Being overtaken - responsibilities? 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Seeing him coming up, and realising that he was not going to get past, I had been in two minds as between braking to let him get past, or maintaining my speed so that he could slip in behind. If I had braked, he would have gone straight into the lorry. As it happened, I made the right decision, ie to do nothing, but either way, failing to anticipate his action would have precipitated an accident. -
changing gears 25 Oct 2001 (Forum)
similarly - when slowing down etc, I tend to go through the gears since i find it gives better control over braking, but can this put adverse stress on the 'box too? Am I better off using just the brakes? My driving instructor taught me to not go through the gears - but he said that in days of old they did used to teach students to go through the gears like I now do. -

any - Obstructions on hills 10 Dec 2012 (Forum)
If there is an obstruction on a steep hill, the convention is that the vehicle coming uphill has priority, irrespective of which side of the road the obstruction is on. Does the same rule apply to trucks? Which is the bigger problem for HGVs-brake fade or clutch wear? -

Jaguar I-Pace - I-Pace nightmare? how to get solution/justice? 14 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I was wearing normal footwear, no health issues, no obstacles or doormats on pedals or anything like that and had a few terrifying seconds of trying to pump the brakes, hit the brakes anything with the brakes while steering into the safest option - i.e. smashed over the roundabout where the vegetation slowed me down as well as the loss of a couple of tyres. Police closed a lane and got me recovered and I had to report to insurance who arranged via their garage to replace a couple of tyres and maybe gave the car a polish (surprised not more damage but could be lack of a thorough check by them). -

Mini Cooper S Coupe - Second hand car problems from purchase 30 Nov 2013 (Forum)
You drove the vehicle, heard the brake noise and I was again told the brakes would resolve themselves even though the mini had covered many more miles and that there was sufficient depth on the pads. I draw to your attention that it is not sufficient that the vehicle is merely roadworthy and safe the requirement extends to other matters besides safety and roadworthiness.
