  Does anyone have any experience of what is required to export a British registered car to mainland Europe (France)? I know that the V5 allows you to state that the vehicle has been exported and that seems a clear cut case as far as the DVLA are concerned. But what about on the Calais side of things? Getting a new French V5 and control technique (MOT) are another pot of fish.

  Is this true nationally and is anyone aware of a public explanation from the oil companies?. Off to France next week, interesting to see if hypermarket prices there are still at the same 4.90 litre as in the summer.

  Go to France if you want a buzz in your fast car. According to this week's "Canard Enchaine", motorway police allow a leeway of 30 k.p.h. over the maximum speed (in good conditions) of 130 k.p.h. , plus another 10 k.p.h. to allow for radar inaccuracies.

  from a letter to a British MEP: A British motorist driving in France was stopped on the A10 south of Poitiers, and told that he would be fined for possession of a radar detector, even though it was not switched on. If it had been, the fine would have been twice as great.

  Friend looking for £5k runabout to keep in France.  Buy left hooker here and pay ?lots to change number plate to a French one, or buy one from local garage there, where rumour has it they are more expensive?   Thinking of something like a Fiesta, Pug 206, Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i20.....

  hi. i have a 2018 18 plate diesel manual. drove to southof france no problem. on the return  leg got to the channel tunnel switched engine off at passport control.......30 secs later turned engine on..Car made a horrendous very loud knocking. sounded likethe  big end had gone. however after a restart all was well......cars done  3500 miles...

  Interesteing article in the Sunday Times about a reader who has a 2002 Passat TDI with 180K miles which has taken him on holiday to France involving a 2000 mile trip, with no problems. Real trade in value £100 but the car has £76 of fuel in the tank. The reader has absolutely no interest in getting £2000 for his beloved car against a £22k Focus.

  I have a new polo with large plastic lensed h'lights which I want to take to France on holiday. With my old cars I just stuck some black tape on the lights over markings on the glass lenses. With this car there are no markings on the lenses and my vw garage advises fitting lense protectors first and then sticking their expensive stickers to those to avoid damaging the plastic !

  Just returned from a cracking trip to France on my motorbike. The roads/drivers were no problem , just could not get my head around 'priorite a droite' (hope I have spelt this correctly!) though, what is the point of this rule? I only ask as I cannot see why users of minor roads should have 'priority' over users of some main roads - just seems downright dangerous to me!

  Just back from France and whilst waiting to board the ferry I noticed a German reg BMW with a missing front number plate. Went to speak to the driver and he was mortified, he had not noticed the loss and asked me if it was possible to get a replacement in England.

  I will be making several trips to France and Italy over the coming few months and am considering buying an annual car hire excess insurance policy. Internet quotes start at around £30 with most companies around the £40 mark. Does anyone have any particular recommendations?

  Highly illegal and results in a very stiff sentences and fine if caught. Quite correctly to. If you do the crime take the pain. But Have you seen what happens in France and Spain.   Hi all, taking my missus away to France this June for 2 week hols. The Saab 9/3 convertible is roomy, however Missus T takes enough clothes and makeup for a whole year. I only take a toothbrush and my fold up bike. Suggestions please for a bootrack for the fold up?

  Hi, I am going to france on Friday Morning. Need to be in dover at 7am, so I thought a nice overnight run should avoid all the usual congestion. Then someone said something about the A2 being closed overnight ? Is there something I need to worry about or can I assume that setting off round midnight will get me there with lots of time to waste.

  What I need is some advice on what's the best car for me under £25000 new or second-hand, running costs not an issue. I live in rural North Norfolk and do about 12000 miles a year - occasional trips to South of France and Portugal, but mostly the longest journey is 65 mile round-trip to Norwich. General idea is to find something that will see me out!!

  - Does anyone know if under-12 year olds can travel in the front passenger seat of the car, in Germany? (Even with a child seat fitted and seatbelt on?) I don't think it's allowed in France, and I'm not sure about the UK any more? I'm going on a long run up to Denmark next week and am thinking of driving overnight; my son will have more space up-front. Thanks!

  As a potential replacement for my Volvo S60, they look really good value at under £11k for a 54 plate 2.0 petrol. And living in France as I do, servicing must surely be cheap and easy to arrange? What's the catch?! Anyone out there own one or drive one? Equivalent Mondeos seem to be a bit pricier, before anyone recommends the Mondeo TDCI...!

  I am convinced that our Megane gives us about 4 to 5 mpg more when running on french diesel. In the UK I generally use BP or Texaco and average 50mpg. In France I fill up with whatever is convenient at the time at we seem to average 55mpg. Driving conditions are similar, length of journeys perhaps a bit longer. A friend reckons it may be because the french may put more sulphur in their diesel, is this true?
