  • Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec (1997) - Fiesta 1.2 Uneven Idle problem 18 Sep 2010 (Forum)
This problem started (or got very considerably worse) after we disconnected the battery to work on the elctric windows and then reconnected the battery. May be a red herring, but may be relevant? We have changed the temperature sensor , the plus and HT leads, and finally the Mass Airflow sensor.

  • Ford Probe (1994 - 1998) - 95 2.5 Electrical / water short 20 Nov 2009 (Forum)
It ran fine as long as I didn't activate the indicators, which acted as a handy 'kill-switch.' It then gave up the ghost again 25 yards from my garage. The garage mechanic disconnected the battery and left it inside over the weekend. On Monday he went to examine what he and the AA man thought must be two wires rubbing in the steering column somewhere, reconnected the battery and hey presto, the headlights readjusted themselves and the car started first time, no problems.
  • Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 97 2.0D - a rattle, then black smoke, then stopped 25 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I left it and returned the next day and the resevoir was still full. I know it will need a new battery but have no expierience other than changing tyres as to fixing cars. Any ideas what may be wrong just to give me an idea of the possibilities I may be looking at would be appreciated. Thank you Matt PS: It's diesel if that has any relevance.
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1993 1.1 - Starting problems 10 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Engine turns over and you can hear it wants to go but won't catch and fire up even when I connect my jumpstart battery booster. Sometime if I leave it an hour it will start ok. Battery is good and spark is evident. Without exception if I tow it for a bump starts it starts ok after 25 yards and runs fine immediately.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 01 1.9 Got speedo working, but help 24 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Fuse now fitted with a pushbutton to press before starting car, until I can resolve problem. When battery went flat during investigation speedo would sit just off end stop and work. This stopped when battery charged. Where is the speedo interface unit? is this built into the dash panel. There is not a direct connection between the black socket and the speedo meter movement on the dash panel.
  • Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 95 2.0 M Reg - Weird wiring explanation 21 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Now I'm assuming the controls stopped working so someone hacked a wiring from the starter to the fan with a relay to stop it draining the battery and that the fan was therefore likely to be always on and hence burnt out? Thoughts? Is this normal wiring? Can I unhack it? Assuming a new fan is required regardless. Ta in advance M.
  • FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 55 SX 1108cc 97 R. Alarm/Immobiliser Problem 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 02 2.0 FAP Regen Electrical Issues 11 Apr 2008 (Forum)
However when the relay clicks the head lights flicker briefly :( If I'm on the motorway the relay clicks and the lights flicker, this wouldn't be a problem if this just happened at the start of the regen process but the clicking continues many times whilst the regen is being carried out (probably for 12-30 miles). People have mentioned this maybe a battery issue which it maybe but before buying a new battery I'd like to get my mind clear why the relay would be clicking on and off a fair bit durring the regen and why in the past I never noticed it doing this.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 2002 1.8 - Lambda probes 31 Mar 2008 (Forum)
    - How long can I drive with such a problem before I damage the cat? - Can the ecu be reset (the fault canceled) by disconnecting the battery, or does it need doing via diagnostics? I'm having trouble getting this from the garage who originally looked at the car. - (if this is falls foul of forum rules, please ignore and accept my apologies) is there a good place to purchase the probes?
  • Isuzu - Tachograph - can anyone help? 1 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1999 Isuzu NQR 7.5 ton lorry fitted with a horsebox body, used for private transport of our horses and taxed as private HGV. To prevent the batteries going flat when not in use we have an isolator fitted. When the isolator is screwed in (to make the connection) the speedo needle on the tachograph slowly goes from 0 round to maximum and stays there.
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1993 1.1 - Starting Problems when Cold 29 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Engine turns over and you can hear it wants to go but won't catch and fire up even when I connect my jumpstart battery booster. Sometime if I leave it an hour it will start ok. Battery is good and spark is evident. When it does start it immediately ticks over and runs perfectly. If I tow it for a bump starts it starts ok and runs fine and seems to restart fine when the engine is warm.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1.8 Zetec, engine cuts out when revs drop. 16 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Have had the car hooked up and had the engine management checked as was told could be this - NO Problems found. Also Told : Could be the wire to the battery???? Could be fuel pump???? Please anyone who has had this and could tell me yes its defently this or that would be a STAR...as cant afford to keep taking it backwards and forwards to garage thats why i drive it as is!!!!!!!!!
  • '91 Peugeot 205 Gti Starting issue 22 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The starter does move, i put a screwdriver on the casing and tried to make sure the starter moved, the alternator moves but not much and that's it. It won't turn at all so i checked the battery, Brand new so no issues there, battery connections, brand new, immobiliser connections, all sound, engine earth, sound, 12v supply to starter, sound, fuse board (the fuses are fine and nothing smells) so I'm stumped!!
  • Parking sensors 16 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The inconsistency just never ?felt? like an intermittent connection. I started by thinking it might be battery voltage on the 6 year old battery but measurement disproved that. From previous experience I am aware that a covering of road grime can cause them to play up and always kept them clean. However, one sensor has a small paint chip about 3mm diameter.
  • Peugeot 406 14 May 2007 (Forum)
3.When starting the car sometimes, the engine won't turn over and the dash clock resets itself, like it's a battery failure. If I try again it starts fine but the clock goes to all zeros and has to be reset. It usually happens after trying to restart the car after driving a considerable distance. Doesn't ever happen when trying to start the car first thing in the morning so I don't think it's the battery.
  • Breathing problem?! Golf Mk4 9 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I inspected the oil cap and found it coated with a creamy substance. I took the car to another garage to get a battery check but this is going to take about 5 hours, the garage guy said the battery may be flat or faulty. He had a look at this squashed pipe too and decided to take the complete throttle body pipe off.
  • Stag: indicators no longer flash 9 Jul 2005 (Forum)
The only other problem with the car is that the alternator dash-light has been lighting up recently when the engine is running (and not lighting up before cranking) - I have a new alternator on the way, just haven't received it yet. If the alternator is only partially charging the battery, and the battery is therefore weak does that manifest itself in a non-flashing flasher (amongst other things) ?
