Veg oil in your tank 13 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I have read with fascination the pieces in Backroom and on your Telegraph page about the use of salad oil instead of diesel. However, I looked up Auto Bild on the web and went into their archive. I couldn't find any test of a Polo using salad oil over a long period (though there was material about a diesel Polo and its fuel economy) and I think all this must emanate from the following article, which I have pasted in - in both the original German and a Babelfish computer translation, which has a certain surreal quality. -

Replacement car suggestions 21 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Clearly this kind of usage is not going to sit well with a fairly highly-tuned car that?s already done a lot of miles. Also there?s the fuel economy issue - I have averaged 28mpg since starting the new job - not bad for a 200bhp car, and I get a very good rate for mileage, but I can?t help thinking that I would be substantially better off with a more economical car. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Dad-to-be swapping small van for a LAV - which one 20 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Also, all LAVs I'm looking at has sliding doors so it'll be really easy to get the baby/kids in/out. I'd like to keep it for as long as I can. Despite driving diesels for a long time, I've become quite turned off modern common rail diesels as I feel they're less reliable with expensive consumables - DPF, DMF and the fragile injection system. I also am keen on converting the next vehicle to dual fuel (to petrol & LPG/propane) to save on running costs & improve emissions. -

Toyota Auris 2.0 D-4D - Persistent engine problems -garage cannot trace it 21 May 2015 (Forum)
I have power loss problems and poor fuel consumption. Initially, on cold mornings starting was difficult - as if the heater plugs were dead. Once started it seemed to run quite well. Consumption soon dropped from 50mpg to 46mpg. -
Day trip to Germany - Random Ramblings 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I think the engine can be made to keep running when parked by putting the handbrake on!? The car was an odd spec. Heated seats but with fabric not leather, only speedo, RPM and fuel gauges, no temp gauge. Steel wheels with Korean Hankook tyres, surely they aren't original eqipment on any BMW? Traction control and a very nice diesel engine (Turbo?) The 6 speed gearbox was awful, very baulky and hard to engage gears when moving. -

Citroen C4 Picasso 7-st (2007 - ) - - 10 day hire car review 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Didn't want baby seat in back so was only my 5 year old in the 'boot' but was easier for her to climb in through the boot. On drive home electronic fuel guage was infuriating. Was a take away full and return empty deal, and was hard to guage how much fuel was left. Put 2 lots of EUR 5 diesel in, but didnt register on kms left or guage flashing away- but made it back with 45 kms to empty showing. -
Used cars of the year 13 Oct 2019 (Forum)
It’ll do 40mpg on a run and has plenty of power too. The 2.0 diesel is a worthy, but as with all modern diesels there’s plenty to go wrong as it ages but it is one of the better ones. I would’ve chose the Mazda 6 2.0 Skyactiv but you’d need £1,000 more to open up that option other than high mileage examples or cars with missing histories etc. -

2yrs on from buying a 9yr old dpf-equipped diesel 10 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Economically - use the engine torque (decent) to get up to speed and make sure it gets a healthy dose of sustained 2000-2500rpm for you know what. 6th gear at 70mph pulls 2200rpm. What do I feed it? Shell V-Power diesel 95% of time, unless there's a reason I cant get hold of it (unlikely)MPG - I'm getting 39-41mpg very consistently, as it's official fuel consumption claims. Mileage as of 0900 9th Sep 2019 - 110852 So....what has it cost thus far? -
Skoda Yeti 140 ks 4x4 or Honda CR-V 2.0 150 ks? 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
There is acceleration of about 10 sec (per specification) from 0-100 km/h, but It's not that bad, but still different to diesels we tried..There is missing the acceleration beween 80-150 km/h. The perfect would be diesel engine here, but it's so much more expensive here. Becouse of low torque i had to drive a bit more nervous (there is a peak of torque in one rpm area, so it's dont have smooth driving of torque of diesels in greater rpm range), and trying to have right gear and right rpm.
