Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1999 1.2 (petrol) running very rough 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I thought the battery in FiL's Corsa (1999) had died when no electrics worked. Used jump leads to start it from my Mazda 323TD and it fired up first time.... -

Diesel load v additives 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Having had the use of diesel cars, trucks, farm tractors, and marine engines, in my experience the operators / engineers invariably say that the engines run smoother after a full load run when they have been lightly loaded for a period. Does this clear out of soot have a similar effect as a fuel additive. I make a point of accelerating up a steep hill or motorway slip road if I have been pottering around for a few days and have produced some spectacular smoke, my current car (2.0 tdci) doesnt smoke given this treatment, modern technology? -
Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - How to reset the immobiliser without key fob 15 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi All, I recently bought a 1994 Pug 205 1.8 diesel Mardi Gras which only came with one key and no remote key fob. Unfortunately I managed to run the battery flat today and an immobiliser has kicked in and I cannot start the car (I did not know it even had an immobiliser!) Is there anyway to easily bypass the system and get the car running again or will I have to go to the main dealer which I guess will be very expensive? -

(offensive?) speeding advert.. 18 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Why on earth are they re-running that tv & radio ad, persuding us it's OK, to run into a child at 30mph? Guess you know the one I mean .... childs voice...hit me at 40 & I'll probably die.. hit me at 30, maybe I'll live... Oh that's all right then, I won't bother to avoid you, then. -
Poor fuel economy 1.6 primera 1 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My other half's freshly bought 1.6 petrol primera seems to be doing around 10-15 mpg! Is there any obvious reason for this? The car seems to be running ok, feels a little sluggish. No warning lights, no other signs of rich running. It has a daily work journey of 20 minutes each way. At the moment it is guzzling more fuel than my skyline so there is something clearly wrong with it. -
Odd Water Loss - Renault Laguna 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My 1995 Laguna has a curious water loss problem, every couple of weeks (sometimes longer) it will go from the maximum mark to the minimum in a couple of days, yet at other times it will stay at the max mark for two weeks or more. I can find no visable leakage, it seems to be running ok, apart from a bit of rough running that I think is down to it needing new dist. cap and rotor arm (which me being lazy I have a new set in the boot, just need to get round to fitting them) Any ides on the water problem???? -
Re: Help - Wrong fuel!! 14 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I put £4 worth of unleaded into my boyfriend's diesel Golf TDI S reg today. Petrol attendant told me it would 'probably' be ok to top it up with diesel and let it run for a few minutes to burn off. It ended up with £40 diesel to £4 petrol and has run fine for a 200 mile return trip. What problems can I expect to happen with this low amount of petrol in the car. (I have read scary things about swarf in the system and cost of replacing whole fuel system etc) - i.e. do I need to confess?! -
pug 405td valve stem seals 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Pug 405td 168000mls 1997, 99% sure my valve stem seals need replacing, every now and then i get blue smoke on start up and car sounds like its running on 3 cyl for about 5-10sec, when the car is running no problems the thing flies for a diesel anyway, recently change glow pugs helped slightly but no fix, anyway what i was going to ask has anyone changed the seals without removing cylinder head? -
mkII golf stalls after 5 mins: carb? 27 Feb 2005 (Forum)
When started cold, my mkII driver behaves fine. Its only when it has been running a couple of minutes that the revs gradually drop and it stalls. This means I have to keep on the throttle to avoid stalling. once warm , the engine runs sweetly. I'm guessing it makes the mixture lean too early - could this be a faulty thermo control. -
peugeot 106 diesel leak 17 Jan 2005 (Forum)
When priming diesel leaks quite fast out of the outlet above the fuel filter. When the engine is running air bubbles can be seen in the clear pipe running from the filter to the pump. See picture at: http://www.broxsolutions.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/filter.jpg What is causing the leak, and is there anything I can do to fix it? -
No heating in rover 216 2 Jan 2005 (Forum)
hi, ive got a problem with my heater in my 216 sli (n reg) had the car about a month now and it was running perfectly, but just over a week ago it went on its 1st motorway trip, after about an hour i noticed i couldn't get any heat from the blowers, i got off the motorway for 30 mins then it started working again, however over the last week, i very rarely get heat out of the car, the temperature guage is showing normal and the car runs fine, is it just a new thermostat needed or could it be more serious? -
Saxo cold start problem 31 May 2004 (Forum)
My wife's Saxo diesel (68,000) has developed a bit of a problem when starting from cold. It blows white smoke from the exhaust and runs rough for about a minute, then settles down and runs perfectly. No problem on warm starts, just first thing in the morning. The glow plug light goes out as normal and the plugs were renewed at about 50k. -
carina fast idling 1 Apr 2004 (Forum)
just bought a carina e 1.8 runs great but the tickover is to high it is about 1500rpm when cold and between 1000 to 1200 rpm when warm. the thottle doesnt seem to be sticking it is closing ok onto the stop. the temp gauge seems to vary a bit it seems to be running cool. some times it will go upto almost halfway then it drops to about a quarter the way up the gauge and seems to stay there. would the high idling cause a mot fail many thanks in advance ps does any one know how to take the radio out. and is it coded it is a standard toyota rad cass. the year is 1996 -
Subaru Impreza Import remapping 24 Jan 2004 (Forum)
A friend of mine has bought himself a 96 Import impreza STI. These in japan, run on RON 100 unleaded fuel, the nearest we have is RON 97 unleaded. He has been advised against octane boosters as these in time will damage the cat and don't really do alot. So to run this car to its potential it should have its ECU remapped or face a melt down pushing to a std. 280bhp. -
306 Heater not getting HOT 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
This has not suddenly happend, it has been like this since I brought the car 3 years ago. never really bothered me, I just put it down to the cool running temp of the car but I no longer think thats the answer and the wife is driving it now so I'm getting stress! The car runs at 80-82°C on the dash. MM - you wealth of knowledge would be appreciated. -
feisty fiesta 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My student daughter runs a 1.1 pop plus to get to college etc. Its the H.C.S.engine weber carb model; and following a fuel leak which was causing uneven running, a problem still persists only at low revs. All the service items have been done and a local ford dealer has set up the mixture [replacing the screw] The breathing function is O.K and they are unable or unwilling to find a cure.
