with dementia has been spared jail after being caught driving while banned for the 30th time. Keith Edwards (57), was given a conditional discharge for a year when magistrates heard he cannot remember he is disqualified. Edwards was stopped at Conwy, North Wales, driving in the wrong direction while on holiday with his wife.
