  • Mazda 3 sport diesl 185ps (2009) - Temporary loss of power 8 May 2014 (Forum)
Suffered loss of power, on M6, on moving onto hard shoulder power suddenly returned, third time this has happened.  Is it anything to do with the DPF regenerating?

It is a very simple matter to fit a temperature warning system to show a driver that his/her DPF was actively regenerating, so best not to switch off the engine, but that would not go down too well with harassed mums delivering their little darlings to the prep-school. Is that really the best answer you could think of for them not fitting a warning system?
  • Honda CRV - diesel v petrol 15 Aug 2013 (Forum)
What's better? I've never had a diesel engine in 45 years driving. Concerned about DPF reports. Should I now go for diesel or stick to what one hears is a poorer performing petrol version? Graham Upson

  • In general - Diesels 12 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Hi all I'm looking in to getting a 2nd hand car , still trying to decide diesel petrol.i prefer the diesel more to do with torque than anything else, living in Norfolk with slow drivers I'd prefer the extra torque for the safer over take but still fear the horror stories that exist . The one thing I'd like to ask is I have just read an article on the rac website about dpf and it mentions how long they should last and cost to fix and the way I see it a dpf 100k miles, replace at a cost of 1k on some cars 100k mile means a new cam belt and around that mileage ish a new clutch all on the ish ,but if all this comes in or around the ish you could end up with a lot of expensive repairs , so to my mind a diesel with around 100k on average 10 years old could end up costing alot to keep running beyond the 100k mark.
  • Vauxhall Astra J 1.7CDi - New Engine Waranty Claim 24 Oct 2018 (Forum)
The dealer is asking me for the OK to take the engine apart. The mileage is 77,000 and during the year the dealer has replaced the DPF, the EGR valve and one injector. I have only paid for the cost of the DPF, £1,000. Should I give the OK to take the head off for inspect even though I may be left with and engine in bits and liable for the cost.
  • Hyundai Tucson - Diesel Particulate Filter in Hyundai Tucson 22 Jun 2018 (Forum)
However speaking to someone today who has a diesel tucson (his is automatic) and they do similar mileage to me with no issues or concerns regarding the DPF. They seem to think the Tucson DPF is designed in such a way that it doesn't require regular regeneration or cleaning and low mileage should be less of an issue. Is there any truth in this?
  • Petrol or Diesel? 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I would prefer a car with an automatic gearbox and preferably diesel for better economy (depreciation not much of an issue as i will be looking for a car about 2-3 years old) but most diesels now have a dpf as standard which can get clogged.   Most days i have a 22 mile round trip to work on a mix of roads (dual carriage way then 30mph through a village followed by 60mph single carriageway roads before a short spell in 30mph to the town centre and reverse on way home) and traffic jams not usually much of an issue but would this drive be enough to prevent a clogged dpf?
  • Ford Euro IV Diesel Info 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)

Available in selected European markets, the new DPF system is targeted to reduce particulate emissions by more than 98 percent to meet future emission standards.
  • Volvo S40 - Any good versatile diagnostic tool? 21 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Could anyone recommend a good diagnostic tool? Ideally one I could read into the dpf (not necessarily for forced regeneration) just blocked/partially blocked/air flow... I also have citroen DS4 diesel 18months old.

  • Mazda 6 2.0 Diesel 2006 123550 miles. - Mazda6 EM Light is on 19 Jun 2015 (Forum)
No leaks under the bonnet of air or fluid. Correct type Oil level fine and only 7000 miles old. The wife says the DPF light was flashing for her earlier as well as EM light, but i cant get it to replicate that for me. Side note, the DPF has been removed so i know its not that thats blocked. So my thoughts are: - - How do i find out the engine code without going into mazda and bending over at the counter?
