Volvo S40/V40 - Is Volvo S40 a Volvo ? 8 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Having just spent last year £1,000 on new DPF and last week £1,300 on new clutch, dmf and one wheel bearings I would prefer to keep the car a while. However, are there other possible expensive problems to avoid by changing cars ? Also is the S40 a complete Volvo - love the comfort ? -
Mondeo - Auto vs manual mondeo 30 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Now I am not bothered about the engines as such as I'm looking for the diesel version but I am very concerned about clutch/DMF failure and so I was wondering if an automatic Mondeo diesel would be the way to go as I've heard that they don't have a dual mass flywheel. Any advice would be welcome. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCI - slight judder. 22 Sep 2012 (Forum)
At the moment I don't do much mileage - am averaging 500 miles a month on the motorway only, driving once a week. Does my car have a DMF? I was led to believe it does not. It is a 61 plate if that helps. -
Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Clutch, dual mass fly wheel 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Does this indicate a problem with the dual mass flywheel (if fitted) and how would i be able to tell which type? - (DMF or solid version.) many thanks in anticipation. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Dual Mass Flywheel 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I've googled and seen a reference to a Ford design fault where they scrimped on the 03/04 model - can anyone expand on this as I would like to take it up with Ford as after only 47k miles I'm not happy with a £1000 quote. Would like to hear from anyone who has taken on Ford with DMF problems.... -
Vauxhall Meriva A MPV (2003 - ) - 04 1.7cdti Dual Mass Flywheels 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I couldn't find " list" of what cars have these contraptions fitted - perhaps we could have a standalone thread ? And if these cars do have a DMF, can a solid flywheel be fitted at replacement time ? -
Volkswagen Sharan - VW Sharan DSG oil/flywheel 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Assuming it's the same engine as in other cars? Also given its an auto will it have a DMF still or does it use a torque converter. Anyone know either way? Thanks -
Volkswagen Passat B6 - Slight grinding in 5th 26 May 2017 (Forum)
I've just bought an 06 passat 6 speed 2.0 tdi (140) and have receipts from previous owner of new gearbox and clutch/DMF 3 months ago. Problem is since I've had the car, there is slight grinding when changing to fifth gear. All other gears are fine. It drives lovely in every gear even fifth after the grind. This should not be happening when both gearbox and clutch have been replaced. -
Honda Accord - Clutch vibration and heavy engine noise 2 May 2016 (Forum)
It stops making that noise when I start driving, so only when idele of breaking to a stop. It come and goes , so does not happen all the time, could it be the DMF? On another issue, the engine is making a whinning humming noise on acceleration, its not the wheel bearing as if I take out of gear that noise goes. Its not loud but slightly annoying. -
SEAT Toledo - Ringing in DSG gearbox/transmission? 21 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Noise stops after change then does not come back when driving. Doesn't happen on down change. Seemingly DMF and clutches okay. Mainly happens in colder weather. Happened 3 years ago and it went away. Any ideas what it is? BTW, the car drives really well and the changes are fast and smooth... -
Biggest regression on manufacturers' model change? 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'm thinking along the lines of particular vehicle ranges rather than general technological developments such as DMFs, DPFs or catalytic converters. Examples mentioned in Avant's post include: BMC 1100 to Allegro (which should have been a British Golf with a hatchback) Alfasud to Alfa 33 Peugeot 205 to 206 and 306 to 307 Saab 900 (pre-GM) to 9-3 -
Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 04 1.5dci Clutch Slip? 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Could it be a poorly adjusted clutch (e.g. it's not been released fully when the foot is off the pedal)? . Does this car have a DMF and is this an early sign of it's impending failure? Car is only 3.5 years old and with just under 30k on the clock. -

Volkswagen Golf IV - Possible gearbox damage due to garage? 30 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Now the car has done 104000 miles and the garage did tell me that at this mileage & in particular with the 6 speed gearbox that it is common to need gearbox replacement. But for this to happen literally as soon as they had such trouble with the clutch & dmf is a bit close for comfort! Any advice you can offer me would be very very much appreciated. Thanks!!! -

Mondeo mk3 estate or Landcruiser Colorado? 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've been running a '03 mk3 Mondeo TDCI (130) Estate in Ghia X spec for the last 20 months - I brought it at 107k, the car has now done almost 128k and just before Christmas the DMF/Clutch went and the DMF, clutch and slave cylinder were all replaced. The 3rd gear syncro also seems worn and it crunches every now and then when selecting 3rd gear. Also the starter may need to be replaced as it still "clicks" occasionally rather than turn over - this is usually to do with swarf from the DMF clogging the starter and it needs to be cleaned or replaced to resolve. -
