VW Polo - Polo 1.2 60 - underpowered or acceptable 22 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I'm still on the lookout for a new car to replace my trusty old Yaris. SWMBO has taken a liking to the new-style Polo. I must admit I do like the looks of it but am a bit concerned about the spec of the base model which is the only one anywhere near in my budget. -

Due to the mad rush of my holiday and getting my car ready in time last Friday I had to get a new back box. Took it to a fastfit they tell me I needed... -
Advice on cancelling Breakdown Cover 3 Sep 2006 (Forum)
So, I picked up my shiny new car yesterday, complete with 12 mths RAC cover. Simple task for today - phone breakdown provider for my previous car and cancel the old policy, expecting a decent refund as it only commenced on 15 July.... -
Change Volvo for A-Class 23 Jun 2004 (Forum)
A few years ago I rented an A-Class from Easycar and like the driving position and general height of the vehicle. It is much better suited to the type of driving I do and given I am in and out of the car several times day, it is far more convenient than the Volvo. I have the option of buying an A210 LWB Evolution Auto, 2 years old, 5,500 miles for £12,000. That is a cheap price - the owner is leaving the country. -
Citroen C3 - 4 month warranty.....??! 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Fuming, I tell him to ring Customer Services at Citroen UK. They don't want to talk to me, but he explains the problem, and, funny old thing, they authorise the work, even though the car has covered 6600 miles. So, why didn't he ring them in the first place (I think I know the answer to that one already!) and what other parts of my allegedly comprehensive 3 year warranty are specifically excluded? -
FIAT Punto II (1999 - 2006) - 1.9D, the old smoker, quits in time for MOT.. 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
This cars is SWMBO`s community work vehicle and never gets over 2,000 revs. Also we never go anywhere in it, its just for work and the City nearby. Every year, pre MOT, I have to thrash it up and down the local motorway sliproads in third to the limiter. -
Honda CR-V - Honda CR-V Steering wheel creaking.. 30 Nov 2011 (Forum)
And i want to do it right now, not to wait more (i have to wait another 3 months, and since im selling my old car i'll be without a car). So again.. Does any other have this sound? (seem that design with that plastic it's not that good, and im not sure how the plastic im talk about is connected there. -
Toyota Carina E (1992 - 1997) - Has engine economy improved in the last 11 years? 20 Jul 2008 (Forum)
It returned 42mpg. How can these cars call themselves 'eco' when they are returning nigh on the same mpg as my old bus?! Don't get me wrong, I'd love a new car, but when you analyse the figures it's not worth spending 18,000 pounds on something that's no more economical than my sub-1000 pound car. -
main dealers -by the book? 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Maybe though, they're being straightforward & are being 'let down' by their underwriters who perhaps imagine they're bidding for a car belonging to an eager shiny faced ingenue who's sitting transfixed & awe struck in the chrome & plate glass showroom, willing to accept any old trade-in offer to get the car of his dreams. Anyway, thanks for listening, rant over! -

Best mid sized suv 26 Jan 2024 (Forum)
We are very lucky that my wife has been told she can have a new company car in a few months. The main provisos are that it should be up to around £28k, up to 2 years old, and a petrol hybrid or plugin petrol hybrid. For us it has to have a good boot for two dogs and a good amount of leg room for the driver. -
Tesla - Any 24 Feb 2023 (Forum)
I know most cars, including my current vitara are not finished to the same standard as the exterior panels in the less visible areas but at least they are the same colour, this thing was so poorly primed that one could still see the discoloration of the spot welds which themselves where very few and far apart, I walked away shaking my head, even the guy working on it ( new shocks and coil springs at 18 months old) said that under the skin it left a lot to be desired. -
When bagnernomics goes bad 27 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Now that car needs another expensive repair and I thought I'd try to cheer myself up by reading other people's terrible experiences. Shameful schadenfreude I know. Does anyone have any worse experiences than this, spending almost £3k on a £1000 car just to keep it running? -
Perception of Battery Electric Vehicles in the UK 29 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I am currently conducting a questionnaire/survey on this subject and would kindly ask to fill it out. As there are a lot of car enthusiasts and people enjoying cars on HonestJohn.co.uk, I would like to hear your opinions as well. By having a higher number of participants, my research will become more comprehensive and thorough. -
Mazda CX-30 - Scuffing on tyre edges 7 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I have just noticed that there is what appears to be scuffing around the outside and inside edges/shoulders of all my tyres. There is a brown band around the tyres which I assume is caused by excess wear. The car is less than a year old and has only done 1700 miles. The tyres are Bridgestone Turanza 215x55x18. I have read that this could be due the pressures being low, however, I always keep them at exactly the recommended pressure of 36psi or even slightly above. -
Ford Fusion - Crash young driver what to do? 5 Apr 2021 (Forum)
My son was manouvering into a parallel parking spot and when stationary he says another car driving along same road hit him on passenger door which won't now open. Name address driving licence insurance company exchanged but no phone numbers. Other driver has less than three year old car all taxed ok and my son has a 2002 Fusion and is a student. -

Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 31-08-2019 21 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Better than Which this month. I was at a friend's house & he swears by Which - I google for electrical reviews & read HJ for cars + other sites. Which Car "expert" answered a query form someone about an HRV - he dismissed the HRV as under powered. This was probably based on their "expert review" of the 2015 1,5's. He recommended a CRV!! -
Honda CRZ - Is it easy to change a battery 20 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Or is it best left to the dealer? Does the car remember it’s mileage when you change the battery? -
Honda Civic D-tec - Honda 12 and 12+ service vs independent garage 11 Sep 2018 (Forum)
It's time to get my 9th gen Civic serviced. I aquired the car a few months ago, it is 4 years old and has a full main dealer service history so far. Does anyone who is familar with the Honda 12 and 12+ think they are good value for money compared to taking the car to a local garage which, from my PoV would be more convenient?
