leon st, volvov 60, mazda 6 message 26 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Hi, hoping 'skidpan' picks this up. Want a 3 year old petrol family car with plenty of room in back seats but not too long. The Leon ST is good but no bigger in the cabin than my mk 1 leon. The Volvo V60 is great but the 1.6 petrol is juicy. -
Honda Accord 2011 - Clutch Judder When Reversing 19 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Even my 4 year old granddaughter asks why it is (in her words) so bumpy. I took it back to the Honda dealer where I purchased the car who said that they could not identify a problem and asked a second Honda dealer for theit opinion, but they also said the same thing. -
Captivaet Captiva - Chevrolet 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I have been driving for over 30 years. The car is 2 years old and with 30000 miles on it but the car suddenly stopped 3 months ago with a faulty clutch. There are many identical incidences of this on the internet with this particular model. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso 2004 reg - Cambelt & other repairs/buy another vehicle 26 Oct 2015 (Forum)
My Picasso Xsara is about 11 years old. I purchased it about 2 years ago as a used car, the cambelt had been changed the same year I purchased it, so that should be ok. Since then, I have had to replace the clutch, and now recently have discovered a slow leak on the steering rack. -
Toyota Prius - Could this be clocked? 23 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Thereafter the owner would ask his own son (a mechanic) to service it but there are no records for this. They have the MOT records which show that the car would do about 3k every year until today. However they are not Toyota MOT certificates. I don't know if the son did the MOTs himself - I can find out. The owner is an old man who exchanged the car for an Auris hybrid. -
Subaru Outback - Duff headlights 23 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I wrote on 8th Dec. 2013 about the simultaneous demise of the nearside dipped beam and the sidelight. And I replaced both. The car was then seven years old. Although I had replaced the sidelights several times in that period I hadn't had any trouble with the dipped or main beams. Now the bulb in the dipped beam has gone again and I was ready with a spare which I've installed. -
Skoda Superb - water ingress 11 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I have a Skoda Superb 1.9Tdi 130 PD Elegance. The car is nearly 10 years old with 190K+ but goes like a dream, used daily and is still in very good condition. However recently I noticed the footwell behind and underneath the drivers seat is sodden wet. ( which accounts for the unusual condensation and icing inside the car recently) I have checked the drainage holes in door panels adjacent to the footwell and they seem to be clear. -
Security 9 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Failing that the 'lowlife' then took out his spleen on the car upholstery and dash, slashing and gouging. Therefore my son discounted the use of a crookbar. I've had the same crookbar now through four cars and always use it, leaving all the lockers and hatches open. -
Help buying used car 12 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I've spoken to someone who has suggested the Hyundai i10 and Honda Jazz which I know nothing about as I don't know much about cars. Thanks for any advice. -
Audi A4 diesel saloon - Low-mileage turbro failure 28 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I recently suffered a severe power reduction while motorway driving. My car was 21 months old, I'd had it from new and it had done 25000 miles. It then used a litre of oil in about 6 miles to the garage and subsequently the turbo, exhaust system and DPF had all to be replaced, fortunately under warranty as estimated cost was £6,000. -
skoda/yeti - Medium sized tow-car 18 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I am looking for a reliable modest tow car for a modest sized caravan, and I was wondering if anybody has advice. My starting point was a 1.9 diesel Focus, say 2-3 years old, with a tow capacity of 1500kg. However, I have seen on Autotrader a lot of 1.6 diesel i30's at reasonable prices, which can pull 1400kg, and this should be enough. -
Renault Megane 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Tonight whilst driving home the engine began to rev of its own free will then rev counter dropped to 1k revs regardless of throttle input, about 200 yards away from home there was masses of smoke pouring from the engine bay and the car cut out but restarted itself straight away. The stench was terrific ( burning clutch type smell ). Whilst the car was running I limped it the few yards to home then decided to call the RAC. 2 hours later and car is still smelling like a burning rubber tip and an RAC visit, the patrolman reckons he can't find a fault. -
choosing next car 25 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I am thinking of buying myself a (late) Xmas present. I have a budget of £35k (ish) to spend on a car. Requirements : 4 door saloon, reasonably spacious Fast, fun to drive, but reasonable economy Luxurious interior Reliable, up to a year old I have narrowed my shortlist down to : Jag XF 3.0d S portfolio (probably pre facelift, as better value) Merc CLS coupe (new shape) Lexus LS600h (OK, will have to go older to get within budget) Infiniti M hybrid (left field choice, but had a G on a year's lease which I really enjoyed) So far, I have tested the first 2, but not yet the second 2. -
Selling an Untaxed/Un-MOT'd Car 18 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Some clarification much appreciated, The other half is selling her old motor, a tatty 206 that's been off road and out of use for about the past 6 months or so. Having been parked up it is of course on SORN and has no current MOT. It's now sat on the drive, awaiting somebody to hand over a couple of hundred beans and find a use for it. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2007 1.8 TDCi Difficult to pull away at low revs. 7 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I have had a couple of nasty turns trying to get onto roundabouts in London because of this flat spot. All three cars have the same problem, and it is much worse than on my old 2003 Mondao diesel estate. One of the guys had 2000 diesel Focus and he confirms the same deterioration. Any ideas?? ds -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 00 1.8 Indicator flasher unit 1 Apr 2011 (Forum)
It is very intermittent sometimes going days or journeys working correctly sometimes not and so on. On old cars you can usually find a flasher unit that makes this noise and replace it, but I cant find the equivalent on the circuit diagram for this car in the Haynes manual, nor does it mention such a thing. -
which car to buy under £1,000 ? 20 Mar 2011 (Forum)
How about a 10 year old VW Polo? I saw one for £800 with 100k on it. My mother reckons 100k is too high and it's not worth the risk, but seriously what else can you get for £800. There seem to be a few Polos going for under a grand. -
Reliable runabout for Gladys? 31 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Xmas greetings everyone! Ok my old aunt isn`t really called Gladys but she would like a narrower car to make parking and getting in&out of vehicle easier in her garage.Plan B is to win the pools/lotto and build a bigger garage. Also don`t think Santa can squeeze a prefab kit in his sack(Trade unions+H&S),so plan A is to find a reliable narrower car than her 2007 fez-bomb.She`s not a fan of the Micra`s looks but did mention Kia,don`t think she wants anything too small.Assume she would buy newish previously owned or new.I haven`t had time to go around supermarket car-parks with a tape measure so has anyone any ideas please? -
Choice between two classic cars (restoration). 22 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Anyway, I've had experience restoring classics, I used to help my Dad and his friend restore their old Land Rovers (Series II, IIA and III). But I'd like something different. My two ideals choices are the Mini, or the Beetle. Obviously two very different cars. I've done a lot of searching and there seems to be a good few of each within my budget that are roadworthy. -
Police Camera Action 13 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Did anyone else watch this program Once again we have a program that is giving out the politically correct massage speeding kills. to illustrate the fact the program rolled out a number of clips from reckless criminals and the tragic story of a young girl left brain damaged by some rich irresponsible yob driving a powerful car, stupidly. It also had a demonstration that a car going faster takes longer to stop! Now that is news. It illustrates the stupidity of these that make our laws, surely 19 year olds, or these that just passed their test should not be allowed to drive fast cars on public roads The program claims 40% of road deaths are due to speeding, therefore 60% are not These programs should get across the dangers of tailgating, not indicating, not putting the headlights on in bad weather and so on and not just go on and on and on about the dangers of speed and then show irrelevant examples
