You can't turn a pig's ear into a silk purse. 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The familiar old anti-diseasal rant. I'm utterly convinced that over the life of a car a modern diesels cost much more than their petrol engined cousins to run. Yeah sure there are some cracking diesels out there, I know. If you're a high mileage company car driver who'll get a car for 2 or 3 years, blast it up and down motorways and then throw them away, the only concern is diesel biased BIK and fuel costs (if you have to pay them.) again diesels win that argument. -

15p Litre Biodiesel Made from Cats 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Reuters: Inventor turns dead cats into diesel A German inventor says he's found a way to make cheap diesel fuel out of dead cats. Dr Christian Koch, 55, from Kleinhartmannsdorf, said his method uses old tyres, weeds and animal cadavers. They are heated up to 300 Celsius to filter out hydrocarbon which is then turned into diesel by a catalytic converter. -

Japanese Diesels-Inefficient/thirsty? 11 Oct 2003 (Forum)
For some reason Japanese Diesels like the ones for the Primera/Almera have had bad press, not so much for reliability as for the lack of performance and fuel guzzling nature. Is there any real ground to it.I know compared to the French and the Germans , the Japanese diesels pale in comparision , but are they of the "not to be considered" category when looking for a used car? -

Diesel Starting Problems 17 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Took it to a garage and they checked the glow plugs etc and could find nothing wrong. Have replaced the fuel filter. Problem is only recent - last 2 months. Later in the day - to come home, the car starts no problem. Only seems to be first thing in the morning. Any suggestions? Could there be a problem with condensation in the fuel tank ??? -
Skoda Octavia Estate - A difficult decision to make 8 Apr 2021 (Forum)
However, my big worry is that given the recent bad publicity around diesels, there is a risk of a massive hike in tax/duty on diesel any time soon to disincentivise it as a fuel over petrol. Looking at my car options, Diesels are definitely cheaper in the choices I have highlighted above (in particular, used mk4 focus petrols are quite a bit more expensive than Diesels). -
Vauxhall Astra 1.7 diesel 1999 - Astra diesel wont run.......... 16 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I'm hoping we have some GM experts out there... I have a 99 1.7 turbo diesel Astra. (Vauxhall engine). The car came to me about 200 miles ago with a receipt for a fuel pump for over £700 ! just a few months before I got it. The car has run exceptionally well until it started missing the odd beat....this became more frequent until it stopped altogether, and now wont go at all. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2006 TDCi - Diesel starting on veggy oil 9 Jan 2008 (Forum)
It has always been a good starter and ran well - until now. A number of friends are running up to 25% vegetable oil in their 5 year old diesels so I decided to try it. I put a small percentage in a full tank of diesel - 6 litres in about 45 litres of fuels and it worked well. No problems at all. Yesterday I tried 9 litres in 40 litres of diesel (about 18%) It started on a warm engine but on a run of about 2 miles to the shops it wasn't so good at low revs. -

Fuel Shortage, what fuel shortage! 8 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I'm not one to start a filthy rumour, but after hearing on BBC Brekfast TV that there definitely was NOT a fuel shortage, how come the local Shell garage has been without diesel for 2 days at least, when they are usually on the ball. No, it's not a back-road operation, it's one of the biggest in Ipswich. To add to it, why are they queueing 7-8 cars at the remining petrol pumps.
