Battery Electrolyte Tester: A handy tool for transferring sulfuric acid from car battery to the inside of your toolbox after determining that your battery is dead as a doornail, just as you thought. There’s no noisy combustion motor up front rattling away and no complex automatic gearbox - it’s a battery and a big electric motor. It’ll cost buttons to fuel, and it cost nearly £20,000 less than its new price at less than 3yrs old with 18,000 miles up and it looks like a new car. It comes with 2yrs VW warranty, 5yrs battery pack cover, 2yrs Mot cover and 2yrs servicing for £99 extra.
  • New car privacy concerns 23 Jul 2025 (Forum)
On top of all this, I’ve read about issues with connected cars drawing constant power from the 12V batteries in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, leading to flat battery problems. For instance, the UK Yaris Hybrid has faced complaints about this very issue. It’s frustrating to think that the technology designed to enhance my driving experience could also lead to unexpected inconveniences.
  • Jaguar X-Type Estate - Intermittent Loss Of Power - Actuator? Jag X Type 7 May 2016 (Forum)
After looking on here and other forums, I thought the problem could be a brief loss of power or earth from the battery as it has had to go a few revs before starting on cold mornings, and the battery to be honest looked a little knackered and was an easy fix, so I tried swapping that for another but no joy (bit of a long shot anyway).
  • 05 Ford Focus Diesel 1.8 - 05 Ford Focus Alternators not lasting 22 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Just over a year later I noticed sometimes the car would be flat for no aparent reason every couple of weeks which became more & more freaquent. During this time the Alternator seemed to be charging the battery until at it eventually died. I took it to my local garage & explained the history & about the Smart Charge etc which I'm pretty sure they completely ignored & said it'll just be the alternator so chucked another one in.
  • E30 318i / 1994 / Tourer. - Fluctuating engine,lights & fan after new HT Leads 19 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Today, (after disconnecting the negative battery cable first), I managed to dismantle some framework and various bolts, (as I couldn't work out how to unclip the connector...I worked it out by finding one in the open...easy...push the clip inwards,) to gain access to the connectors, and cleaned the crank sensor sockets and replace the crank sensor cable and connect it to the sensor socket, and put the number one spark lead on, and everything is still fluctuating, and stalling at junctions.
  • Saab - the future 10 Aug 2012 (Forum)
If NEVS is successful, surely the chances are that, in five years time, Trollhattan will be primarily an engineering centre, rather than the home to the manufacture of large numbers of battery-powered cars.
  • '98 Fiesta Zetec 1.25Si - Over Revs 7 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I am therefore going to be disconnecting the battery for a longer term (over night) and then following these procedures again to see if this helps! I have also heard that it could be the potentiometer and that ford would need to reqird this and it would take about 0.3 man hours to do.
  • Preparing bike for French Trip 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
then it's the bike........started quite well.........had started it 2 weeks ago for 1st time in 4 months, having disconnected the battery rather than use an optimiser, which ruined the battery last year. Wheeled it from back garden to front drive, intending to clean and polish it.......doesn't really need it as dust cover has done the job, but i like it to look 'proper'.........and then it started raining ....marvellous, now have to ride it to local bike shop in the rain for the new front tyre to be fitted, which should be interesting on the way back...
  • Is 6 Grand+5 y/o a car tipping point? 16 Feb 2007 (Forum)
and so start the cycle of exhausts, clutches, brake discs, batteries, shockers, bushes etc etc. As far as depreciation goes, my lovely 6 grand car after 2.5 years and then with 80k on the clock is suddenly worth 1500 as a trade in after I've spent a load of dosh getting it pukka.

  • Jaguar XF 2009 - Restricted Performance warning persisting 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Any insight and advice welcome as I am still trying to get to grips with learning all the foibles Jaguar seems to have, including the battery going flat if it’s not taken for a long run every week which I can’t always do. If I can get rid of the RP warning, it’s going up for sale.
  • Nissan Micra - Nissan Micra issues 12 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Yesterday my front lights were flickering I noticed driving into work for a bit. Could it be connected and my battery? Car was bought from a Nissan dealer so it should have been checked when I bought it. The other thing is the milage I'm getting. Just done one full tank on a diesel engine and barely sc***ped 390 miles.

  • 2003 Nissan Micra - 2003 Nissan Micra, car slowed down, warning lights 27 Dec 2022 (Forum)
It got slower and slower so I had to change down gears and  the check engine light came on. I found a side road to park on by which time I’m pretty sure the battery light was also on and then the engine just seemed to cut out. I started the car again but the engine seemed to be going slower than it usually does and the warning lights were still displayed so I turned the engine off.
  • Vauxhall astra 1.9 - Astra electric issues 24 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I connected a lead from engine block to chassis but nothing, I also found wiring a multimeter to chassis and to positive terminal on battery gave 12v should the chassis return 12v?? Earth issue? I've checked all fuses they are ok. Including the 80amp strip fuse and the larger fuses above the fusebox. Could it be no power going to fusebox?
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Style - starting problems 9 May 2021 (Forum)
They acknowledged it had a problem when starting & gave it to a local Ford dealer. They say they checked all the usual in the engine (ignition, battery etc) and did all the diagnostic checks but could find no fault. After taking the car back, the problem continued on and off. At the end of February I gave the car to my local garage to look at. They had it a full day but again having done all checks including diagnostic, they could not find any problem.
  • Ford Fiesta MK6 1.4TDCI - Ford Fiesta Stalling 26 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The problem is getting worse as now it stalls at 30MPH. When it stalls, the yellow engine light comes on and at times the Battery light comes on. They all switch off again after few seconds, however the problem keep on arising after few seconds/minutes.  I took it to the garage when it started it doing it and they couldnt find any errors.
