  • Peugeot 206 CC - Problem with new drive shaft (or not) 11 Jun 2023 (Forum)
It's like it's not stretched enough, which I believe might cause damage in the future. This drive shafts were installed as they came out of box, so they came out like this from factory. I was thinking about taking that metal clip out to stretch it further, and then apply new clip. However, I'm hesitant as that might void the warranty.
  • Nissan Pulsar - Consumer rights out of warranty & 2nd identical fa 3 Apr 2023 (Forum)
I managed to get home tonight by staying in high revs in 4th here along the thankfully quieter roads off the A1 but absolutely will not drive it(incidentally the garage is near to where the incident happened tonight and involves driving along the A1 again which I just can’t do safely). I would appreciate any advice possible. Thank you in advance
  • Nissan Navara - Runaway Truck 27 Oct 2022 (Forum)
We've been having quite a time of ot the last couple of days. Following on from my wife's Audi A3 catching fire on the drive on Sunday, Tuesday evening while we were watching Pointless we heard a loud bang and a car alarm going off. Fearing the Audi had somehow re-ignited we rushed out the front door to see a Nissan Navara stopped across the bottom of our drive, sitting in a pile of bricks which used to be our garden wall!
  • Toyota Corolla - Clutch or Gearbox Noise 29 Mar 2022 (Forum)
On start-up in neutral the car sounds normal, clutch pedal pressed or not.  But as soon as I drive and get to 3rd, 4th and 5th gear there is a rattling sound coming from the engine area. It is definitely mechanical ie not wheel bearing related, and the noise disappears as soon as I press the clutch when I’m driving.
  • VW CC - Advanced Driving 6 May 2021 (Forum)
I do try to identify every other car that could benefit , but unfortunately sometimes I miss one, or rather it emerges later on in the system. But by far the worse thing is that after 35 years of driving I have stopped habitually indicating at every opportunity and I am now erroneously omitting to indicate at times when it would be clearly useful and safer for other drivers.  Was it really so bad to indicate at every opportunity (change in direction) on the basis someone might benefit.

  • 2007 R26 Renault Megane - Advice-Bought car from dealer, now its got issues! 29 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Today I went to finalise and purchase the car under the impression everything was in good order. Its a 50 mile drive home (for the most part motorway) and the car seemed fine at 60-70 mph, it wasn't until I was driving through  town, stuck in traffic I started to notice the car vibrating/juddering when at a complete stop with my foot  off the accelerator, as soon as i touch the throttle increasing the revs to anything past 1000rpm the engine smooths out and the vibrations are gone.

  • Citroen C15 Van (retro courier van) - The hardest working Citroen C15 van in the UK 17 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Hello  Always read this site for years and just joined so I would like to share my life with the hardest working C15 van in the UK as my first post  I have a small courier company in Devon and we have to control every penny to keep going  My secret weapon has always been the C15 van they are becomming very rare and Im always on the look out for late models. The one I drive myself on long distance at the moment is 53 plate one I got it on 75k and it is now on 130k we have done this in 12 months !! All I did was replace a starter and a drive shaft and service it.  It is not unusual to drive this thing 1500 miles a week and one busy week in the summer I did 2400 in a week taking in Cornwall London , Norfolk and Inverness among other areas of the land .
  • BMW 3 Series Skoda Octavia - My next car...but your opinions/help welcome! 3 Jan 2019 (Forum)
My difficulty is neither of these specs are currently available anywhere near where I live so test driving isn’t easy but I still somehow hope to drive both before I buy. My thoughts are as follows: Bmw - the car my heart wants more with better quality interior and driving experience but my concerns are the possibly underpowered engine, boot space and possible running costs as I’ve never owned a bmw before and this does worry me.
  • TBC - Diesel or Petrol - The eternal question (DPF) 16 Oct 2018 (Forum)
It is likely to be sat around for 3 or 4 days a week not moving, but a trip into work is only 15 Miles and only includes a short 5 minute dual carriage way drive followed by another 30 minutes of heavy traffic that generally moves, but not always. At the weekends I am likely to be able to get out in it one of the two days for a bit of a drive for a few hours.
  • Which non-Diesel Taxi car to buy? 23 Jul 2018 (Forum)
    - used parts are not rare/expensive - Cheap to insure, Is taxi private hire insurance affected by what insurance group the car is in? - comfortable to drive in and if fun to drive then thats a bonus - preferably with a lot of stock kit as standard - easy to maintain/service, no need to take a engine out to change a bulb lol, preferably service interval times are long not short.
  • What fuel next 6 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I have narrowed it down to the Skoda Octavia Estate as it supports my height and has good room all round. My dilemma is I want a automatic next as the stop start weekly driving is killing my clutch foot. Do I pick a 1.5 tsi petrol DSG or a 1.6 or 2.0 tsi DSG, not sure as the car size says diesel but my driving warrants a petrol. I don’t think I am getting the benefits of the diesel as my highest mpg during the week is 43mpg.
  • Changing Address on Driving licence 2 May 2017 (Forum)
Hiya folks I need to change the address on my driving license. The only problem is that its been one of those 'things' that I've been putting off for a while now and should have been done a few years ago. I have checked out the directgov website which allows you to apply for a change of address online and I have all the applicable details (digital passport, etc).
  • Used automatic car advice 23 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I am looking to buy a comfortable automatic car for under £2000 pref under 90k miles with max tax £180/year. I plan to drive a long distance commute by the end of the year as I am moving out of London and will drive in for work. I also need something that I can sit in, I have an arthritic condition where maintaining my posture is vital.
  • Which car makers do / don't offer a spare wheel? 7 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Some manufacturers offer a spare wheel or spacesaver as standard; some list it as an optional extra; some make cars that don't even have space for one. I understand the reasons for spacesavers, and for them being an option; but most of us drive from time to time on potholed roads, and most of us drive from time to time in areas where there's no mobile reception.  I would feel considerable Schadenfreude if I heard of a car designer who'd designed a car with no room for even a spacesaver getting a tyre gashed irreparably in that situation.
  • Ford Ka - Unregistered foreign car 5 May 2015 (Forum)
THIS IS THE POINT: we have decided to bring it back to its country, because there's no point of keeping an Italian car here in the UK (driving seat on the left side, etc..) but, we don't know how to do it without spending a fortune!!! They told us we can't drive it, so we should book a TRUCK to have it transported to Calais, France, where we will be able to drive it once again.
  • Any - diesel exhaust regeneration 18 Sep 2014 (Forum)
At work we recently took delivery of four out of twenty seven new euro 6 trucks. As well as the Adblue system they now have a exhaust catalyst regeneration system (dpf). Whilst driving one yesterday it started regeneratein and this is the first time I have had this as they have only covers 1500 miles and I drive different lorries all the time. I knew it was regenerating as the light came up but I was entering the waste tipping site at the time so I switched the system off whilst tipping them turnd it back on again once I left the site.
  • Help! Which car? 6 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My requirements are: - Something economical since I'll be doing about 12,000 miles a year. - Low road tax/insurance bracket - Suitable for frequent motorway (well, A road) driving and occassional long distances - Ideally, costing about £4000 (this is my current budget but I'm starting to wonder if it's too small.) I've read lots of reviews, and I thought something like a Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 or Peugeot 207 might be good, but from what I've read I get the impression they aren't ideal for motorway driving.
