  • Avensis d4d t3x - 2004 - Avensis Under Performances (clutch/Super diesel?) 5 Aug 2011 (Forum)
_nkw=toyota+avensis" target="_blank">Toyota Avensis D4D Saloon, T3X Silver Recently by mistake i fulled my tank with Super Diesel, which according to pump owenr should give better engine performance, for couple of days i enjoyed less noice and smooth engine performance But...now when even i stop at traffic light the engine dont show much power even if i push the gas pad fully to the floor. after around 3 seconds car shows lot power and suddenly get speed in first gear, if i dont wait for this sudden power and get in 2nd gear as car moves slowly, in around 30 seconds time i get jerks then i have to get in 3rd gear to smooth run again. yesterday after around 5 miles run i had to stop at trafic light at round about and then when i released cluths and gave gas it stalled and people behind me started blowing horns, i had to start hazard lights as when i started the engine back and tried to run the car in first gear it stlled again and again for almost 4 times, i gave a minute and then turned the engine on again and it slowly picked up the speed. it happend again in 20 mins time on another trafic light.
  • Fountains of the North - Trafalgar square in dreams 23 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Best hold your breath though when you feel that fountain aerosol on your face from 50 yards away as you try to get into Costa Coffee, across the `run off` river - you don`t know how often they change the water. How has your own Council benefitted you?
  • Corsa cdti. - diesel low compression 14 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Thing is i'm not sure if this would cause my symptoms? surly a engine that is designed to run at 400psi compression at 350 should run ok? maybe just harder to start? but i wouldn't expect large amounts of Black smoke? What sort of loss in compression would you see problems? Also do you think its a coinicedence that there is head problems and there is another problem lurking?
  • You can't turn a pig's ear into a silk purse. 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Older diesels were what they were, simple, rough and reliable machines. My friend's 504 had been in the family 25 years and was still running fine with 420,000 on the clock when they scrapped it due to tin worm. In order to make these inherently fuel efficient cars viable as a replacement for petrols, they had to be cleaned up and quietened down ?
  • Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - '99 1.6RXE Rough idle + Car won't rev up 14 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Background:- The car got a flat battery because the rear interior hatch light was on for 3-4 days in error so I called the RAC to get me going with a jump start...then the trouble started...prior to the RAC man visiting the car was fine. A day or so later I went to use the car and it would not run at all well. Although it starts OK it idles roughly it will not rev up or seem to take any load on the throttle ? consequently it runs at 10miles per hour only, cuts out frequently & is basically completely unfit to drive.
  • Hydrogen fuel 12 Feb 2001 (Forum)
I refer to the Daily Telegraph, Saturday 10th February 2001, Motoring Supplement pages 1 and 5, article entitled "The Balance of Power" by Charles Clover and Andrew English, concerning the possibilities of running cars [and other vehicles] on hydrogen. The main theme of the article seems to be that the future of cars will be to run on hydrogen obtained from renewable energy resources such as wind or hydroelectricity or from hydrogen 'grown' in places like the current oil producing states in the Middle East.
  • Ford Focus Zetec 5 Dr 1.6 Tdci (2011 mark3) - Control panel lights and cAN bus issues 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Still with engine running, if the radio is then switched on, all of the previously unlit switches on the radio panel light up. Sometimes when I switch off the engine, leaving the radio playing, and the head lights switched on, and open the drivers door, the radio automatically switches off and the "lights on" alert sounds, and on locking the car, both of the dashboard screens and all the switch lights go off.
  • KIA Picanto (2004 - ) - Running fault turning into a duff engine. 17 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Garage in question said they would service it under warranty (funny they were supposed to have done this on purchase) and flush the cooling system so the car was duly left with them. The running problem persisted after collection, the oil light started flickering and sometimes the engine struggled to start when hot so this time i asked my friend to check it out thoroughly and give me a "health report" Bad News is an understatement!

  • 2035 20 Sep 2023 (Forum)
    1) Start saving for an electric car 2) Trade in my 5 year old car  and buy a new or nearly new petrol car now and make it last 12 years. 3) Keep my five year old car and run it into the ground by 2035 -by which time I might not be around or at any rate probably not driving( 88!) Anything else to consider?
  • New Vauxhall Astra Electric 22 Jun 2023 (Forum)
(msn.com)   50% more than a petrol model, looks like a car from the front instead of those bland panels where the radiator went.   Can never see this E holding on to a decent second hand value and as for running costs how do you claw back the difference in the purchase price.
  • Completely new driver, need buying advice 2 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Hello,  I'm new to driving and need to buy a very affordable first car, but I don't know quite where to start. What is the minimum I should be spending for a run-around like a Polo or Golf? I see a lot of decent looking ones on ebay for £1,750-2,500 that I wouldn't mind driving. What kind of thing should I be getting as a first vehicle? Thanks.
  • Citroen C3 Picasso - Oil underneath- cause for concern? 13 Jul 2022 (Forum)
Found one (2010) that is generally nice, but I could see a little oil on the underside at front. Not that much, and there was no oil dripping onto the ground after the engine had been running a while. Links to pics: https://ibb.co/VjwYc36 https://ibb.co/bdmZLpK Is this any cause for concern or pretty normal for this age of car and not anything to worry about?!

  • Scenic 2002 - Ignition Barrel Failure 7 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Hi folks, The mechanism in the ignition barrel failed, causing the key to be stuck in the 'start' position. As a result the starter motor was engaged during running and has burned out, plus a fusible link somewhere has busted. The main question is this: is the failed part of the ignition in the mechanical portion or the electrical portion? I cant tell if it's the switch that springs the key back to position II or the part the key is inserted into.
  • Grand C-MAX 2015 2.0L diesel - Diesel issues 21 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Firstly the fuel guage seems unreliable, secondly when putting the nozzle into the tank there is a startling release of pressure, and thirdly there seems to be a noticeable smell of fuel while driving. It runs well enough as far as I can tell, but something seems amiss. Any ideas would be gratefully received, thanks.

  • Question about parking rulea 8 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hey y'all,   This is a pretty niche question I think. There's a car.park.that is.privately owned and run, however it has boarded up it's parking meters recently and there are signs saying parking is free there. If I parked my car there tomorrow, but they removed the boards from.the meters and started charging again, could I be charged for leaving my car there for a few days?
